Phew, glad to hear shopping is as fraught for others. Last row we had was over a toaster in John Lewis. DH wanted to go home and find a Which report before we bought. I couldn't believe he wanted to spend weeks researching. Surely all that matters is if it looks cute and makes toast..!

Gigondas · 02/10/2012 16:24

Grin at dh smee - we are having a similar debate about the need to replace our aging saucepans !

Waves to everyone else- am a big lidl fan but none very near us.

KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 16:31

Smee - DH always wants to buy bargain five pound toaster's from supermarkets, - which are fine if you like your toast burnt on one side and uncooked on the other, and thrown across the room like a toast human cannonball when it pops up Grin But yes for some very minor purchase he will research the whole thing as if he was buying a nuclear reactor.

We have a Lidl in a town about 20 mins away, but another closer and much bigger one is opening next weekend

smee · 02/10/2012 16:53

Grin at your DH, Kurri.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 17:59

arf !! Dh packs shopping away in a particular order, which is irritating and he hates the self service till which I love.
I think I've got T's cold - sore throat and my chest hurts- don't think I have a temp., if it turns into a proper cold should I do anything ?

Weight loss v impressive sometimes - I never weigh myself either-when I was weighed at hospital it meant nothing to me as it was in kilos and I only know llbs

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 18:21

I would just keep an eye on it atm MAS, - check your temp fairly regularly. Sometimes you can get a sore throat as the chemo kills off the mucus membrane cells in your throat, - I think you would be at about the right day in your cycle for that to be happening now. keep up the fluids, and ring unit if you are at all worried.

You never need to weigh yourself - you have a lovely slim figure. Smile

Gigondas · 02/10/2012 20:15

Manuka honey is good for sore throat (but agree about keeping an eye in temperature)- survived mini gig donated cold by that and hot lemon honey and ginger mas

overthemill · 02/10/2012 20:34

More love and good vibes for you tomorrow otm- good or bad results we will be here

smee · 02/10/2012 21:15

Rooting for good scan results OTM. You'll feel so much better this time tomorrow am sure. Hope chemo's alright too. xx

MAS, you can always call them if unsure. Sounds like you deserve treats a plenty. Whisky mac sounds worth a try to me. Grin

Gig, who's on tonight? Is it chatty nurse?

Gigondas · 02/10/2012 21:29

Sadly yes Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 21:31

loads of good thoughts and vibes coming your way otm
Thanks for advice - will keep an eye on things - had some nice minty ice cream which was v soothing.
kk - you are kind to say tht, not strictly true !
Have an urge to mke gingerbread after that GBBO

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 21:31

can you feign sleep gig ?

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 21:36

MAS you are restrained - I really want to bake some home made cheesy crackers, chocolate teacakes, and an enormous gingerbread Great Wall of China Grin

smee · 02/10/2012 22:32

have never seen GBBO. Does that mean I'm excommunicated?

gig feigning sleep might be your only option. There's always someone on a ward I reckon. I had a loopy as a fruit bat jehovah's witness when I had my first mastectomy, who said she'd pray for me as I was so close to death. She then got down on her knees and started chanting next to the bed. Shock

Where's Topsy? She's uncharacteristically quiet today.

Am off to watch Newsnight in bed. DH away as ever mid-week, so I snooze to Paxman. Wishing you all zzz Smile

KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 23:12

Smee- it's a programme entirely about cake - how can you not watch it? Grin

NedSchneebly · 03/10/2012 09:54

Morning all! Sorry been absent a few days - busy doing . . . stuff, don't know what really, certainly not very interesting!

Did singing workshop with the lovely John Rutter (excellent choral composer and conductor - bit of a god, really) on Saturday. Twas excellent fun, and I had forgotten how much I love proper singing. So I have joined a local choir, and had first rehearsal yesterday. They're not wonderful, but singing some fun stuff for Christmas, and all very friendly and welcoming. Think it will get me back into the swing of singing Smile

Am going car shopping today - possibly one of these Friend's husband works for garage and can do me a super-duper deal. Am ridiculously excited about the idea of a new car to replace my aged peugeot!

Smee GBBO is hilarious - can heartily recommend it! And, as kurri says, its all about cake - what's not to enjoy!?

MAS how is your throat etc today? Do keep an eye on yourself and if you are at all worried, get it checked out by a medical-type person. Take it easy today, OK? Love your Breast Cancer Awareness pic on FB, by the way!

gig did you sleep?!

OTM got everything crossed for good scan results x x

Must clean house for the return of DH this evening - think it might soften him up if I have bought a new car!

Waves to kurri, sometimes, sparkle, gracie, lime and anyone else I have missed. Lots of love to you all x x x x x

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/10/2012 10:52

smee GBBO is fab, funny and joyful, with added cake ! do watch Grin
ned choir day sounds brilliant and how fab to join a choir - that will be amazing.

Throat very red and still sore - bah !

OP posts:
Gigondas · 03/10/2012 11:19

Oh no mas but is temp ok?

ned nice to hear from you and singing sounds lovely. Also v.exciting about new car.

smee gbbo is great viewing as much for the contestants as the cake. No more smug Cathryn now though

otm thinking of you .

Slept ok and managed to avoid too much of chatty nurse but feeling bit sleepy today- although now seem to be visited by every dr on ward just as I try to watch iplayer or snooze.

Sometimesiwonder · 03/10/2012 12:02

I've never seen GBBO either, but then I'm more of a savoury treats person. On which note, I've just returned from a meeting in Warwick where I also managed to buy two skirts get some pork, ginger and spring onion sausages from a specialist butcher. They've been recommended to me and they look gorgeous.

Ned - a new car sounds very cheering. DH had a new one yesterday, it's a VW Golf and I must say he has a new spring in his step. It is quite gorgeous and I am jealous hence the skirts

Positive strokes to OTM and Gig - and to MAS for the sore throat. The temperature is the thing to watch, and if it goes up, don't wait to see if it goes down by itself, call them straight away.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/10/2012 13:13

yep, am checking temp. which seems ok..thanks for advice Smile
sometimes they bake savoury stuff too ! Dh and I have taken against Brendan as he is insufferably smug - ds defends him as he thinks we are being unreasonable.

overthemill · 03/10/2012 13:34

Quick update while waiting to be canulated( who'd have know that would be a verb?) my scan was negative so that is the best of news and I've been randomized( again, a verb?!?!) to have AVD which means no more bleamithin. I am soooooo pleased and beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for all the positive vibes

SparkleRainbow · 03/10/2012 13:35

Haven't got into GBBO this year, but am completely obsessional about watching World War Two Farm and Gareth Malone with the Workplace Choir.....absolutely no-one is allowed to talk to me when they are on....have become a telly tyrant!

SparkleRainbow · 03/10/2012 13:36

xposted overthemill - sorry fab news about the scan!! Well done x
