It's compulsory, at least once a day Topsy. Grin

Loving the opening ceremony so far. Some misty eyed bits but some naff bits too. The wine is making me laugh at Mr.Bean Grin

Gigondas · 27/07/2012 22:42

What were Bulgaria wearing? Did they think it was fancy dress?

topsyturner · 27/07/2012 22:43

Yawn ...
Will someone please light the bloody cauldron , I'm knackered .
The commentator said there are 204 nations .

topsyturner · 27/07/2012 22:44

For athletes they sure walk slow

KurriotsOfFire · 27/07/2012 23:23

We're not on until about midnight Shock - I'm going to have to fill up my giant coffee mug again.

Is the elaborateness of the costumes in inverse relation to the population?, - it always seems to be that some tiny volcanic island, population 300, will have flowing robes and a giant hat. I like that attitude - 'we may be small and unknown but we can really rock a national dress' Grin

Gigondas · 27/07/2012 23:41

Grin at costume theory. I can't understand when say there are 2 athletes that they have about 18 people marching- surely don't need that many officials .

jchocchip · 27/07/2012 23:42

Have missed quite a bit, been asleep. Shouldn't really stay up so late but may as well wait up and see the end now.

topsyturner · 28/07/2012 00:01

Snore ......
What ?
Who ?
Did I miss anything ?
Bet Queenie is impressed with Artic Monkeys !

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/07/2012 00:06

Fabulous cauldron.

I wish Macca could remember the words to something other than Hey Jude Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/07/2012 08:19

Cauldron was indeed very beautiful and clever - all in all I liked the whole thing! well done Danny Boyle you're a star.

OP posts:
topsyturner · 28/07/2012 10:09

Loved the cauldron .
Even liked the idea of passing the torch onto the young athletes .
But Macca , was a zimmer frame enabled step too far !

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/07/2012 11:44

ugh,dreadful- I can't look at him and he was horribly out of tune...
off after a quick lunch -intermittent wifi in cottage but will try to keep up- also we're heading towards the thread limit again - someone take charge of number 27 and the trolley ! love to all xxxxx

SweetestThing · 28/07/2012 11:44

Morning, all!

Fabulous ceremony, I thought, but agree Macca definitely past it, he should bow out gracefully now and let others step in. Was I the only one who thought that, after his first little song, he was going to go straight into Her Majesty, following the sequence from Abbey Road?? :)

Made me very proud to be British. We do spectacle and pomp pretty well.

Hope everyone is feeling good today. Sticky gingerbread cooling and banana and walnut loaf baking, so if anyone fancies popping round to Sweeting Towers for cake and a cuppa, feel free!

topsyturner · 28/07/2012 11:56

Have fun Mas .
And Sweetest I'll snaffle some cake please , just finished hoovering and washing the floors , so I feel I need some !

KurriotsOfFire · 28/07/2012 11:58

Hope holiday is going well MAS and that you have lovely weather.
Sweetest those cakes sound fab. - I can't choose between gingerbread and banana and walnut so will have some of both Grin.

I'm off to see DD play in a world music festival this afternoon, - she has to go early for sound checks (she's the accompianist for the choir), so I'll potter around for a while then watch her performance.

SweetestThing · 28/07/2012 13:01

That sounds lovely, Kurri - well done, DD.

Big news - if you go and buy the September issue of Prima magazine, which has just come out, I have an article in it about having facial palsy. There are photos and everything! (so you can see how wonky my face is!). They are donating my journalist fee (because I wrote it instead of them) to Facial Palsy UK, the charity I am involved in setting up. It's all very exciting!!

KurriotsOfFire · 28/07/2012 13:15

That sounds very interesting Sweetest - I'll get that magazine, how great that you are setting up the charity, I'm sure loads of people will get great support from it.

Just off to the festival - and the sun has gone in - typical!

Gigondas · 28/07/2012 16:38

Enjoy the festival. Off to hospital as have fever - hope it's nothing as no other signs (except knackered from overdoing it yesterday) but sods law have to go in. And will probably push chemo back
