@cheninblanc How deeply frustrating. Your poor DD. Can you go into school tomorrow?

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 18/08/2022 22:42

cheninblanc · 18/08/2022 22:21

Hi yes we've called the uni four times, submitted an email from 6th form and still nothing. I am sobbing in sheer frustration at being left hanging. It is beyond unfair. School have posted all over social media that everyone has a uni place so it's either a lie or they know and we don't!! It's caused a total breakdown here

Did the uni say they’ve submitted the info to UCAS? Because that’s what RH told us, ie they’re blaming UCAS for the delay in updating. So even though dd my four have two unis offering her a course after tomorrow, presumably we still don’t be able to anything until UCAS website updated so she can decline the offer. We will worry about that tomorrow though.

@cheninblanc that is absolutely dreadful, I hope it is sorted out in the morning. 💐

I am in bed, completely shattered. DS got his insurance v quickly this morning but he went off it a few weeks ago so he is not excited. I have told him with the grades he got he is v lucky and should count his blessings. He is conscious it’s not Russell Group but as I said, sweetheart your grades weren’t RG so that’s the way it works. Being 18 they still have a lot of maturing to do. I have found it draining and ours is a relatively happy story. 15 mins of Enid Blyton to calm my nerves and then lights out for me.

Thanks for the support to all.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 22:04

@NCTDN Thats good to hear. Did you rate it? It’s so hard to know what to do.

I did but it was a long time ago!

Thinking they need RG unis really add to the pressure on our children.

Anon778833 · 18/08/2022 22:48

I went to a RG uni. My friends who went to other unis or colleges (or sometimes not at all) ended up earning much more than I did!

I've PMd you...I think!

You did! I’ve msgd you back !!!

cheninblanc · 18/08/2022 23:10

My daughter was 8 points short but the uni are trying to get her through. I'm just so worn down with it, I'm beyond frustrated that school claim everyone has a place but I absolutely know my daughter doesn't. It's broken me, I'm so fed up. Supposed to be heading on holiday tomorrow and she's staying home knowing potentially she'll be facing bad news. I thought today was the day not days after. Its unbelievably unfair. A no is fine, its a no it's a decision but this waiting is dreadful

Fruitygal · 18/08/2022 23:24

@Benjispruce4 I agree with @crazycrofter have been to Leicester fir two out of 3 DCs for the open day. Law, geology are strong there - biosciences seemed friendly and lots if module choice. Place appears friendly and their home made Italian pizza was fantastic x

That’s hard and I understand entirely, that’s not good from the Uni tbh. But would she not want to take it in to her own hands and start ringing round other unis in clearing? She might find a course that actually suits her better .

cheninblanc · 18/08/2022 23:37

She's rung round, we've spent all afternoon on it and been accepted at London met but her first choice have locked her account we can't move forward till they decide. We've ended up with me refusing to accept a call back from the first choice and waiting until who I needed to speak to be free, I absolutely refused to go away and even then they wouldn't just decline her and release it to clearing, London met will take her but ucas is locked by Falmouth! It's a nightmare

Grrrr, I feel your pain. Although I’m being breezy that DD has an offer from Cardiff and an audition tomorrow with Chichester the reality is Royal Holloway haven’t progressed her UCAS to the offer they said they are definitely making so until they do she can’t actually move on I presume )though RH are blaming UCAS). Let’s see what happens tomorrow. Best wishes to you and hope it works out.

Fiddlersgreen · 19/08/2022 06:07

Sounds like a nightmare @cheninblanc I hope it can get sorted this morning.

does anyone have experience of Brighton university? DS had a very generic email which included a part saying “need to book accommodation, get in touch with our team” then a link to a page about private accommodation and their contact details, obviously we will phone them but as we can’t do that until 8 (when we will both be at our separate work places) I thought I would ask here.

slightly panicking now that he can’t get halls?

