@isthisreallyitoh
DS had Strathclyde as his insurance so we looked into it a fair bit but haven't studied there. We wandered round the campus last summer & the accomodation looked good and well priced. We loved that everyone was in one compact area, yet it is also a short walk to the city and even the main train station so best of both worlds with the campus within a city. DS was also v enthused with the course modules and options, the bursaries and other potential overseas opportunities on offer. Like you noted, it is much higher ranked (for economics at least) than others with lower grade requirements. He was very keen on it as a choice.

My Sis is doing a 12 hr shift! 7-7 today, so hopefully Sheffield are too!

@Benjispruce4 sorry forgot to tag you x

HibiscusIsland · 18/08/2022 16:56

Well done to all the students for their hard work. I hope everyone ends up somewhere they thrive whether or not it was their first choice.
Dd was accepted at her first choice Warwick for Biological sciences. She got A Maths, A Biology and B French. She is happy she got into Warwick as she was keen to go there.
We lost lovely dh/her dad 4 years ago and although the first 3 years were the worst I did miss him last night as it's at times like these you miss loved ones the most.
@Oblomov22 Thanks for the tag

BlueMarigold · 18/08/2022 16:58

DD is struggling with the Birmingham accommodation. Seems to be offering her Metalworks. Very random. It wasn’t one she initially looked at but it actually seems really nice.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/08/2022 16:58

Appuskidu, DD is Birmingham too and we’re also completely confused by the accommodation thing.
DD is getting ready to go clubbing, and is rubbish at checking emails at the best of times, so I hope her slot doesn’t come through for any time today!

stephaniestephanie · 18/08/2022 16:59

NCTDN yes thankfully! Pleased for yours too.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 17:01

Thanks @Northumberlandlass gosh what a shift! She did say the lady at Sheffield sounded exhausted. I think we will have to prepare for the long haul.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 17:02

God knows what accommodation will be left anywhere. But can’t think about that.

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 17:06

@Hattifatteners @stephaniestephanie now the wait for accommodation begins!! Where are their choices?
I have to say I'm relieved that you have children going there as I was really surprised there weren't more from this thread applying there.

Don’t go there yet, one step at a time 🌷

sazzy5 · 18/08/2022 17:08

@Benjispruce4 what a day for you, you must be running on fumes. I really hope you get some good news soon.
Did anyone do PE? DS had his NEA taken down by 15 marks, so quite a lot. Luckily it didn’t matter but we thought that was already banked marks. Just wondered if anyone else suffered the same?

Bratnews · 18/08/2022 17:09

@isthisreallyitoh just popped in to answer your question - no results in my house today! Strathclyde is really an excellent university not well discussed in the mumsnet boards. The business school is v well rated. I have one DC just finished there and know many DC that have gone there. My youngest has already chosen it as their top pic for business in Scotland in a few years. I don’t know where you are but Glasgow is also a great city to study in.

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 17:11

@Benjispruce4 If your dd is accepted by Sheffield they guarantee accommodation for all first years. Ds has not been able to apply yet - they said it might take 24 hours.

I really hope she gets something she is happy with.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 17:14

My DF is a Strathclyde lecturer (or was, now retired) in the business school. Always a very modern, innovative uni.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 17:15

Read Metalworks reviews....

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 17:16

Sorry @Decorhate i hadn’t read your situation. What’s happening?

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 17:16

Knowing our luck, our slot will be offered for next Weds when we are at Lord's. I didn't know we'd have to look ourselves down for a week!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 17:23

@ideasinindigo that's interesting, what subject/exam board was it do you know?

Wheresthebeach · 18/08/2022 17:23

Dd only has grades, not for each exam just for some. No actual marks at all. School says this is right but it feel odd esp when her grades so far off expected.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 17:31

That's not right @Wheresthebeach they should also have the score and what it's out of - so 163/200 for instance.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 17:35

@Decorhate i just read back through and see your DD got Sheffield as his insurance.
This is such a different day to the one we expected. Having read that York have taken 45% with DD’s grades in the past for her course, I was feeling more confident and also thought there might be something with them in clearing but absolutely nothing! They even had a recorded message saying so.

EwwSprouts · 18/08/2022 17:39

Sorry I went to work & then the pub with some mums. DS got the grades for Durham! He is thrilled. Delighted will be seeing you there @Fruitygal.

Congratulations to so many others. Seems like it's quite a mixed picture. That is reflected as DS's school. For those looking at clearing our family is littered with people who missed grades, changed course, followed different paths. All came good in a way that turned out well for them.

@Zebracat Woo hoo! Over the moon for you both.

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee Good that plan b is working out. I love you grassing your DH up!

@Monkey2001 I really hope you get a positive call from Newcastle.

Volterra · 18/08/2022 17:40

DS only has grades as far as we can see @Wheresthebeach . There are some numbers for something but they don’t make a lot of sense. I think in your position I would want to see the papers to see what has happened to help going forwards.

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 17:42

On his printed results slip DS got raw marks for maths (Edexcel) and politics (AQA) .but only grade for physics (also AQA).Not sure why that is missing!
