Week 1 of the 52 small changes challenge - all welcome

OddSocksHighHeels · 27/12/2015 01:42

So the aim is to make one small change a week over a year to keep it manageable based on a book called 52 Small Changes. I'll post each week with the new challenge and people can adapt to however it suits them.

Week 1 starting tomorrow (or today I guess as it's now after midnight) is to drink more water.

The book advises this method for working out how much you should drink: take your body weight in pounds and divide by two, that number is the amount of water you should drink in ounces eg you weigh 150lb so you should drink 75oz water per day. I can't quite follow this so I'm sticking with 1.5 litres a day as an aim.

Feel free to add fruit or veg or whatever if you don't like the taste of water by itself. I currently have a jug that I've added some raspberries and mint to waiting for me to drink tomorrow.

I will check in at the end of each day to update on my progress and keep myself accountable. I hope you all find it helpful too!

Here's to a healthier year Wine

Bum, I was on the other thread and thought we were starting on 1 Jan. Better get a jug out ....

Pointlessfan · 28/12/2015 19:19

I'm finding it easier to drink hot water for some reason. I actually chose that instead of coffee earlier.
Does orange squash count?

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 28/12/2015 19:29

Haven't managed any water at all today! Still getting through Christmas drinks Blush

tillytown · 28/12/2015 19:34

I'm in, but starting tomorrow, I'm comfy and can't be bothered going to the kitchen right now Smile

PeppaPigStinks · 28/12/2015 19:37

Oooh I need an overhaul. Can I join in? Il start tomorrow though, having been driver for the last few days there is a few g and t's waiting for me :-)

ICJump · 28/12/2015 20:15

Just down loaded an app. Also did the calculations. I need to drink close to 4 litres a day. Which sounds heaps but I take some medication which gives me dry mouth so I drink a fair bit.

comeagainforbigfudge · 28/12/2015 20:34

Ive done quite well. At least 1.5l of water and only 2 glasses of fizzy juice so far 😃

Whats the app you are using ICJump?

Sirona · 28/12/2015 20:56

Well there's my 1.8L done for today. Think the one I downloaded was Hydro Coach on the google play store comeagain. Took a bit of fiddling around to change the units and the amount I wanted to drink.

MajesticWhine · 28/12/2015 21:44

I've done ok today, certainly drunk more water than usual and some herbal tea. Haven't really measured but maybe 1.25l. I'm still in holiday drinking mode so have also had a gin and tonic and a couple of glasses of wine.

FiveShelties · 28/12/2015 22:01

6 Glasses for me today - now for a late glass of wine (or two).

Buttercup27 · 28/12/2015 22:10

Yay! Just made my target of 2l, just before going to bed. Is anyone else finding the more they drink the thirstier they are? It's ready odd, as itscthe first time in ages I've actually felt thirsty, but normally I would drink not even quarter of what I have today!

crappyday · 28/12/2015 22:16

Ooh sounds good!
I'll give this a try. I have to drink 1.9l which seems a lot- and not possible this late but will start tomorrow.

minnymoobear · 28/12/2015 22:43

Heya another joiner-in please!
Will be doing 8 glasses/2l from tomorrow
Back at work on 4th so got a week to get cracking!! :)

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 28/12/2015 22:46

Just managed my 2 litres! I can feel my stomach swishing about a bit though Confused

DrDiva · 28/12/2015 23:08

Well that was crap. Hmm

Perhaps I should restart tomorrow with all the starters then.

butteredbarmbrack · 28/12/2015 23:24

Still on the Christmas wine drinking so I didn't manage my 1.8 litres today. But did find I had an extra glass or two of water here and there thanks to remembering the challenge which might otherwise have just been more wine, so that can't be bad, eh?

RattieOfCatan · 28/12/2015 23:31

vvviola That drives me mad! The cleaner where I work does that. I leave the glass in exactly the same place yet every single time she goes into the kitchen it ends up in the dishwasher Hmm I work in a household and there are often only me, her and my boss in so it's not like it needs tidying away!

I've downloaded Hydro, I didn't like hydrocoach, didn't suit me

I've also managed three litres of water, which I'm impressed with!

BondJayneBond · 28/12/2015 23:39

3 glasses of water today. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but it's 3 glasses more than yesterday Smile

springscoming · 28/12/2015 23:53

At least 2l today and a big mug of herbal tea. I can't cut down on the coffee though. I'm going to have to make up a different challenge if there's a week where we have to do that.

Lionxmas1 · 29/12/2015 00:13

I'm in Grin

Curiouserandcuriouser30 · 29/12/2015 00:15

Had my 1.6L but then also several cocktails, so will drink some more water before bed in an attempt to avoid a hangover.

MacTaylorsSecretWife · 29/12/2015 00:22

Am I too late to join in and start tomorrow?

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 29/12/2015 01:07

Never too late! :)

I did actually drink some water this evening. Normally I wouldn't have bothered (which is ridiculous, I do actually really like water, I'm just lazy about it and will always choose something unhealthier if it's available - which it is, being Christmas!) so I'm grateful for the thread :)

primitivemom · 29/12/2015 01:16

I'm in from tomorrow ladies if that's ok Smile
