I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

Never heard of wine stoppers. How do they work exactly?

dinny · 06/09/2006 20:12

Just instead of corks, Alexa...to keep it drinkable if you don't finish the bottle...

Zippy, well done. Yes, good idea to think one day at a time else we'll freak! Though I do think I will drink on Friday (it's ds's birthdy tomorrow and having party on Friday). Will probbaly drink what I want but try and not go mad (ie. avoid hangover) and make sure that I don't drink anything the next day, to give body chance to recover!

zippy539 · 06/09/2006 21:25

Sorry dinny - the headache comment earlier was supposed to be for you, obviously. I'm not sure I can actually function without alcohol.

its 4.57 here - just been sitting on front porch with the children and seen my neighbour come home with wine, AGGHHHH!

dinny · 06/09/2006 22:25

well, neighbour popped in to give us a bottle of red for cat siting and then dh bought home 2 bottles of white he'd been given at work. Nearly wavered when he asked if he wanted a glass but I held firm. Amazingly!

MrsApronstrings · 06/09/2006 22:35

already know I'm caving if dh brings any home!

zippy539 · 06/09/2006 22:38

dinny - your resolve is very impressive. For God's sake don't put the white in the fridge!

Mrs Apronstrings - hold firm. Think of your neighbours liver... Think smug thoughts... Think, this too will pass.....

dinny · 06/09/2006 22:40

are you doing this every day, Zippy, or drinking at weekends? can't remember...

zippy539 · 06/09/2006 22:40

Gawd. This is torture. Off to bed. Tomorrow is another day.

OP posts:
zippy539 · 06/09/2006 22:42

dinny - haven't quite decided yet. I think I'm going to try to cut out drinking in the house and only drink when I go out, at least until I manage to break the nightly habit... Trouble is I never flippin' go out these days.

OP posts:
zippy539 · 06/09/2006 22:44

Right. Off to bed now before I start drinking herbal tinctures in desperation...

dinny · 06/09/2006 22:49

bye, am off now too (with hot choc), how wild

yes, I thought same except we have people over quite a bit. so think will just drink in company of people other than just dh, lol.

MrsFio · 07/09/2006 07:39

oh dear I had a few lagers last night
I was literally in flatpack hell, please forgive me

at least it was a sensible amount though and I feel fine today

zippy539 · 07/09/2006 09:02

Fio - should have said in earlier post that I don't intend to drink in the house unless in the presence of a flat pack.

Well done dinny - must get some hot chocolate in myself.

Right. Here I go again. Apologies for the repitition. I'm not going to drink today. Anyone else?

OP posts:
dinny · 07/09/2006 09:23

well done for just having a couple, MrsFio

Zippy - me neither (I've got an easy one today though, am working a late shift so it won't even arise)

felt so great when I woke up this morning - tired but as if I am catching up on lots of quality sleep - not sure I'll drink tomorrow either, will see.

just thinking about how I have abused my body over the years, eating virtually nothing to stay thin, smoking, drinking loads of caffeine, staying up all night, taking recreational drugs and of course drinking alcohol (hasten to add my party lifestyle was before having the dcs!) but really feel I need to nuture it a bit now - has received a lot of punishment for the last 15 years so now is payback time, lots of sleep, water, exercise, lots of nutritious food and no starving self!

will try and get online at work later to see how you're doingx

alexa1 · 07/09/2006 12:53

I'm not going to drink tonight either, but tomorrow is a different story. Roll on Friday...

alexa1 · 07/09/2006 18:34

Oh no. I've cracked open a bottle of red. Feeling stressed tonight.

How u doing zippy & dinny, better than me I bet. More willpower.

dinny · 07/09/2006 21:47

don't beat yourself up, Alexa. what was the trigger then?

I haven't drunk but it's not willpower, am at work for ages still [yawn]

how you doing, Zippy?

zippy539 · 08/09/2006 08:05

Hi Dinny and Alexa.

Managed another night. Can't believe how fantastic I feel. And I've lost 3lbs .
Dinny - don't feel bad. Will power doesn't come into it for me cause I just don't have any drink in the house.

Okay, so it's Friday and I get the feeling I'm going to be on my own tonight but here goes anyway.

I'm not going to drink today. Anyone else?

Well before we went on hoilday we were drinking most nights and on holiday too. Now were back I'm heathy eating and haven't had a drink since sunday. I'm pleased with myself.
When we've cut back before we've had a drink on a weekend but I've decided on no drink at all. Do feel loads better.

zippy539 · 08/09/2006 09:13

Brilliant heavenis - nice to know I won't be alone .

OP posts:
heavenis · 08/09/2006 09:26

It'll be tea or coffee for us tonight, let me know it you want a cuppa and I'll stick the kettle on
The next time I'll have a drink will be FIL birthday in October and I won't be building up to it by starting drinking in the weeks before. I am determined to stick to this.

dinny · 08/09/2006 19:58

hello well, ds has had his birthday party and have had 3 pimms and think I wil have some wine tonight with dunner. but that will it till next friday.

well done, Zippy and Heavenis - think how fab you'll feel tomorrow!

heavenis · 08/09/2006 21:06

Nearly cracked earlier wanted junk food and wine. Dh is now doing cheese on toast and making coffee yum yum.

zippy539 · 09/09/2006 10:54

Wel, another night off the sauce. I'm fine if I can just get through 4pm-5pm without cracking open a bottle, then the urge seems to pass and I'm left feeling so chuffed that I didn't give in. Mind you , was sorely tempted yesterday cause DH was desperate for me to get him some Walkers crisps and the only place that sells them round here is Victoria Wine... I walked in looking at floor, got the crisps and paid looking at the floor and then walked out, looking at the floor. The man behind the counter who previous thought I was alcoholic now thinks I'm just a complete loon.
Right. I'm not drinking today. Anyone else?
