My advice would be to take it (and there’s a bus which goes to York if she wants to visit bf / he visits her).

it’s a good Uni - last year I know clearing applicants got halls. Unless she wants to retake I think it’s a good choice).

@Benjispruce4 sorry meant to add a couple of my dc’s friends are at NTU (some went through clearing) and they are all very happy and pleased to be there.

@Benjispruce4 sorry about the confusion - I thought you were looking at York- Nottingham trains for boyfriend Uni -daughter potential Uni routes. York to Sheffield to Nottingham is another route.
Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon for you.

I know how hard it is when you have your heart set on something but sadly unless she wants to retake NTU or UWE or I think Cardiff may still have Sociology in clearing are really great options which she has the grades for - and all 3 are great cities.

@Benjispruce4 its on city campus which is walkable to everything. Lots of shops and nightlife. I loved Nottingham Trent went through clearing came out with a 2:1 was at business school on city campus. Happy times - Goose Fair in freshers week ( Google it)

Ah thanks guys. She visits bf on train and goes via Nottingham so that’s all good. Thanks @Fruitygal . York was her firm choice long before bf but happened to be fairly close to him in Leeds.
I even emailed York like a pushy mum and they were nice but no room at the inn. Had to try! I’ve reiterated a gap year but she’s still holding out .
She’s on phone to SH . I am all out of steam, barely eaten, fuelled by caffeine and haven’t even started on accommodation and the woes that may bring. Give me strength!

Have you asked the accommodation question? Glasgow had headlines about accommodation crisis, so it could be the decider. I seem to remember Strathclyde has their own accom because back in the days when DS1 was looking at Engineering we looked at it and were impressed that gym membership was free for all people in university halls.

@Benjispruce4 hang in there - I was going to Loughborough or Leeds - serious 2yr relationship - boyfriend was at Chester uni. Results were a disaster - still remember the first day upset and then driving up to Nottingham to take the form in for accommodation as if we posted it I might not get anywhere. 😂🤣 no internet in the olden days!

That change of pathway led to a change in job/ career and the opportunity to meet the DH in my first work role so everything turned out well.

@Heifer can I pick your brain for a friend. DD failed to get any offer for medicine….. until Nottingham phoned and offered her a place during results pick up yesterday?!?! .

we all cried it was amazing…..

How does accommodation work?

Because she wasn’t going she didn’t look round - know the place well so suggested they drive up for a first look then less daunting when she starts!

@isthisreallyitoh my DS is going into his 2nd year at UEA - I can try to answer any of your questions (or DM me if you prefer). He had a brilliant 1st year and can’t wait to get back to Norwich

I've been waiting to hear DD's marks for physics to see if there's any possibility of having a remark. Head of 6th form said I needed to email her teacher which I did yesterday afternoon but haven't heard back. So I emailed head of 6th this morning. Nothing from him either. Would AQA give me the marks if I phoned them up?

The school exam officer will have them , I would have thought. Just needs access to the exam board secure site.

I can jump in here - there isnt a lot of accommodation left but what there is you can see on the website. DS specifically wanted uncatered and cheap so thats what we wanted. In his (Broadgate Park) there is only shared rooms left I think.

We have asked. It’s not guaranteed like some unis but if halls full (not fully allocated until next week) there’s a block nearby that is shred w other students that they help you to book. This making us a bit nervous.

I said how did you feel when you picked it? How would you have felt if it was Strath? He just said I can’t decide - I feel the same about both.
