yikes- here we go...

OP posts:
Gigondas · 16/04/2012 08:51

Lime - you are making me want to go to lidl to stock up on chocolate

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 11:35

Can barely type .
Think I may have to kill kk .
Tried my first couch to 5k podcast just now .
Think am going to die .
Got to about the 4th jogging section then had to walk the rest .
Oh well , at least it's a start .
Not bad for a fat bird with Breast and Lung Cancer Grin

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 11:43

Dont kill kk - it will take effort away from
You could be using on eating medicinal FBs

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 11:53

Good thinking gig .
Meant to be meeting a friend at 12.30 , trying to figure out if I can make it up the stairs to shower by then ...
At least I don't have a hair style to maintain Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2012 11:58

Am sure it's natural to be anxious and fretful about CT scan gig -we'll hold your hand.
Dh has emailed to say that his job seems pretty secure as he has 'shedloads of work' lined up for him - phew and hooray ! He says he was probably over thinking things and jumping to conclusions (don't we all ?)
Dentist was fine, but I am grinding my teeth- I am not surprised with the dreams I have.
I love watching Dale- he fascinates me !

OP posts:
Gigondas · 16/04/2012 12:46

Thanks mas - I know it's only normal but I kind of hoped the horrible fear would go. Am very glad about your dh job but it is hard not to worry ESP given current economic climate.

Topsy did you make it out to lunch? I am in awe of you as lifting mini gig (who should more accurately be known as chunky gig) no joke now.

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 13:54

Just had DS sent home from school by a slightly angry school secretary !
She told me off for sending him into school with such a bad cough .
I am feeling like a shitty mother now Sad

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 13:55

And that is really good news about DHs job mas , glad you don't have to worry about that !

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 13:56

If they sent all The kids (and staff) home with coughs they would have half empty classes. Sounds like school reception woman being officious (like you would send ds in if he was sick)

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 14:25

Kind of what I am thinking gig .
Although I suppose I wouldn't want a germy kid coughing in my classroom !
It's just apart from the cough he is fine .
Ah well , lesson learned !

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 14:32

Yes but how can you naff about on mn and watch daytime tv do what you need to with ds home.

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 14:33

And also if covers his mouth and not
Actually coughing on other kids (am assuming its a dry end of virus type cough) he isn't really going to be contagious

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 15:03

Oh it really cuts into my "me time" gig Grin

amberlight · 16/04/2012 15:13

(DH healing up well, the team say today - hurrah!).

Hmm...managed to wrench my elbow lifting something heavy at a silly hangle a few weeks back and it's still not happy. It's the left hand one and that's where I had the sentinel node op etc so I'm not supposed to have much done with it. Wonder what I can do about it?

KurriKurri · 16/04/2012 15:29

Don't kill me topsy - I am nice really Grin

thank you all for driving encouragement, - for some reason I feel more confident than I did when I tried to learn about 15 yrs ago. Maybe because my friend is much more encouraging than the horrid old got of a driving instructor I had last time.

Figgy - have a good day back at work. Hope you get your ear sorted out soon, ear problems are v. unpleasant.

topsy - sorry DS still has his cough, but a bit feeble of school to send him home, I bet all the kids have had it anyway. Well done on having a go at C25K - I'm going out this evening, so will report on how I get on. My trainers are not the greatest, (so it will be them that holds me back, not my fat out of condition body Grin)

Lovely to see you back MAS - I'm glad you had a nice time, I'm sure MIL was very pleased to see you all. Smile So pleased DH's job is secure - that will be a big relief for both of you.

Hope everything has gone well for gracie today.

Lime - lovely to see you, that Lidl choc, sounds extremely good. I have to limit my trips to Lidl because they have so many nice things, I end up over indulging.

Gig - poor you seeing Carol Vorderman, was she wearing one of her uber tight fitting bosomy outfits? Grin

It's very normal to feel a bit panicky about CT scans, keep chatting and we'll hold your hand Smile

I've been gardening, and sorting out paperwork this morning (where do all these odd bits of paper come from?) I missed yoga this morning because I overslept Blush

LimeJellyforBrains · 16/04/2012 17:48

Topsy - better than sending a child into school who had been sick the previous evening, seems absolutely fine and keen to go to school next morning, then who lies wanly and nauseously in the reading corner all morning and has to be collected at lunchtime Blush. Not me of course!

Where is that Smee? No doubt has been delayed at customs by the vast amounts of Reece's Cups she is bringing back for us....drool.

