There wasn’t a lot of choice.

Eek, really?? Was your allocated slot today?

This doesn’t seem a terribly fair way to do it 😬

Fonty · 18/08/2022 20:59

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn DS sat OCR history along with 2 friends. All predicted A star. All got an A including one who is off to Cambridge. My DS did have one question (a 30 marker) that he messed up, but all 3 were slightly taken aback with the marking of a couple of papers where they thought they’d done ok.

BlueMarigold · 18/08/2022 20:48

She couldn’t log in earlier so just did it. Pick a room and press book room. Then you have to pay for it. It seemed easy.

There wasn’t a lot of choice. Aitken seems nice. It says the rooms are newly refurbished and you get your own sink.

Metalworks had lots of rooms but it was slightly too pricey

I got the impression each slot gets a renewed allocation so there shouldn't be 'less' as time goes on. Aitken is what we were after.

When did you actually get the time slot and ow long was your slot.

I'll be pretty fuming if only the pricy stuff is available or he can't have his meal plan.

HarrietDVane · 18/08/2022 21:04

@Fonty - my DD was predicted A* for OCR History and missed it by one mark. School are keen for us to appeal.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 18/08/2022 21:05

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 18/08/2022 19:24

What instrument @ParvuliThankYouDebbie ?

Her lead instrument is trumpet - which she will do her audition in, and which has done Grade 8 in. But she also plays flugelhorn, flute, drums, bass guitar and piano. Chichester expressed an interest in hearing a bit more about those even if she doesn’t pay them tomorrow. She’s taking her bass and flugelhorn along anyway as there’s room so she might as well but she doesn’t have anything ready prepared as such for those like she does trumpet.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 21:09

@HarrietDVane DD did OCR History. Predicted an A, got a C. Her grades were A -Tudors, B -Russia and D- Germany so C overall.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/08/2022 21:15

@OublietteBravo Yep, I have an exhausted DD here. is in bed now and can barely speak.
These last months have really taken their toll so it's doubly unfair your DD is in limbo waiting @cheninblanc and i'm crossing everything tomorrow comes good for your DD @Benjispruce4 and that where she ends up firming will be the best choice and her most exciting Uni experience ever. You must be exhausted too.

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 21:16

@Benjispruce4 I hope it works out for her.
It was a very long time ago but I went to York St John. I loved being so close to the city. My house was right by the city walls.

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 21:17

@cheninblanc good luck for tomorrow.

AnneOfCleavage · 18/08/2022 21:19

Wow @ParvuliThankYouDebbie your DD is so musically multi skilled. Good luck for her audition tomorrow and also for next week and fingers crossed the train strikes sort themselves out.

Fonty · 18/08/2022 21:21

@HarrietDVane Wow 1 mark. I bet if you do appeal, she’ll get her A star.
DS has said he’s happy enough as he got what he needed & is paranoid it would go down.
@cheninblanc I really hope things get sorted in the morning for you. Awful to be left waiting.

Sending positive MN vibes to anyone else still waiting/deciding.This thread normally has magical powers.

Thank you! Genuinely do not know what went on with music for the whole department, no idea if they think it’s worth investigating but I feel like we can’t worry about that and DD has to pursue her own opportunities asap. Fingers crossed 🤞

BlueMarigold · 18/08/2022 21:24

DD had a time slot that just 18th but couldn’t get on until late this evening. It was crashing earlier.

cheninblanc · 18/08/2022 21:24

School have just posted that every student has got a uni place that wanted one, but my daughters still says waiting. That has finally caused the tears and sobbing. To be left in limbo is disgusting especially if school know its good news

TawnyPippit · 18/08/2022 21:28

Just to add our experience, OCR History has been “interesting” today.

My main beef - DD’s uni place was not upgrading/showing as confirmed. We let it ride because we she went into school early and we knew she had the grades, but about 2pm we followed up and apparently the OCR History grades had not been passed to the university. we would not have known this had we not contacted the university. DD checked and friends doing OCR History from other schools at same university and from her school going to other universities also had the same issue, so it wasn’t just a her school/her uni problem - seemed like an OCR history problem. Cue many calls trying to sort. Interested if anyone else experienced this?

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 21:29

I’m also wiped out & in my pjs already! Ds of course is out celebrating & won’t be back till the small hours.

m I just hope we can sort out his accommodation soon. If anyone is going to overlook a vital email it will be him Hmm

@Benjispruce4 Thats good news about Leeds Trinity. Leeds Beckett also has quite a bit still in clearing.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 18/08/2022 21:34

cheninblanc · 18/08/2022 20:23

My daughters offer still says waiting! No rejection or confirmation. I'm going to email my mp tmrw if we've had nothing either way by lunch time, not fair to make her wait all weekend either way

Really sorry if I missed it, but what Uni is it?
DDs offer from Royal Holloway still says waiting - even though we contacted them and they said they have definitely submitted her offer - they’re blaming UCAS. Dd has done her own ringing round though and we’ll worry about that when she’s been to see Chichester tomorrow and Cardiff next week. Have you called the Uni?

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 21:36

@TawnyPippit I’ve heard a lot of similar problems today. It’s beyond believe that no one noticed before now.

Wow! Your daughter sounds absolutely amazing ! Best of luck tomorrow and next week.

Aw thank you, as I said I genuinely do not know how she got C in music. She’s never got less than B, ever. And she also never expected A and B in subjects other than music 🤷‍♀️. Somethings up, who knows what, but she’s got to get on with it now. Very best wishes to your DD too - maybe they’ll end up at Cardiff together!!

EwwSprouts · 18/08/2022 22:01

@Benjispruce4 Friend's DS will soon be starting his third year at York St John. He has loved it there. It's only an hour from his family home but he barely returns as his social life is so good. Got himself a job there over the summer.

DS is stuck with us now as friends have gone on a pub crawl and then to a club. He's still not eighteen! He has had a fun day though going to a friend's & a group of them took advantage of the Nando's offer.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 22:04

@NCTDN Thats good to hear. Did you rate it? It’s so hard to know what to do.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 22:05

And @EwwSprouts thamks.

Hi yes we've called the uni four times, submitted an email from 6th form and still nothing. I am sobbing in sheer frustration at being left hanging. It is beyond unfair. School have posted all over social media that everyone has a uni place so it's either a lie or they know and we don't!! It's caused a total breakdown here
