Thread 36 - Covid Cohort from GCSE 2020 - The Final Countdown to Results Day for Some?

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 09/08/2022 13:40

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.
Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

I hope so too monkey!

Benjispruce4 · 17/08/2022 18:37

Oh god @monkey I hadn’t realised school knows already. No call here.😏

Monkey2001 · 17/08/2022 18:40

horrificbiology · 17/08/2022 18:30

I wouldn't panic @Monkey2001.

I am not panicking, but it would have been nice to know he had done well enough for the call, the others can just be excited now. I still think he will get what he needs. 🙏

Volterra · 17/08/2022 18:43

I really hope he can log onto UCAS at 8.15 as the idea of the drive which will probably be best part of 1.5 hours with parking, is not appealing. College are handing out results from 10.

DS is looking much more calm than I feel.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/08/2022 18:43

Stressing here now. Dd doesn’t want to go to her insurance choice, and wishes that she’d picked one of her other offers as the insurance instead , she also felt a couple of her exams went badly … I haven’t been worrying but suddenly feel really anxious for her if it isn’t good news tomorrow. She’s had a terrible two years and her confidence is through the floor.
Good luck to everyone biting their nails and reaching for a G&T ! This cohort have had such a difficult time of it through the pandemic.

If she applied they will have a record and might help through clearing if necessary?

Right, I've turned to the wine to get through this evening. Ds very chilled, met his gf for lunch and is now building Lego - he is a Lego nerd!

Sincerely sending my very very best wishes to your dc that tomorrow will be as stress free as possible. They are all troupers to have come through to this point and I hope they get the rewards of their labour.

Decorhate · 17/08/2022 18:57

I’ve been out with work colleagues this afternoon which has been a welcome break.

Some concerning info from the exams officer at work - apparently one exam board has not yet finished marking GCSEs. And another one emailed late yesterday evening to say they have “lost” some of our students A Level papers. Given that they sent results to UCAS last week, it’s quite appalling they left it so late to inform us.

Hope that doesn’t panic anyone.

PaddingtonPaddington · 17/08/2022 18:59

Just sent DD to the shop to get chocolate supplies 😋

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/08/2022 19:00

@stephaniestephanie Lego here too. Seems to be working. Has Blackadder on in the background.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/08/2022 19:02

@Inamuddle36 my Ds is home. We are on holiday. I didn't think of exams when we booked a year ago 🙈

singingstones · 17/08/2022 19:42

That's alarming Decor - have they lost them after having marked them, so no remarks, or have they not even marked them? 😱

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 17/08/2022 19:52

Eek @Decorhate !

Just found out that Royal Holloway do a Foundation year degree for Music (CCC). I think Southampton will let Dd in ..as long as she has a B for Music based on the grade profile distribution someone from these threads kindly looked up for me. So I think it could be a goer as Plan C/ D The only thing I need to check out is student finance incase she wants to do a PGCE later because that will = 5 years funding.

Had an email today from DS’s school today. Merely repeated that emails will be sent at 8am and then said to download everything as they won’t have access to school emails after Friday as they will be taken off role. No supportive reminder about people there in case they need help, not really impressed with the pastoral support tbh.

Delphigirl · 17/08/2022 19:55

That’s a bit harsh newnames

MirandaWest · 17/08/2022 19:59

DS has gone off into town to celebrate friends birthday. Claims it “won’t be a late one”.

He now says he would like me to go along with him to school although not sure quite when he’s going to want to go. Or whether he will look at UCAS first or not.

DD (getting GCSEs next week) has banned me from reading out anything from these threads as it is making her stressed. She has (kindly?) said I can read them in my head 😂

Heifer · 17/08/2022 20:00

that is horrible @272Newnames . Students may well still need the school email for a bit longer than Friday. I was going to get DD to change her email in UCAS once it's all sorted but not before then - as if there is a problem school IT will help, but if it's a personal email who can I ask :-)

I'm quite shocked that York doesn't have ANY courses in clearing for UK students now, and Manchester only has about 6 courses...

Comefromaway · 17/08/2022 20:07

PGCE are funded regardless.

and you get funding for the duration of your course plus 1 year.

Comefromaway · 17/08/2022 20:10

Ds made sure to use his personal email for everything.

Decorhate · 17/08/2022 20:10

Lost before marking. Apparently there is a set process for this situation to calculate a mark for the missing paper. But horrible for the students affected

Seeline · 17/08/2022 20:10

DDs school keeps their email in use for a year!

They lost my youngest daughters SATs paper this year and apparently it happens a lot.

Which board is it with the missing papers?

NCTDN · 17/08/2022 20:15

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee did you really think this thread would last through results day?!

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 17/08/2022 20:20

To be fair I did think it would last until today! I had a look at the first year 10 GCSE thread the other day...that took a whole year to fill up !

I looked at York earlier and DS's course was in clearing?