Well, I have looked at the C25K site for a second time, and thinking if I could only figure out how to download these podcast thingies to my phone (not iphone), maybe I would have a go too. KK and Topsy have really inspired me Smile and spring is in the air and almost in my step...

Gracie - hope today went well x

topsyturner · 16/04/2012 18:28

Glad I'm not the only bad mother Grin
One phone call from the school though and I revert straight back to a 13 year old !

Think smee must be having far too much fun and has refused to come home again !

So my inner debate this evening is do I send DS in to school tomorrow or not ?
He is in great form , ate all his dinner . But he is still barking away .
Ooh what to do ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2012 18:34

poor amber - would a massage help ease it ?
Don't fret about ds being sent home topsy - you are a lovely mum - am sure junior topsy covers his mouth when coughing.
kk brilliant to hear that you are feeling much more confident with driving - yay !
Ears prick up at the sound of Reese's peanut butter cups...I expect smee's a bit jetlagged.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2012 18:35

see if he's barking tomorrow I guess ?

jchocchip · 16/04/2012 19:56

Well done on the driving and the c25k kk! And don't kill kk Topsy, just think how good you will feel next time! Just go slower, time enough to work on speed later! Dh and I went out with ds on week 1 yesterday, he's not done it before. Ds set a fast pace but had to retire with a sore foot after the first few runs. Thought dh was going to expire, he doesn't usually jog at much more than walking pace... Love Lidl chocolate, but I must take it easy!

Can you give ds some sweets to suck Topsy, maybe he could quiet the cough that way.

LJ my phone is an android and it took me ages to work out how to download the .mp3s. Had to save them to the computer and then plug phone into computer and drag them across. I've really enjoyed c25k. Wouldn't have done it without this thread! (found mumsnet with a tamoxifen search, then joined in a weightloss thread, then a c25k thread!) So I've got a lot to be greatful for - having cancer is a bugger, but perversely I'm now fitter than I have been for years and have lost nearly 2 stone...

Waves to everyone, Have Hershey's Reese's Nutrageous bars here. Are they any good for the fbs trolley? I've never had peanut butter cups, but these are a recent discovery - peanuts, pnut butter, caramel and chocolate, scrummy!

graciesmall09 · 16/04/2012 20:56

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on over the last few days. There are two things I have now learnt :-

  1. Chocolate is good for you :)
  2. Hoovering is very bad for you.

I bent down to plug the hoover in on Thursday night and tweaked my back (which is dodgy anyway) so I have been in agony since then, felt like sciatica with pains down my leg. Started to ease now but a perfect excuse for not hoovering again.

kurri you are brave with your exercise. I'm exhausted thinking about it.

Good to hear your DH is healing well amber. Wonder could you rub brufen gel into your elbow? I would never be without it in the house for my back.

topsy surely you are only supposed to keep your children off when they have infectious things or a tummy bug or temperature. Flip if I kept one of mine off every time they coughed they would never be there. The coughing bug which has been doing the rounds is taking weeks to go, surely the school secretary wouldn't expect you to keep him off until the cough goes.

gigs thinking about you and your ct. It is normal to be anxious.

Well, got my wig fitted today and got the picc line in. Wig is ok I suppose, very similar to my own style, mind you I nearly fainted £200 Shock. I better wear it now. Picc line was a nightmare. I have the dodgiest of dodgy veins and it took 3 attempts. My veins kept collapsing and they hit a nerve in my arm - I nearly hit the ceiling so they had to stop and try again. In total I was there for 4 and a half hours. Chemo starts 1.30 tomorrow.

Sorry this is sooooo long. Waves to everyone else.

jchocchip · 16/04/2012 21:29

Waves to gracie. :( to hear how long they were fishing for your vein. Will think about you tomorrow and send +ve vibes for your chemo.

Agree chocolate is very good for you. Felt quite elated after eating far too much at Easter....

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 16/04/2012 22:24

Just wanted to say that the Horizon programme Defeating Cancer following 3 patients being treated at the Marsden in London is still on Iplayer and can be downloaded until 9.59pm tomorrow evening. You can find it here

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/04/2012 23:01

thanks extremelychocolatey
Well done gracie - the plunging around for veins would have had me on the floor - am very wibbly with all that. Lots of luck tomorrow, will be thinking of you.
I've gone quite mad with the blogging- huge need to write, weird.

Gigondas · 17/04/2012 07:19

Lots of love and thoughts with gracie today .

Hideous weather here - so might have house of children today as opposed to turning them out.

topsy how is ds today?

Am offering home made banana bread to all you fit types and off to read Mas' blog.
