Oh how scary, poor little thing. How is she doing? Gald it is not anything more sinister.

juliab · 16/02/2006 16:50

God, poor you Know how you feel - had this with ds2 at 8 weeks. Did she have to have a lumbar puncture?

Marina · 16/02/2006 16:51

Thank goodness it wasn't meningitis and hope you all recover from the bacteria and the scare very soon.

ScummyMummy · 16/02/2006 16:51

How awful, drac. So stressful and scary when they are that ill.
So glad it turned out ok though. Speedy recovery wishes to you all.

bettys · 16/02/2006 16:51

Blandmum · 16/02/2006 16:54

poor you and poor dd. How horrid! Hope she is better soon

CountessDracula · 16/02/2006 16:54

She was sick night before last (had had the vomiting bug the previous weekend so wasn't worried) but she had high temp in the night and then was so floppy, like a rag doll, yesterday am. Then she started saying "mummy my neck REALLY hurts and I've got a horrible headache" - couldn't see any rash but rushed her to to doc who found a few pin pricks on her tummy which wouldn't go white under pressure, so we rushed to A&E - they were fantastic, whacked a canula in as soon as we got there and started her on IV antibiotics, took bloods, urine, bp, temp etc and admitted her. Then gave her a chest XRay and that showed Pneumonia.

The initial blood tests looked ok so they let her go home today, after a night in with me(she is a LOT better but still v pale and tired) and they are growin gthe cultures to be doubly sure it isn't meningitis but they seemed 100% sure.

What a horrible scare - glad she's ok.

CountessDracula · 16/02/2006 16:55

no no LP as the bloods didn't show any markers + the xray gave alternative diagnosis.

I didn#t' realise that other things can present with these non blanching spots so was shitting myself big time

Jodee · 16/02/2006 16:56

So glad it's isn't M, how awful for you all. Get well soon little Drac. xx

Marina · 16/02/2006 16:59

Sounds like you got exemplary treatment at the hospital and excellent that they skipped the LP. A friend's ds prone to awful fevers had three - one each winter for his first three years

juliab · 16/02/2006 16:59

How horrid! Making me go all shaky just reading your post. How long was it befoe they told you all was OK? Remember that as being the worst, worst bit - feeling utterly panicked and utterly helpless and wishing they would just hurry up and tell me what was going on

motherinferior · 16/02/2006 16:59

Oh honey, how HORRIBLE.

CountessDracula · 16/02/2006 17:01

About 4 hours I think til the initial bloods came back, but had already had the xray result by then.

The staff were amazing, never been on a children't ward before, so many brave kids and parents who are in there a LOT and seem to be cheerful and fun, I don't know how they do it.

How awful - poor you and poor little dd. Glad to hear you are back home now. Hope she makes a very speedy recovery.

Miaou · 16/02/2006 17:04

Wow, my heart dropped like a stone when I saw the thread title - thank god all is ok (well, as OK as you can be with pneumonia!) - hope she recovers fully soon.

SenoraPostrophe · 16/02/2006 17:10

you poor things. sounds like excellent care though - hope you never need it again.

sunchowder · 16/02/2006 17:13

OMG Countess, so glad it wasn't the dreaded M. I went though this with my DD about 5 years ago and she was so much the same, just like a rag doll. I will never forget it. I am so pleased that you received the very best of treatment and that your DD is on the mend. It is so scary to see them so vulnerable and the guilt of thinking you should have done something sooner. I hope you have a restful weekend.

bossykate · 16/02/2006 17:14

thank goodness not meningitis. hope she makes a quick recovery.

SorenLorensen · 16/02/2006 17:15

How horrible and terrifying for you all - I hope she feels better soon.
