I call it one thing DH (who was brought up 400miles away) calls it another and DD19 calls it something totally different(wrong!).
Please help me prove noone else calls it what she does!

The crust

BillieWiper · 24/02/2026 20:35

I sometimes call it the dog end. But I know it's meant to be called the heel. I usually just say the end bit.

PGmicstand · 24/02/2026 20:35

Crust.
I mean I know that the entire loaf of bread is encased in a crust anyway, but I still call the ends 'crusts'.

The end crusts.

WTF is heel??? That's part of your foot! 😆

(North Mids/North Staffs area!)

Makes sense really. Heel being the crusty part of a lot of people's feet! 🤢

Crusts

but each slice also has a little bit of crust on the edges.

This is the only correct answer

angelcake20 · 24/02/2026 20:39

The crusts. Never heard “heels” in my life!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 24/02/2026 20:40

Heel or crust.

Q2C4 · 24/02/2026 20:40

The end bit!

TenderChicken · 24/02/2026 20:43

I don't have a word for it, it's just "the end piece"

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 24/02/2026 20:44

The crust.

You really should have done voting buttons, OP.

Walkinglikegroucho · 24/02/2026 20:49

If its a loaf of bread, I call it the end bit.

If its a baguette, it's the nob. Or the nobby bit. I eat these with salty butter before I make lunch, heaven.

Bluespottedfrog · 24/02/2026 20:56

Crust but feel I have heard heel enough for it to also make sense

RedPanda2022 · 24/02/2026 21:02

Do none of the other Scots call them ‘heelies’ rather than heel?

Tempodrom · 24/02/2026 21:09

Bum end or crust in politer society 🤣

Honeypickle · 24/02/2026 21:10

Sliced bread - crusts either end.
Non-sliced loafs - heels. Or pointy bit/end bit.
