I don't want to drink today. Anyone else?

Fed up. Drinking far too much on pretty much a nightly basis. Inspired by Dinny's thread last night I've decided to take a one day at a time approach to cutting right back/stopping. I'm posting this because I decide this pretty much every morning but usually give in later in the day - but if I've made some kind of public committment then I have a better chance of sticking at it.

If anyone else would like to join me in not drinking today, that would be lovely.

I did ask about bf and drinking with dd#1, and the paediatrician said that she'd never come across a drunken baby and that the biggest danger is neglect of the baby or dropping it. It's not the same as drinking during pg - all the hormones are different and of course the baby is on the outside! I hardly drank at all when I was pg - really didn't feel like it. I would love to be like that the rest of the time!

I'm not drinking tonight Although I do seem ot be being a bit 'open' on mn, so maybe I will wake up and regret that more than when I have been on here drunk?

Yeah Mrs Oh, I felt sick as a pig at the very idea of wine when pregnant...lucky really! Actually, felt sick just about all the time anyway!
Hi Naswm, don't worry what you say. Somehow we are all less judgemental on Mumsnet than in real life although now I think about it maybe it's that we're parents and now share more than we did before children...I mean we know how hard things can be and the anxieties we have in common? I know that before children, I would look down my nose at parents loosing it with their children in the supermarket - now I feel sorry for them - I've been there!

Wish I still had those pregnancy hormones! I was worried before I became pregnant (and as I was trying) about drinking a bottle of wine most nights and how I would cope when pregnant! As soon as I was I couldn't even think about wine without feeling hungover, very clever the human body isn't it? The worst thing about drinking when breastfeeding is definately the gulit, I don't think the baby gets hardly any, even if you have to feed straight after a glass or several! The guilt and the hangovers are bad though! The thought of coping with a baby with a hangover is what makes me stop at 2 glasses rather than finishing the bottle.
I failed dismally to "not drink" on monday, and tonight, God is it only tuesday!

laidbackruby - it's not worth having more than 2 if you've got to get up in the night is it? I read that the alcohol in your milk peaks after 60-90 minutes so I felt that if it peaked it would come down again? I reckon that by the morning we're clear? I'm counting on it!

wHEN i'M so knackered a hangover makes barely any difference. Today I feel as though I drank loads last night, but I drank a tin of beer. Still felt terrible in the morning!

Berrie · 25/10/2006 21:57

MrsOsoho, one tin of beer is nothing really is it? Why is it that being at work was less tiring I wonder. Perhaps I didn't have time to think about being tired!
