Thinking of all our youngsters today and crossing my fingers for them 🤞🏻

icanbewhatiwant · 18/08/2022 07:00

I am place marking. I hope all goes well for everyone. Ds messaged me last night to tell me off for being on holiday. He is obviously getting worried and been looking in clearing. He's got to be at work 7am until 8.15am. Then he can collect results. Then he has to go back to work.

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 07:00

Squirrel We go into school. Our school is massive on parents attending, which is clearly not the MN norm. Most children at GCSE's had parents with them for GCSE's. But will they still? Now that they can drive. I suspect so.

School didn't open till 9am. Last night we got an email to say it now opens at 8am. To help with Clearing. This fills me with dred - the last minute change. Obvious that this is REALLY bad. They obviously now know that a lot more students than expected are going to be disappointed and searching using the Clearing facility.

I was fine. Until I got that email. And I thought : This is Really bad.

From the Indie. Looks good!

Nick Hudson, the chief executive officer of Ormiston Academies Trust, was hopeful most of his students would get the places they were aiming for. “We are seeing strong results above the average grades achieved in 2019 and in line with 2020 when exams were not taken – and that applies to students across the board including those who are high-performing and those who are disadvantaged.”

Opps sorry - from the Guardian

Zebracat · 18/08/2022 07:02

Good morning. I’m enjoying the calm before the storm. I feel certain she hasn’t got what she needs. Feel quite Ill with it . Chucked poor Dh out of bed last night for snoring. Think I’ll take him some tea.

272Newnames · 18/08/2022 07:03

Morning all.

virtually no sleep here. Just want it to be over now, should know in an hour… 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 for all.

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 07:05

On another cup of coffee! Will be buzzing soon!

Zebracat · 18/08/2022 07:07

God I’m proper catastrophising now. I encouraged her to aim high, so it’s my fault she has so far to fall. I put too much on her. She’ll hate me and walk away and be homeless and take to drugs and alcohol….

Wheresthebeach · 18/08/2022 07:08

Morning all. DDs Head of Sixth sent out an email late yesterday all about clearing. No reassurances, no you should be proud etc, just have breakfast, be prepared for clearing, have a plan. The kids whatsapp group exploded

Yep here too. No idea how much sleep DS got - he was at work last night and stayed on for a drink after - so hoping that helped him to sleep.

I just want it all over. DS's firm choice want higher than his expected (and he wasn't getting his expected in mocks Sad), he hates his insurance offer, and the Uni he's found in clearing is only one individual grade different to his firm offer. So just feels like he doesn't have a comfy fallback just in case Sad

I've been tossing and turning all night, I have anxiety that in general doesn't like the unknown.

Good luck everyone x

mummabear74 · 18/08/2022 07:10

Morning all I've not been on here for quite a while. I stepped away at the beginning of exams as DD was struggling. DD not expecting to get her required grades today for her offers. She struggled throughout and didn't finish any exam paper. She doesn't know what degree she wants to do now so that makes clearing very hard. I'm not sure if that's how she really feels or her nerves.

I really hope everyone gets the grades to move on to their next stage whatever that might be. I'm feeling quite nervous for everyone.

singingstones · 18/08/2022 07:11

zebra stop ✋
You have done her proud and she is about to return the favour.

Budapestdreams · 18/08/2022 07:11

Hi, another long time lurker here. Good luck to everyone today, it's been a tough couple of years and I hope the results are fair.
We're waiting to hear if my DD got onto her computer science course. High grades needed so fingers crossed.

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 07:13

@mummabear74 exams as the only point to measure and grade are brutal and daft, in my view. Wishing you and your DD all the very best

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 07:14

Yes Zebra, agree with Singing. Stop. You have done her proud.

ChristopherTracy · 18/08/2022 07:15

Morning all, very churny here. ExDP wants us to phone first choice first if we dont get it by a squeak but I thought the advice wasnt to do that?

DS did at least identify 2 we could go for if he doesnt get his first choice and this is massive progress. If we miss it by a lot then plan is not to bother at all - apprenticeships or a job. So at least theres a plan A, B, C now.

Northumberlandlass · 18/08/2022 07:15

Morning all - I was originally on the 2020 GCSE threads, but dropped off. Hope everyone is ok…. I’m feeling sick & torturing myself by watching the news which is all about exams 😫

I can hear DS pottering around upstairs.

DS knows his needed grades were a big ask - he had Bio & Chem tutoring & worked hard. His offer is that if he doesn’t get his grades, they’ll offer him a foundation but he doesn’t really want to do it…. He doesn’t have an insurance….

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 07:16

Morning all. I slept well thankfully. Stomach churned as soon as I woke up. DD asleep.

singingstones · 18/08/2022 07:17

An hour to go..

mummabear74 · 18/08/2022 07:17

Thank you @tryingmybest13 Good luck to yours as well.

This wait is killing me this morning and I just want it over now. Husband has gone to work with no suggestion of taking a day off to help with the fall out.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 07:17

No radio. No TV . No headlines. No WhatsApp.

crazycrofter · 18/08/2022 07:17

Good luck everyone! We’re supposed to be leaving at 8. Dd said she’d put her alarm on for 7 but she’s obviously slept through it? Should I wake her? I think I’ll wait till the UCAS updates happen - is it 8.15? Dd was at a friend’s the night before last, sleeping over with a big group and she didn’t sleep till 5am.

Zebracat · 18/08/2022 07:18

I would wake her.

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 07:19

@mummabear74 Yes it is all too much the waiting game! My Dh is working today, too.