Fiddlersgreen · 19/08/2022 06:07

It was his insurance choice so hasn’t gone through clearing

sofakingcool · 19/08/2022 06:36

We've got accommodation stress here too

DS didn't get his first choice (who he'd arranged accommodation with), but then got the same Uni through clearing. Now has an anxious wait for Reading to accept his clearing offer there side so that he can see if there's any halls left.

He's gutted as he had bagged himself a really nice room in a great hall initially! Just hoping UCAS updates this morning ...

craggyrat · 19/08/2022 06:39

Well done to everyone who got what they wanted and commiserations to those who haven’t. I hope everyone gets places sorted today. We were all exhausted yesterday so haven’t read much of the thread yet. Even though it doesn’t impact Uni place the Head of French messaged DS to say it is worth appealing his French grade as he is only one mark off an A despite the awful appendix paper grade! He was given 51/80 for the missed paper - so random - he has never scored less than 77/80 on mocks on that paper. Other two papers were A*A for French so he is asking for a remark on one of those as you can’t appeal the allocated missing paper grade and is hoping they dredge up one mark from somewhere. He was really happy with other two results as sixth form has been a car crash!

We had a nice family meal last night, watched Red Rose on catch up and all in bed for 10! Got stuff to read about what to do next from Uni today and hopefully will hear room type by end of month. It all feels a bit weird really….

Volterra · 19/08/2022 06:49

@zott there’s a lot of hype about RG and it isn’t a positive thing in my opinion. My friend’s nephew was really hung up about it and had a thing that he was going to go to one and do better than his cousins who didn’t go to one (one works at Microsoft and the other walked straight into Ph.D after graduating). Refused to look at Bath as wasn’t RG . He didn’t put an insurance down and yesterday didn’t meet his offer and has nothing now, has shot himself in the foot with his attitude.

Northumberlandlass · 19/08/2022 06:53

Morning, I’ve been thinking about everyone still in limbo & very much hope you get everything sorted today, it must awful. The headlines on the news seems to suggest that lots of students are battling through clearing. My Dsis said the Clearing Team at Newcastle took 4000-5000 calls yesterday!

Agree re the comments on the pressure to attend RG Uni’s. DS chose not to go to an RG one, based on the course he wanted to do (Accounting)

DS left mid afternoon yesterday & had tickets for clubs etc last night & stayed at a friends… I may see him sometime this afternoon & we have a family meal tonight. Tomorrow we’ll start making lists of what needs to be done.

Volterra · 19/08/2022 06:57

@Benjispruce4 , @ParvuliThankYouDebbie and @cheninblanc I have everything crossed that things are sorted out for your DC.

Is there anyone else whose DC is having problems ?

I slept 7.5 hours for the first time in months and it was wonderful.

Benjispruce4 · 19/08/2022 07:02

Thanks! Another day of stress ahead. DD’s firm was York. No clearing for U.K. students but lots for internationals including DD’s course. How can they discriminate?

Oblomov22 · 19/08/2022 07:04

So sorry to read of all the stress. It makes me cross because it's so unnecessary. Hope Everyone gets sorted today, so it's all resolved before the weekend.

Volterra · 19/08/2022 07:04

That is bad 😓. Do international students pay more fees? The cynic in me feels it is a money raising exercise.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 19/08/2022 07:12

Thinking of those of you still trying to get things sorted today. I hope you reach a satisfactory resolution before the weekend.

I slept so well last night! I’m so proud of DD. She had a disappointing set of GCSEs (mostly 5s, a couple of 6s) - and even had to change her A-level options because of them. But she picked herself up, got on with 6th form and has come out with 2x A* and a B.

(Take that Mr J - who only predicted her a 5 in physics at GCSE - she just got an A* at A-level).

Benjispruce4 · 19/08/2022 07:21

@Volterra yes, double in most cases! I just didn’t think they could openly discriminate.

Guess what these top unis have in common…
