From Too Good To Go! Have had mixed results previously, once I got some sourdough bread, organic lamb, organic pork and lots of veg for 4 quid! But last time it was a gone off artichoke, peaches and squashy bananas. Does anyone else use it?
One bag is from the local health food shop, and one from a local cafe. Might ask for recipe suggestions later depending on what I get.

Starbucks magic bag was a wee bit sad

2 x 3 cheese toasties
A mozzarella and tomato sub
2 x huge triple chocolate cookies

DillonPanthersFNL · 07/07/2022 03:54

@TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo the Starbucks ones are very hot and miss

Hit*

How did I not know about this!
How does it work do you need a app for each shop or does one cover all ?
Do you have to pay in advance or on pick up
Can someone please post a link

DillonPanthersFNL · 07/07/2022 05:17

@DeanStockwelll it's an app called too good to go. It covers all the shops and cafes near you (within 30km) and it gives you the option to buy whatever they can't sell that day. You don't know what you're getting til you get there and they hold payment until you collect it. If it's cancelled and you don't pick it up you get a refund this is mine right now

@DillonPanthersFNL thank you it looks like you have some good bargains there.

Justjoinedforthis · 07/07/2022 06:45

Ooh looks like Greggs are very generous, might try that at the weekend. I am going to be no- salary from July-next June as returning to study, so living frugally off savings. Hoping to partially live of magic bags over the summer!
Thanks to all for posting their hauls, I love seeing people get a bargain.

Good to know re Greggs, I'm collecting one later! Cheers.

Jamandcheesesandwich · 08/07/2022 19:02

Just found this exists, who knew lol

is the bags not the equivalent of the discount shelves and if you use them you get what you want instead of a random bag ??

DillonPanthersFNL · 08/07/2022 19:20

@Jamandcheesesandwich where can you get loads of things from greggs that you've chosen for £3?

Or a restaurant? Do restaurants have a discount shelf you can pick your own choice?

The Tesco discount shelves near me are shit fighting over a piece of sweaty cheese £1 off but I can go on the app now and feed my family for £6 poor people don't have to have shit food with this app

SpittinKitten · 08/07/2022 19:21

I got a Carluccios bag yesterday for the first time. I got a packet of biscuits, a packet of flatbreads/crackers and a couple of individual packets of biscuits and crackers - none of which were particularly nice.

Thanks very much, that's a good way of looking at it,
there is not much in my area , but , have ordered a Gregg's one for tomorrow

DockOTheBay · 08/07/2022 19:31

Most of mine are from local Co-ops (there are about 4 within a few miles of us) but I can just go to those co-ops and buy things in the reduced section and choose what I want, so I don't really want to just be given a bag with the leftovers nobody else code from that same reduced section.

minesalargered · 08/07/2022 19:32

I got a Gregg's one today. I got a huge chicken salad baguette, without mayo (that'll do me!), a couple of donuts (will do for a sweet treat for the adult DC), a salad, and four steak bakes, which will be good to stick in the freezer or help with 22 year old DS's never ending appetite. £2.95

SpittinKitten · 08/07/2022 19:44

Trying a Greggs one tomorrow!

ATrifleofFun · 08/07/2022 19:54

Got a great haul from mini Waitrose the other week, dinner and dessert for £5. Nice.

I’ve used it twice, each time at a local patrol station that has an M&S Food. Collection time is 9-10pm and I knew I’d be passing.

first time - three one-portion pasta meals (all fantastic), two sandwiches, pasta salad and a grain salad. Brilliant.

second time - big posh pizza, big carton of soup, one-portion pasta ready meal. V happy.

WellTidy · 08/07/2022 19:59

The M&S bags were £4 each.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 08/07/2022 20:25

I think a large bit of it is novelty value as well. I’d never choose a vegan cheese and ham toastie from Starbucks - in fact, ANY food from Starbucks - but I’ll happily give it a go when I’ve picked up three or four lunch options for three quid.

minesalargered · 08/07/2022 20:40

Definitely agree - most of this weeks haul is aimed at protecting my current food stocks from DS by placing a few Gregg's steak bakes at the front of the fridge!!

To be fair - the Costa haul (my first bag) was unbelievable for the price. I've gotten sucked in!

Wheelibinsoutinthemorning · 08/07/2022 22:08

The first magic bag I got was from Carluccios. It consisted of 3 individual potions of Panettone, which were several days past their best before (or sell-by, not sure now) date, and one other small thing. When I collected them I had explained that it was my first time using the app.

I went back the next day, not to complain exactly but to ask if this was normal. The person who had served me took them back and gave me a new large Panettone in a tin, with a sell or use by date a few months ahead.

I’ve since had 2 bags on different days from Costa. For £3:19 I got 4 packets of M&S sandwiches or pasta salad (on their best before date) plus my choice of a cake. That was great for 4 meals for DH.

This week I managed to order a magic bag from my local deli - these usually sell out quickly. I got a smallish punnet of very ripe strawberries where all the ones on the lower layer were bruised and starting to go off, a 400g tub of artisanal Skyr and a small cookie. I’m not sure that they’d normally charge the advertised £10 for that, but it was worth the £3:59 I paid.

Most of my local shops are offering mostly bread or pastry based items.

I agree that Costa sucks you in. Great value!

TwoOpenOneClosed · 09/07/2022 09:40

I registered on this this a few weeks ago but have only just become brave enough to order my first bag today lol 😬
It's a Starbucks one and I pick it up from 9pm tonight I hope it's a good one 👍
Anyone else picking one up today?

chiffchaffchiff · 09/07/2022 10:02

I'm going to Costa for one at 6.30pm this evening. A local bakery has one available from lunchtime today but DH is going away tomorrow morning. Bread is my weakness and the reviews say the bags from there are very generous.

MangoSmooothie · 09/07/2022 10:52

Ooh I’m excited, I’ve just reserved one for the American Pizza Slice in Liverpool. I’ve been trying to get one for ages, but kept missing out. Will report back later! 😃

NormalForNuneaton · 09/07/2022 11:02

We've just got a bag whilst on holiday in Spain! Loads of fruit and veg for a couple of euros.
