thebarnes it nearly happened to me - my normal onc was surprised baby onc allowed me to have chemo in her absence when my neutrophils were 1.0
its disappointing tho once psyched up.

tbh i'd like a week off!

amberlight · 02/10/2012 11:49

Surely Waitrose is the right answer, yes.
Hurrah for lack of nausea!
I can't help re the chemo. Went on to Herceptin and felt worse on that than the chemo (which is really weird) and it took about 6 mths for me to feel normalish again after stopping herceptin. So that's useless info Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 12:01

I need to do some work and not go to Waitrose !! Am collecting S after school and doing the long walk to her house which will be good for me Smile

Yes otm it was bitter sweet as felt bit sick after hand stabbing (have non existent veins) so a bit relieved to be released! MAS I too have to be laid flat if they don't get it first time it makes me go very green.

KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 12:28

Afternoon all. Only just managed to drag myself out of bed Blush - I am so tired these days - think it is probably the concoction of drugs I am taking, -hopefully not the thyroid playing silly buggers again.

OTM - I'd say a year too - the fatigue lingers for a long time, and I'd also say your immune system is not right for some time afterwards. Actually to be totally honest, I haven't felt back to my old self since I finished chemo (3 years ago!) I have had other health issues though, so maybe that's the problem. But I do think as we always say, it's never quite the same - it's a new normal. And you will feel well again. In fact once our blood count goes up after the last one, and you don't have to be zapped again you will start feeling a lot better and be able to do stuff.

TheBarnes - I had a chemo postponed due to low neutrophils, and dose reduced afterwards - I think it happens a lot, as Smee says - everyone reacts differently, and everyone comes in from a different place, - apparently I had a lowish count compared to other people before I started, so there's a variation there, and of course if you have been feeling unwell for some time before your DX, your body will be that bit more battered to start with!

regarding bloods - I had mine done the day before, but they would often do them again at the hospital and they seem to be able to get the results back pretty quickly. (i.e. there and then - they run it through a machine in the chemo unit

If you go to somewhere other than your hospital to have your bloods done, make sure you go earlyish in the morning - they usually have a lunchtime deadline when they send them off for next day results. - Worth checking beforehand, to save faffing around on the day of your chemo. Hope it all goes well for you and you get your treatment on Friday, - it's a pain having to wait if you've psyched yourself up for it and made plans.

So glad you have no nausea today MAS, - its a rotten thing. Waitrose sound like a good idea Grin

Gig and enjoy your iplayering, I missed Inspector Montalbano too somehow, - will have to give it a try. I am enjoying Howard's Way, - loving the clothes Grin- I will pass it on to Ned when I've finished. Hope you can manage to catch up on some sleep tonight or during the day.

Seem to have done my usual mammoth post - so waving to everyone else. Will check out the other thread.

jchocchip · 02/10/2012 13:10

radio 2 are sending a waitrose shopper into Aldi!

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 13:21

[faints] jane !!
I noted several people waiting for blood results in waiting room in onc. unit - they seem to come up pretty quickly. I think my GP has several pick ups a day...hope so anyway.
Am going to take the sickness meds before going out as have felt a bit nauseous (spoke too soon) or maybe i'm just needing to have lunch.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 13:25

good grief jane Grin - I shopped at Aldi on sunday, - I like it because it takes less time to go round than sainsbury's or tesco, and I like the different things they have. But I wish they wouldn't have a sort of large isle of crap in the middle of the shop with completely random stuff in it (big balls of wool, cycling clothing in fluorescent yellow, fishing trousers etc. Confused)

I meant to wish your luck with your family tree, it's fascinating finding out about all these things, my DIL has done hers, and a cousin of mine did on for my mother's side of our family - a few odd things turned up that no one knew about, - I agree you do have to be a bit sensitive when you find information.

Sometimesiwonder · 02/10/2012 13:32

I've never been to Aldi as we haven't got one round here, but I'm told the skincare and some of the meat stuff is absolutely brilliant. I need to find me an Aldi!

MAS - try some lunch, it is important to keep something inside if you can. And keep on top of the sickness meds, it's best to take them before you need them. xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 13:50

lunch does the trick ! haven't been sick at all, just that ugh feeling which is cured by eating ! Yes, should just keep taking the meds- i am v bad about taking stuff

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 14:00

Sometimes - we've just started trying different shops, for economy reasons. I preferred Lidl when we shopped there, although the veg I bought in Aldi was nice, it was just a bit more of a muddle in there. And they shoot the stuff through the checkout at a rate of knots, which DH finds very stressful, as he likes to pack the bags in a very ordered manner Grin

Yes MAS - agree with sometimes - a little bit of something when you can - doesn't have to be a big meal, whatever you fancy. And yes again to trying to anticipate the sickness, - and take the meds before you actually feel sick. But if it is a problem for you, ask for something else, don't put up with it, -there's lots of anti sickness meds, and they work in different ways (some on your stomach, some on your brain) and different people find different ones effective. I think I went through about four types before I found one that worked for me.

My GP always used to laugh about Domperidone - said it sounded more like an expensive champagne than an anti sickness drug Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 02/10/2012 14:07

It sure does - worked bloody wonders for me, though. As I imagine the champagne would, too Grin

I have had a look and there is an Aldi not too far away after all. Will look now for a Lidl, I like a bargain...

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/10/2012 14:07

arf - that's the one I have kk !

Shock that you do grocery shopping with your other halves. haven't done that since an epic argument over cat food when we noticed 2 old women laughing at us

SparkleRainbow · 02/10/2012 14:19

OOo chocolate chip cookies....virutal ones will not give me a migraine, so I am in....FIL at door...back in a minute!

Sometimesiwonder · 02/10/2012 14:29

Cease and desist with the talk of biscuits Angry

It's a fast day for me again today. It's not going too badly so far, but I think I'll naff off for a bit while you discuss FBSs.....

PS I have actually lost some weight Smile

smee · 02/10/2012 14:35
Smile
SparkleRainbow · 02/10/2012 14:41

Woo Hoo Sometimes!!!! Well done you, not that you will be reading this because you have had to go and bury your head under a cushion with your fingers in your ears.....

Grin
KurriKurri · 02/10/2012 14:50

Smee - don't be too impressed, DH went off to B and Q while I did the groceries, and just came back in time to help me load up at the till Grin In Lidl he sulked so much because I was 'going round the shop the wrong way' or something unfathomable like that, that I banned him from accompanying me in Aldi last weekend!

Sometimes hooray for weight loss congrats (and Envy - I seem to have cme to a standstill again)

Waving to sparkles Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 02/10/2012 14:52

Ah no talk of biscuits

Thanks for the congratulations - a friend said I had 'lost a lot of weight' That's an exaggeration, but I have lost some because clothes are looser. I never weight myself so can't say how much really. There is still - ahem - some way to go.

Indeed. going shopping with partners is to be avoided at all costs.

SparkleRainbow · 02/10/2012 14:54

Long ago, my dh told me I packed the conveyor belt incorrectly at the supermarket...I tried to suggest that as he was so organised and capable he could do the weekly shop alone....but some 19 years into the relationship I still seem to be the only one who goes shopping......unless I am ill and he needs wine/cigarettes!!!

SparkleRainbow · 02/10/2012 14:55

Waves to Kurri! xx
