@Benjispruce4 Ds got Sheffield as his insurance- so plenty of accommodation left if they haven’t started on the insurance students.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 17:31

That's not right @Wheresthebeach they should also have the score and what it's out of - so 163/200 for instance.

They are saying OCR and AQA didn't send the info...they also have confirmed that everything went off okay...DD uses a computer.

Hattifatteners · 18/08/2022 17:45

@NCTDN I have no idea what her choices are. Cheaper ones and in town I think.
Bristol hasn't been a popular option within this cohort. DD has one friend going with her.

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 17:45

@Benjispruce4 Leeds was the same (Ds’ first choice) - only a handful of courses in clearing & nothing relevant to him. Thankfully he is happy with Sheffield (sight unseen!)

Appuskidu · 18/08/2022 17:46

BlueMarigold · 18/08/2022 16:58

DD is struggling with the Birmingham accommodation. Seems to be offering her Metalworks. Very random. It wasn’t one she initially looked at but it actually seems really nice.

I haven’t heard of that one!

Did you get the email and booking slot from Birmingham this afternoon?

Fruitygal · 18/08/2022 17:47

@EwwSprouts So pleased for them both! Some of friends locally had a shock with missed grades so was worried with

I was in on the Bloody Mary's at Brunch with DD and DH and mums are out tomorrow lunch. We've all had an afternoon nap! lol

isthisreallyitoh · 18/08/2022 17:49

@Piggywaspushed @Bratnews @Chewbecca thank you all SO much!!! We are about as far away from Glasgow as you can get so it’s a real curve ball! But course looks amazing.

DS did Eng Lit OCR and got them for that. Maybe it's certain subjects only? Don't know why thoguh, very odd.

stephaniestephanie · 18/08/2022 17:53

@NCTDN @Hattifatteners so Monday is the day for accommodation offers. DS has gone for self catering in the city. He is fairly easygoing and is aware that he might not get any of his choices. I've heard Bristol can be a bit of nightmare. What about your dcs?

stephaniestephanie · 18/08/2022 17:55

Sorry @Hattifatteners just saw your reply.

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 17:57

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 17:42

On his printed results slip DS got raw marks for maths (Edexcel) and politics (AQA) .but only grade for physics (also AQA).Not sure why that is missing!

We only have a grade.

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 18:00

It feels like there are a lot more glitches than usual this year? Some of Ds’ friends had still not heard this afternoon as unis had not had all the results (mainly BTECH I think). And is a similar trend on WIWIKAU.

I’m puzzled as to why these missing things can’t be sorted out earlier in the week.

Dahliafairy · 18/08/2022 18:00

@isthisreallyitoh Jumping on to to say Strathclyde was my DS’s insurance a few years ago. I was really impressed when we visited for the open day. He was looking at business/economics and the course sounded brilliant and all the staff were so enthusiastic. The business school is very highly ranked too. At the time they also offered an non means tested accommodation bursary for English students so the accommodation would have been very cheap! He (and I) would have been very happy if he had ended up there.)

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/08/2022 18:02

DD opened up her school email to send an email about the possibility of getting a review of marking for English, only to find an email from the HoD, suggesting that she might want one as she’s so close.

If anyone had suggested that she might come out of this year with A*AA, I would have laughed them out of the room.

BlueMarigold, DD looked at Metalworks - the rooms look very smart, a bit hotel-like, don’t they?
DD really wants Tennis Courts or anything in the Vale.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 18:05

Can someone explain this please? DD was rejecting York but not join clearing at all, not even her course . So what has happened to her place? How could it be filled at 8.15?

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 18:06

Sorry- Was rejected by York but her course was not in clearing. So how could her place have been filled by 8.15?

EwwSprouts · 18/08/2022 18:12

@Benjispruce4 Universities make more offers than they have places knowing some will fall by the wayside.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 18:17

I see @EwwSprouts. Well, Sheffield have rejected her too now.

Volterra · 18/08/2022 18:25

So sorry to hear that @Benjispruce4 . Sorry to be slow on the uptake but I can’t find you on the list- which subject was it and what were her grades?

crazycrofter · 18/08/2022 18:26

@BlueMarigold Metalworks is in Selly Oak so there’s a different vibe to the Vale - more urban and right on the A38. Very convenient to get to campus, Aldi, various takeaways, buses into town etc etc. Not sure what the social scene is like though?

EwwSprouts · 18/08/2022 18:30

@Benjispruce4 Sorry that must be hard so late in the day. Someone upthread said clearing was open until 7pm at one university. Have you both been looking to see what could appeal in clearing?

Volterra · 18/08/2022 18:36

@Benjispruce4 , apologies I have found the info. As time is going on is she feeling anymore open to anywhere else in clearing?

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 18:45

Just going to leave this here...

singingstones · 18/08/2022 18:51

Sorry to hear that Benji

Does she have other irons in the fire? There are some good unis in clearing for sociology according to UCAS.

(Sorry I can't remember her grades and cannot advise on the strength of their depts but Piggy will know)

But I bet after a few phone calls tomorrow she will have a choice of places

Dreikanter · 18/08/2022 18:53

Appuskidu · 18/08/2022 16:13

I think they were the most ‘affordable’ (outside Maple Bank!).

I’ve just found this… it says we’ll invite you ‘on or just after’. That could be next week!

I was in Maple Bank nearly 40 years ago!

Tennis Courts were posher back then.

I’m guessing that a lot of the old Halls on The Vale have been rebuilt?
