Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

well done to you two! Zippy, I'm not drinking tonight either. MIL staying and cooking a nice meal but have bought lots of Pellegrino to have insteads as I love it (never normally buy it on grounds it's extravagant - instead buy Tesco value - but if no drinking wine then think can afford it, esp as so much better for me!)

Have a nice evening - I'm not going to drink until next Friday (when I have a big night out planned). Zippy, you've done SO well

dinny · 09/09/2006 14:12

Zippy, have CAT'd you my MSN if you fancy chatting ay tme. D x

heavenis · 09/09/2006 19:24

I'm please that I didn't drink. Well done for not drinking too.
Coffee again tonight will dispatch dh to make one shortly.

zippy539 · 10/09/2006 08:31

Dinny - the world of 'cating' and 'MSN' is a bit of a mystery to me, . I actually asked dh was MSN was the other night and he tried to make up some authoratitive rubbish before admitting he didn't have a clue either! Hope last night was lovely - I laughed at your Pelligrino, I could drink bottles of that stuff. It's so salty and lovely. Mmmmmmm.

Well done heavenis - the coffee really does seem to knock cravings on the head, doesn't it?

Well that's a week without a drink - I can't believe it. I feel so much better than I did this time last week. The weird thing is that I thought I was drinking as a way of relaxing but all week I have felt hugely LESS stressed than usual. Mmmm.Interesting...

Anyway - thanks so much for your support and company everyone. There is NO WAY I could have done this without you.

Not sure what to do now. I'm finding the thought of having a drink quite scary cause I'm worried I'll just be back to square one again. I think I'll keep going for a bit longer on a daily basis and only drink whenI go out. But my social calender is totally blank atm so if no one minds I'll just keep going. (I am going to come over to the dependent drinkers thread - honest. I just want to try and get a grip myself first, and also finish reading the whole thread plus original first, I'm a bit anal like that )

Anyway. I'm not going to drink today. Anyone else want to join me?

zippy have you got a hotmail account? if you have, you just need to download MSN Messenger (free) and your email address is your MSN address... try it....

wow, a week, that is so good. I ashamed to say that I did drink last night and far too much (3/4 bottle of red) so I now have a bit of a hangover. but it was a special meal and I am not going to drink this week, honest!

Heavenis, how did you get on last night?

keep this thread going, Zippy, it's v helpful! off out for day now, byeeee x

alexa1 · 10/09/2006 18:31

Zippy - I want to read the dependent drinkers thread too, but as soon as I start I get called away or kids want something, so I haven't actually read it all.

Good that u and dinny are doing so well. I didn't drink a drop last night but I'm ashamed to say my DH Just poured a lovely glass of red with our fish supper.

Oh well, tomorrow I won't be drinking, or tues or wed or thurs or......mmmm maybe friday.

zippy539 · 11/09/2006 12:34

Sorry, belated check in this morning cause I slept in and have been chasing my tail ever since.

Something weird has happened. Yesterday, I didn't crave a drink once and today, I walked down the wine aisle in M&S and it didn't even occur to me to buy a bottle. These events are so extraordinary that I fully expect them to be reported on the news tonight.

So, I'm not drinking today. Anyone else?

Still no drinking for me either. I lost 7lb this week (I have lots to lose) That has given me a boost to carry on healthy eating and no drinking.

Well done Zippy for not buying wine. It's strange isn't that for so long you'vr want wine and quickly you realise that you don't need it. I used to worry if I only had one bottle in.

zippy539 · 11/09/2006 13:17

Wow heavenis - 7lbs! That's brilliant - well done. You must feel fab.

Hi dinny and zippy, i am inspired too to join you (have got into bad habit of at least two glasses (lge!) of wine each night to unwind after get kids to bed and fed up waking up feeling guilty and making promises will stop which never keep, so here goes as of tonight...will try the coffee thing or maybe go to bed same time as kids sad or what!!

heavenis · 11/09/2006 13:41

Since not having a drink in the evenings I find I'm tired much earlier than I used to be. But I feel alot better in a morning and don't have a horrible taste in my mouth.

Saz73 · 11/09/2006 13:43

This is a fantasic thread. I'm like you moomooland, at the end (all kids gone home (CM) and DD & DS in bed)of the day like a drink to unwind. I've been wanting to try and break this habit and after reading this I'm going to join you guys by not having a drink tonight. I desperatley been wanting to loose weight as well so here goes !

dinny · 11/09/2006 14:28

naswm · 11/09/2006 20:33

dinny pleased you are doing ok. How is your lo doing at school. (remembering you had one starting school too!) I thought it would be an 'excuse' for me to drink (ie the stress etc) but it has really been ok. Hope it's been the same for you!

dinny · 11/09/2006 20:54

Naswm, thanks. dd doing OK - so far! I still feel really unsettled though! not drinking though (well, did over weekend a bit but not too much). how are you finding it?

yay, glad the cravings gone, Zippy

moomooland · 11/09/2006 23:07

hooray got through the evening (albeit with the help of some choc and crisps), how did you get on during first night saz?

Saz73 · 12/09/2006 07:35

First night was great, got the munchies and ended up eating (not good for the diet). Feel very wide awake this morning and I was surprised that I didn't wake up in the night either. It was hard when DH came in from first day at new job and had a beer, but he thought it was great me not having a drink. Found I went to bed earlier aswell.

Zippy well done for starting this thread.

Looking for forward to doing all over again.

dinny · 12/09/2006 08:24

feeling v awake this morning - had loads of mad dreams! dh had two glasses of wine but I didn't even feel like joining him, just had Badoit instead (mmmm), watched Britain's Next Top Model then had an early night. yoga tonight - hurrah (and then Lost).

Berrie · 12/09/2006 08:47

Welcome Berrie - that was the stage I'd got to. I just wasn't enjoying it any more - just pure habit.
