I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

Hi Zippy.
There is a long running thread called 'Dependant Drinkers Club' (or similar) that you maY WANT TO LOOK AT.sEEMS TO HAVE a lot of useful advice and encouraging words.

(I won't be drinking today either.Even the three glasses I had last night with dinner have made me feel vile.)

zippy539 · 03/09/2006 09:02

Pinkchampagne · 03/09/2006 09:35

I would like to join you too! I have had one two many heavy sessions with friends over the last week & have a thick head after last night! I really need to cut down & will not be drinking tonight.

hermykne · 03/09/2006 09:35

zippy i stopped having a daily glass of wine about 3 weeks ago and god i felt so much the better for it.
had 3 glasses last nigth as the weekend treat and theres still some in theb ottle but i have no desire to drink it today, i'll freeze it for cooking!!
my tastebuds came back too, a cheapish one tastes crap. so save it up for a half decent one.

zippy539 · 03/09/2006 09:41

Brilliant. It's nice to have some company

Dinny - thanks so much for starting that thread last night. It's really given me the spur I needed.

excellent - me too, Zippy.

I am in a FOUl mood today though - is that alcohol withdrawl (haven't drunk since got v pissed on friday night). If it is, when will I feel better - does alcohol stay in your system for ages?

feel really positive about this!

zippy539 · 03/09/2006 13:24

Mmmm - could be, dinny. Must admit that on previous occasions when I've tried to kick the habit I have been a bit of a nightmare, Unfortunately my foulness was usually enough to drive me back to the booze pretty quickly so can't say how long it might last. However, this time I intend to fully embrace my inner foulness and ride the storm - surely we'll be feeling fantastic in a day or two? (Or failing that, at least very smug ).

how you doing, Zippy? just having a hot choc - v nice. am still headachey and in bad-ish mood though, can't decide if it's from alcohol withdrawl or just looking after children!

zippy539 · 04/09/2006 00:49

Hi Dinny. Finally off to bed and feeling very chuffed with myself for not drinking despite having to stay up until this ungodly hour to meet a work deadline. I was quite tempted around tea time but the thought of this thread kept me on the straight and narrow and the moment passed.

Sorry about your headache/mood - if I'm the same tomorrow then we'll know it's a withdrawal symptom. Actually - that won't work will it, cause mine could easily be child related too.

Same again tomorrow?

well done, Zippy. I am feeling quite a bit better this am, and glad for a fresh(ish) mornign feel even though ds up twice in night.

yep, same again today D x

zippy539 · 04/09/2006 09:09

Glad you're feeling better, dinny.

Weirdly enough, my ds was up twice in the night as well and he never does that. I'm knackered but feeling a whole lot better than I would have done if I'd hit the bottle last night.

Right. I'm not drinking today.

OMG without a hangover I am superwoman!!!

I've done the school run, tidied the house, sent my work emails, got dh an appointment at the dentists and organised (okay...booked..) ds's birthday party. And it's only quarter past ten. Off to the park with dd now.

I think I'm on some smugness fuelled high.

zippy539 · 05/09/2006 09:30

Thanks for checking in everyone. It's incredibly helpful having company for this. I've been lurking about on the dependendent drinkers thread as well but everything so hectic here I haven't had time to post. Hopefully tonight. In the meantime I hope no one minds if I just carry on this little thread cause cause just knowing I have to post here is really keeping me on the straight and narrow.

Okay. I'm not drinking today. Anyone else?
