Thread 36 - Covid Cohort from GCSE 2020 - The Final Countdown to Results Day for Some?

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 09/08/2022 13:40

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.
Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

DS planning to go to school at.30 tomorrow. Will he definitely know via UCAS before then whether he has his place or not? DH suddenly showing an interest...an not impressed by my vague response, it seems...

I think they can check UCAS from 8am.

Oblomov22 · 17/08/2022 17:15

How exciting Delphi.

Took me nearly an hour to get home, partly because of a bit of puddles, not even flooding, but mainly because everyone was driving so slowly - 20mph or 10pm!

Ds's school have just this minute emailed now (a bit late in the day) announced that anyone can come in tomorrow for help with clearing at 8am. Instead of previously opening at 9am. Of course for many that 1st hour of clearing will be critical so I can't believe they left it this late.

Didn't someone say something about 8.15?

Wheresthebeach · 17/08/2022 17:29

@Delphigirl Don't suppose you fancy a game on 'on line charades' do you?

Seeline · 17/08/2022 17:30

Yes 8.15, and then it crashes....

DD going in for 8.30. Doesn't want to check school email or UCAS first....

Hi, everyone. I am new here. Was searching for some sort of chat/virtual group hug for comfort on what feels like a l-o-n-g day. Our DS is away so we won’t be with him when he receives his results. Not sure what to do. We could go online ourselves (school portal) to check results (my husband’s preference) but I think we should wait for him to check and share the news with us. But…. If the news is disappointing he might not share right away and might seek comfort/advice from the friends he is with rather than from us and, while it is a good group of friends, I think we could guide him better than his peers.
mis anyone else in a similar situation (or geographically distant from a D.C. who will receive results tomorrow?
Feeling very, very nervous!

I think there are a couple @icanbewhatiwant is at a distance!

Hi, lurker here on a great thread! UCAS should open at 8.15. Results can be released by schools at 08.00 (either in person or via their portals).

As a teacher who has helped with the UCAS process I'll be in school ready for 7.45. I can confirm that we don't know the results (only exams team plus head). At our place, the teachers will be given a big printout of results and offers as (sorry to say) the UCAS website has, in the past, frozen/crashed on results day. If that happens, don't panic, it's always short term.

It's always such an odd day, with high emotions. Good luck, everyone! (My DD is getting results tomorrow but has an unconditional due to art school portfolio, I have no idea of how I would handle the stress of parent and teacher simultaneously.)

This is it.. UCAS is saying 8:15 but the embargo is until 8 ...I think...so results /emails coming before ?

I'll go and check the embargo deets again

Ahh re: crashing apparently there is some kind of countdown this year to encourage people not to refresh all the time and crash the site!

Me too @inamuddle.
DS is in Vancouver while I'm home with Ds2. Only one more sleep/too nervous to sleep . May have to resort to Gin

EwwSprouts · 17/08/2022 17:41

@Oblomov22 DS school only moved up collection time to 8am yesterday. Made me wonder if they've heard on the grapevine that the national picture is expect grade disappointments.

DS has been in school working as a lifeguard today. He even had to go to the main office, which is next to the Head's office, but he will have been totally oblivious that some will already know his results. He's out now playing sport until late evening so a good distraction. We'll watch probably Shetland when he gets in and that takes some concentration.

I'm taking DS in early tomorrow but then going on to work just for the morning. He has asked a couple of times if I've taken the whole day off and I've said 'no because I have confidence in you'. I have less confidence in the system though!

@Delphigirl Wow! Way to ensure we all stay together on post results threads as we throw questions at you😂

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2022 17:42

Thanks. We have no emails because of cyber twats. So squeaky bum time til 8.15 and then off to school I guess .

Not sure when I squeeze in time to see my own results!

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 17/08/2022 17:44

Congratulations to your Dd @PhotoDad how lovely to have an unconditional on the basis of her portfolio. Which art school?

Congratulations to your Dd @PhotoDad how lovely to have an unconditional on the basis of her portfolio. Which art school?

Thanks, @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee! It's Cambridge School of Art (part of Anglia Ruskin but very much with its own identity) for a small and specialised course in Illustration. I've helped with UCAS advice for over ten years and art schools were a complete mystery to me (the art teachers help those students); the portfolio process just moves the stress to a different part of the year...

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 17/08/2022 17:58

Eesh I can imagine @PhotoDad !

Right you lot. We have two new threads for you to avail yourselves of tonight;

A Distraction Thread We Won't Discuss Result Anxieties Here

The Thread for Results and Results Discussion

Just thought it might be nice to have the lighthearted Distraction Thread so we can all guess Delphi's mystery celeb

As usual we should use this thread up , as you were, unless you are in need of Distraction!

DS's GF and best friend have had "the call" to go in and open results in front of a journalist (means they got all or mostly all A*), no call for DS, so the anxiety is ramping up. 😬

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2022 18:29

Are they to be 'jumping blondes'?!

It is quite a diverse school, so I hope there will be a range of jumping colours!
