Can i just remnind you all that youve got this far and having a fag would only mean you had to do all of this all over again....so DONT! xx

Pandorasjarboy · 08/08/2006 21:34

Hi all,

had brilliant day with dd and my sis and her brood...did about 15 mins of swimming..didn't notice any particular difference, but that's ok..

also, have been reading that stopping smoking can trigger mouth ulcers - do we know why?

charliecat · 08/08/2006 22:11

If i had developed mouth ulcers it would have been through excess munching of crisps and crap.
Something goes up wiht your nose as well? Maybe because all the chemicals you have been putting in your mouth/nose and the cells become normal again...finding it a bit weird in the process.
BTW, dont know how you are for flem and coughin but i NEVER cough anymore...and that crap down your throat...as a non smokers theres no such thing!

Pandorasjarboy · 08/08/2006 22:28

Hi CC..

it's that 'slick' in my throat I mentioned ages ago..seems to be getting active..it has started erupting....not pretty, but feels my body is doing as it should...

are there any gymers on here? Am off to an Esporta gym in the morning for a 'tour' - do like to exercise, esp. running, and NOW seems to be a really good time for a change - my one now is cheap and rough9 and am in a rut with it) - feel I do deserve something better..but it is about £20 more per month..

Pandorasjarboy · 09/08/2006 08:33

Morning campers!! How are we all???

I am very tired. This is because after dd was in bed and asleep I came down and started reading "Joel's Book" on whyquit. And, Chaliecat is so, so right. If anyone is serious about not smoking, and you haven't read this, then please go to it. I finished about 2.30am, and if I thought Iwas well motivated before ( now a full 6 days in!) it is nothing to my levels of motivation now! Joel is right. Simply "Never take another puff". Joel simplifies the whole experience, and prods you(me) into more acute thinking about the whole miserable sodding business. There is a photo on teh site that scared the sh*t out of me, and that helped as well...

Also, downloading the Quit Keeper is a really good idea.

Nan - is this what you printed off yesterday?

dd and I off to Esporta later, and then dd to a party later for most of the day...more reading time for me...

any other dears around??

charliecat · 09/08/2006 08:35

Im around I still read whyquit sometimes...read tons of it in the beginning...knowing your enemy or something
Im not a gymmy at all BTW....but enjoy yourslef...my idea of hell

Pandorasjarboy · 09/08/2006 08:46

hi CC. You're brill.

Not having a gym to go to would be my hell!! £20 seems pretty small beer(!) when Ithink about it - esp. when looking at saving the expense of fagging it ( approx £7.80. Per day...my own "death tax" - morbid, I know).....

Nanou1 · 09/08/2006 08:55

hi guys !!!! yep thats the one i printed! good reading. and he is right nevery another puff... that's what i need to get my mind around... can't stop. lots to do at work. have a good day. as for the gym... yuk!

charliecat · 09/08/2006 09:03

Bloody successful thread this one

Hi all - I gave up nearly two years ago - I used to smoke at least 30 a day and was one of those smokers would rather go without food rather than fags.

Allen Carr's book worked for me (he's the one that's , erm, dying of lung cancer now) I picked it up mainly because you can smoke whilst reading it!

some of the things he says make perfect sense - you might like lobster but you wouldn't eat it morning noon and night and then break your back carrying it around with you all day.

Scare stories never helped me - I used to smoke more - I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that the tobacco companies don't have to put two of those health warnings onto the packets but they do because they make smokers nervous and when smokers are nervous they... smoke.

Anyway, I hope it helps to think that I rarely think about them. Very occasionally I think that one would be nice - but I tell myself that the thousands that would follow wouldn't be! It's great to smell good and really liberating not to have to leave the house without the money, lighter, etc.

I am fat but I was fat before I gave up - I'm half a stone heavier than I was. Anyway, look around next time you're out - there are plenty of fat smokers out there - they're grteyish and wrinkly too.

I hope I don't sound patronising and that this helps someone somewhere a little today - It's great to be free of them!

Pandorasjarboy · 09/08/2006 10:18

hi zookeeper....me too, would go without anything but fags - crazy....

hi rickers...congrats. and all!!..have you been to see whyquit.com yet??..

is nan the only one at work, or are others surfing on the job?

and where o where is our imaginary friend?? Have noticed her lurking elsewhere....

charliecat · 09/08/2006 10:30

Im a Stay At Home Mum, so is Rickman...I am surfing in between baths and dying my hair and other such rubbish
Oh...I am going to do my 2nd driving test on Friday...wish me luck...but the reason im mentioning it is because on the first one, you would think x smoker would be gagging for a fag before/during/after...welllllllllll, it wasnt until 11am THE NEXT DAT that i thought OMG I didnt think about fags once yesterday...failed and still didnt associate smoking with relief of stress.
Was very chuffed with myself for that even thought I did fail!!

Pandorasjarboy · 09/08/2006 10:42

Thee is someting else as well..remember me explaining a nasty break up this year triggering even worse indulgences?...well, in past few days am getting a handle on all of that and seeing it in perpective. which is something I couldn't see before..what else do we (I) smoke/drink away...?

ruty · 09/08/2006 10:49

hello you lot - I just wanted to say I'm sorry if i sounded judgemental on a pregnancy/smoking thread recently - i gave up smoking after miscarrying [not knowing i was pregnant until too late] and it probably colours my view. But i just wanted to say lots of congratulations and support to you battling the habit, and i don't want to be one of the sanctimonious ones edam! Good luck to everybody.

AmandaP · 09/08/2006 11:05

Hi all - 3 weeks (tomorrow) and still not smoking. Blimey! I didn't actually think it could be quite this easy. I think like Zookeeper said - one cigarette would be nice but the thousands that follow wouldn't.

Congrats to all who are non-smokers now - may the force be with us!!

Amanda

Pandorasjarboy · 09/08/2006 13:00
