Week 1 of the 52 small changes challenge - all welcome

OddSocksHighHeels · 27/12/2015 01:42

So the aim is to make one small change a week over a year to keep it manageable based on a book called 52 Small Changes. I'll post each week with the new challenge and people can adapt to however it suits them.

Week 1 starting tomorrow (or today I guess as it's now after midnight) is to drink more water.

The book advises this method for working out how much you should drink: take your body weight in pounds and divide by two, that number is the amount of water you should drink in ounces eg you weigh 150lb so you should drink 75oz water per day. I can't quite follow this so I'm sticking with 1.5 litres a day as an aim.

Feel free to add fruit or veg or whatever if you don't like the taste of water by itself. I currently have a jug that I've added some raspberries and mint to waiting for me to drink tomorrow.

I will check in at the end of each day to update on my progress and keep myself accountable. I hope you all find it helpful too!

Here's to a healthier year Wine

8 glasses today - and no alcohol -- a double achievement.

FiveShelties · 01/01/2016 21:27

I crossed 'and no alcohol' out, by accident - honestly.

KanyesVest · 01/01/2016 23:14

I've managed about 2.5l today and 3 glasses of mulled wine.

Boy, I put medicines in the crockery cupboard so I see them every time I eat or drink!

OddSocksHighHeels · 01/01/2016 23:16

I've only done 750ml today. Very bad but I fell asleep in the middle of the day for 6 hours Blush so I'll probably still manage to fit it all in through the day.

I'd like to join you all, hot water with lemon is good for you, I presume that counts?

Ledkr · 01/01/2016 23:19

6 hours?? Are you I'll?

OddSocksHighHeels · 01/01/2016 23:22

Hot water with lemon is good!

I'm not sure ledkr I don't normally manage more than 4 hours in a night and never sleep during the day. I feel ok otherwise so hoping I'm not coming down with anything.

Allgunsblazing · 02/01/2016 06:49

Almost a pint downed this am with my coffee :)

R00tat00tt00t · 02/01/2016 07:14

Hello! Just found this thread and would love to join in. I'm not too late am I? Are we still on week 1 - drink more water? (Don't have time to RTWT this am.)

chutneypig · 02/01/2016 07:28

I'm with Allgunsblazing finding a glass while the kettle is boiling is good. It's not like I'm ever going to forget my morning coffee Grin

Allgunsblazing · 02/01/2016 07:37

R00, just go get some water and you're in!!! ;)
You don't have to stop drinking because the week has finished, I fully intend to continue grabbing a pint of water with my coffee for the foreseable.

Allgunsblazing · 02/01/2016 07:38

But yes, we're still on week one, sorry.

R00tat00tt00t · 02/01/2016 07:55

Thanks All, just off to get started now....

Ememem84 · 02/01/2016 08:03

Probably drank 2 litres yesterday. No booze.

Finding that since starting I've been needing to pee more. Sigh.

FestiveFrumper · 02/01/2016 08:08

I'm in Smile

islander99 · 02/01/2016 08:16

I'd like to join too. Great idea.

rainbowstardrops · 02/01/2016 08:18

Well I'm very, very late to the party as ever but I'd definitely like to join up!

I drink hardly anything except wine so I definitely need this.

I like your thinking Odd that you aren't allowed to start on the wine until you've drunk all your water. That could definitely work Grin

I can't be arsed to work out how much a beached whale should drink, so I think I'll aim for 1.5l to start with. That's 1.5l more than usual!

Here goes!

mummeeee · 02/01/2016 08:19

Sounds good Smile

MrFMercury · 02/01/2016 08:22

Managed 7 pints again yesterday. I've ordered a 800ml infusion bottle though because I don't know if downing a pint every couple of hours is as good as taking more regular sips. Plus a bottle is something I'll take with me when real life resumes on Monday :)

quirkychick · 02/01/2016 08:26

Well, I am logging the water on my new Fitbit (Christmas present) and although I'm usually pretty good, I only got a star for the right amount yesterday. So, maybe not as good as I thought.

I also hit my 8hr target for sleep by going to bed at 10pm. Obviously need to keep it up. Feeling much better for it.

AndersArms · 02/01/2016 08:41

I'm in. Really like the idea of small manageable changes with cumulative effect.

AtSea1979 · 02/01/2016 10:25

I only managed 750ml of water yesterday. But I did have tea, coffee, d.coke and shloer. I'm going to try to make it 1l today but I've only just woke up Shock so lost a couple of hours of drinking time there!
I'm not looking at the next target as want to focus on doing this week by week and not racing ahead and trying to do it all at once otherwise it'll just turn in to another fad that doesn't last

AtSea1979 · 02/01/2016 10:28

quirkychick I've just started using a fitbit. The real eye opener for me is how far off the step target I am.
Also I logged too much water yesterday as its first time I used it but couldn't find anywhere to delete it again. I was still way off getting a star though

AtSea1979 · 02/01/2016 10:30

rainbowstardrops I worked it out at about a glass of water (210ml) per stone.
