Week 1 of the 52 small changes challenge - all welcome

OddSocksHighHeels · 27/12/2015 01:42

So the aim is to make one small change a week over a year to keep it manageable based on a book called 52 Small Changes. I'll post each week with the new challenge and people can adapt to however it suits them.

Week 1 starting tomorrow (or today I guess as it's now after midnight) is to drink more water.

The book advises this method for working out how much you should drink: take your body weight in pounds and divide by two, that number is the amount of water you should drink in ounces eg you weigh 150lb so you should drink 75oz water per day. I can't quite follow this so I'm sticking with 1.5 litres a day as an aim.

Feel free to add fruit or veg or whatever if you don't like the taste of water by itself. I currently have a jug that I've added some raspberries and mint to waiting for me to drink tomorrow.

I will check in at the end of each day to update on my progress and keep myself accountable. I hope you all find it helpful too!

Here's to a healthier year Wine

I would like to join too. According to the formula I have to drink about 1.6L a day, which sounds about right because I also have a terrible tea/coffee habit and I don't want to be constantly weeing

So I will aim to drink my first half litre before lunch, and another litre in the afternoon/evening, with one glass at dinner to get to 1.6.

Blush my diet coke addiction is bad too.

On the drinking water front, does tea count towards this or is it specifically just plain water?

RattieOfCatan · 28/12/2015 09:17

I have downloaded an app to help me log my intake of water, are you all including other drinks or just water? I've had 250ml of water and half a cup of tea, not sure whether to log the tea :/

SparklesandBangs · 28/12/2015 09:22

Day 1 for me - 1.5l bottle ready but I'm having a mug of tea first, which I'm not counting as its real tea with milk.

pizzaeatingmonkey · 28/12/2015 09:27

Achieved my 3 pints quite easily and only needed to get up once in the night!! DP doesn't seem to want to join in..time will tell!

DearPrudence · 28/12/2015 09:28

I'm in. Starting today.

Sirona · 28/12/2015 09:48

Nearly 1L in already. Helps I've been awake since 4.30am and had wine last night so woke up feeling dehydrated and guzzled a bottle of water straight away.

Also downloaded an app which worked me out as 2L since I work out 5 times a week. Will aim for 1.8 though for the time being. I drink water with those electrolyte tablets in them sometimes when exercising so not sure if I'm meant to count them or not? Think I will as it's not every time.

Ememem84 · 28/12/2015 09:53

Probably about a litre already.

Allgunsblazing · 28/12/2015 10:01

Had 2 pints yesterday.
I aum for the same today :)

OddSocksHighHeels · 28/12/2015 10:36

Everybody's off to a good start today it seems Smile

I'm only on my first glass.

I haven't even looked at my water bottle yet this morning! Off to get it now... Blush

Imnotaslimjim · 28/12/2015 11:27

I managed 2 litres even after such a late start yesterday so hopefully I can do 3l today! Good luck ladies

Helgathehairy · 28/12/2015 11:30

It's not going to be a good day for water. I'm going to see Star Wars and I don't want to be running out to pee during it. So I've had a glass but that's it till late afternoon.

Nikkinoo77 · 28/12/2015 12:06

I've only done one glass also. Everyone up late today.

MajesticWhine · 28/12/2015 13:13

I'm also wondering what counts and what doesn't.

OddSocksHighHeels · 28/12/2015 13:31

From the book - plain water is preferred but herbal teas or soda water can count but not drinks with caffeine, sugar or sweeteners. You can add things to the water though if you prefer the taste (fruit, veg, lemon juice, etc).

I swear that my next drink (after this lager) will be a water

I know it seems like i am a lush but its our belated boxing day (and then new eve, day and ds birthday)

DrDiva · 28/12/2015 14:40

Second day not nearly so good here. DS decided to have a fever in the night and was awake for 3.5 hours. Has been clinging on for dear life this morning and I can't do anything Hmm
Hopefully he will improve this afternoon and I can glug some more.

Howlongtillbedtime · 28/12/2015 17:41

Erm I am drinking vodka ! I am fat and need to drink 2.5 litres :(

RufusTheReindeer · 28/12/2015 17:50

Shit...my next drink was a lynchberg lemonade

Drinking wter now

OnePlanOnHouzz · 28/12/2015 18:05

Great idea ! Marking my place ! Wink

CishAndFips · 28/12/2015 18:06

Doing much better today managed a liter so another 500ml before bedtime.

KanyesVest · 28/12/2015 18:17

I managed about a litre before we left the in laws today. They are in a hard water area, so I'm home to my own water and a cucumber in the fridge for flavour. I should get another litre down me before bed time.

DottyBee · 28/12/2015 18:32

Just came across this in active. I am in, starting tomorrow.

vvviola · 28/12/2015 18:55

I have a jug of water and a glass out in the kitchen to remind me to drink. DH keeps being "helpful"and keeps putting the glass in the dishwasher Angry

So I have absolutely no idea how much I have managed to drink...
