So, as predicted, the sniping about private school has started. 😐
A friend, who has DCs the same age as mine and who has known them since they were tiny, messaged me to ask how DD did.
Her DD is bright, able and very self-motivated; she didn’t involve her parents at all in the uni process, not even to discuss her firm and insurance choices. She got AAA and a place at Bath to do accountancy.
According to my friend, her DC have HAD to look after themselves, because she works full time and simply can’t do it all, whereas mine have had me “running around after them.”
She also told me that mine are lucky to have been able to have a private education “to get their exam grades”.
Lucky that DD was abandoned by the state secondary 5 minutes down the road, because of her ALN?
Lucky that DH lost both parents, so had a small inheritance, every penny of which has been spent on schooling, whilst we drive around in an 11 year old car and have a week’s holiday in Cornwall each summer if we’re lucky?
Sorry for the rant but nothing about DD or DS’s journeys has been about luck; we’ve made the best of some really shitty situations, by using them as opportunities to look for something better, and we definitely HAVEN'T “ bought” exam results.
Rant over.
