@Zott 7k with a meal plan sounds like a bargain tbh! Where's that?

@sofakingcool I have to ask because I evidently don't have enough to think about at the minute ConfusedConfused - is your name sofa king, or so faking (if that makes sense)?!

I always imagine in a Northern Irish accent in my head 'So Faking Cool'

I actually don't really know?! Blush
I have to admit I googled funny forum names and picked that one! Grin

NCTDN · 19/08/2022 22:57

@Piggywaspushed that link just takes me to the Trainline app?
It looks like it's better to get the railcard separately and get £100 cash with a student account? However, none of the other accounts guarantee 0% overdraft every year.

NCTDN · 19/08/2022 23:05

Ignore that Piggy I've found the code by googling.
Thinking of railcards, it's ridiculous that I can't get one. If I want to visit dd on my own, there isn't one railcard that applies to me Hmm

Fiddlersgreen · 19/08/2022 23:27

Thank you @PaddingtonPaddington I will get DS to take a look at that with me tomorrow morning.

He has gone through clearing and got a place at Leicester, he seems happy, I’m concerned it’s rushed but it’s his decision.
They guaranteed uni managed accommodation if applied by sept 1st, have had a look and it’s more reasonably priced than Brighton so that’s a bonus. Just waiting for them to send his student number, they said it could take 24 hours to arrive.

@Benjispruce4 sorry I haven’t caught up with the thread properly, what’s the latest?

EwwSprouts · 19/08/2022 23:30

@cheninblanc Sorry you haven't heard, really poor. Does make you wonder how useless the admin would be as a student there.

cheninblanc · 19/08/2022 23:30

Still nothing just stuck in waiting. I don't really want my dds ever going to university now. My own experience was dreadful and I left half way through, I never thought my own daughter would be treated like this 25 years later. I'm going to pop off this thread now as I need to leave it there for my self, being left in limbo has been so damaging, the moment and celebrating or support have gone, she's so broken at just having no decision and I have nothing to add to help you all. Your children are fab, all worked hard through a pandemic and I wish them every success. You've been so kind to me and our issues thank you! X

singingstones · 19/08/2022 23:42

Take care @cheninblanc and good luck to your DD, I have everything crossed that it all works out for her. I'm sorry she's been treated so shockingly badly.

Shimy · 19/08/2022 23:51

@cheninblanc I'm angry on your behalf hearing you and DD are still waiting in limbo and totally killed what's supposed to be a celebratory moment. I can't begin to imagine what you are going through, your poor DD!. Please hang on in there, and whenever you feel like it pop back for a rant or some support. I myself left this thread for a while during exams when DS called broken that he had run out of time in yet another paper. I just couldn't bear reading everyone's happy news so I have an idea of what you must be feeling although of course this is different. Please don't let their incompetence turn you off university. This is quite unusual but hoping for you that you hear something soonest and this horrid wait comes to an end.

Monkey2001 · 20/08/2022 00:38

@cheninblanc you may not read these messages, but your situation is ridiculous, does the university have any idea how poor systems impact the mental health of their "customers"?!

@Fiddlersgreen hurray, we will follow with interest how things go for him. Does he like curry? Leicester is very Indian, DS1 (1/4 Indian) felt in a white minority at his interview there, but not in an uncomfortable way!

Benjispruce4 · 20/08/2022 00:41

DD finally accepted her lot and plumped for Nottingham Trent. She seems a lot calmer. We had a family party this evening so we went and it took our minds away thankfully. One step at a time. We’re on holiday a week on Monday so I hope we can sort everything and fit a visit in before then.
Just want to thank everyone for kind support and your experience and opinions . They are so valued and appreciated.😍Good night.

Monkey2001 · 20/08/2022 00:45

@Benjispruce4 well done! Only a few left needing to resolve plans now. Hope NTU course grows on her. This thread is really going for a Nottingham take-over!

KingscoteStaff · 20/08/2022 00:47

That’s brilliant @Benjispruce4 . Well done you for staying sane for your girl!

Fiddlersgreen · 20/08/2022 01:13

Great news @Benjispruce4 I’m glad you have something sorted and DD is calm about it all now.

@Monkey2001 he does like curry actually! He is also 1/4 Indian but no one would ever know, my dad is Indian but I am very white lol

Zott · 20/08/2022 02:12

@NCTDN Reading, is it good value? Just shows what I know!

@cheninblanc completely understand, you’ve been dealt a bad hand, no wonder you need to take a break. It’s not fair at all.

BlueMarigold · 20/08/2022 05:39

That’s great news @Benjispruce4
Really pleased for you xx

I’m really glad your dd has made a decision she’s happy with. I know a few people who went through NT and have great jobs now :)

DFOD · 20/08/2022 06:09

@Benjispruce4 such a relief for you and your daughter. NTU is an excellent choice. Two of my nieces/nephews studied there and loved the city - they raved about it so much that another of our nieces is starting NTU as well. It’s a hugely popular and fun Uni. Really delighted for you all and I hope that the celebrations will start hard and fast now.

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 20/08/2022 06:32

It's really interesting to find out about the well respected Unis on here, like Leicester and NTU , that might slip under the radar for some. Useful info to keep in my back pocket for my DN in future. I'm so glad this thread considers a range of institutions. Also interesting to see the ones not treating so well during admissions process Falmouth Uni...we see you !

Is there any way 8 UCAS points can be found @cheninblanc. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this on your hols.

@cheninblanc you have my sympathies, I thought we would be struggling (one offer as DS rejected in medicine). So have spent the last few months dreading results day. I’m so sorry, it’s not fair and utterly rubbish for your DD.
@Benjispruce4 so glad you’re all sorted, what a relief.
@Monkey2001 sorry your DS didn’t get the call, but he will have them battling over him next year. I think you said he is doing chemistry in a year? Good luck to him.

tryingmybest13 · 20/08/2022 07:05

@Benjispruce4 Brilliant news! She will have a fab time!

It's so much nicer when they are calmer about things. Glad it is sorted.

Word of warning for those who have to change student finance. I couldn't find it easily, I should have written down what I did so I could tell anyone that needed it.
I think it was in the scheduled payments section...an option to change your course. Once I found it, it was really easy but actually getting to that bit was not intuitive.

Are you based in the South East ? If so a Network Rail card might help. It covers up to just outside Bristol so you'd have to split your tickets e.g starting destination to Didcot Parkway, then Didcot Parkway to Bristol.

Sorry if you are not South East ...just a thought !
