satansbumhole · 10/04/2020 07:31

yes I have one. the best, dependable cookbook ever! simple, no weird ingrediants.......
it all works.

blossomwilloughby · 10/04/2020 09:07

Is that the Good Housekeeping book with the section on how to fatten someone up after they've been ill? I used to read that with fascination as a child who loved Heidi, Pollyanna and various other books with people who had long illnesses

PurpleBlueAnemone · 10/04/2020 09:58

No, no feeding an invalid section in mine.

satansbumhole · 10/04/2020 10:00

not in mine or a really old inherited one!

NeverTrustASmilingCat · 10/04/2020 13:03

Just stumbled on this thread, My Grandma and Mam had the Bero book so I am familiar with all the recipes from growing up. I use the 40th edition.
Apollo, you have inspired me so I have just put oven on and am making the milk choc cake now, I made the cheese scones for lunch.

Here's a recipe for Brighton Sandwich. I think someone mentioned it earlier?
Rice flour is ground rice I'd imagine.

@blossomwilloughby was the invalid fattening in the dairy book of home management?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/04/2020 11:38

@Apolloanddaphne, your daughter is clearly an excellent baker/cake decorator! Looks great.

I've enjoyed this thread. I've never had a BeRo cookbook and I've clearly been missing out! I did do some baking this week. I made gingerbread, inspired by another thread here, and this recipe was the one I used (from The Place Below recipe book mentioned here). It was wonderful, so I'd strongly recommend it.

PurpleBlueAnemone · 11/04/2020 12:29

I finished my gingerbread yesterday. It was very good, moister and less chewy than my usual loaf.

PurpleBlueAnemone · 11/04/2020 12:29

I got my BeRo book this morning and spent a happy 20 mins browsing and planning.

I still have mine, we were each given one when we started secondary school in 1975.

boomchikawowwow · 13/04/2020 20:45

I'm so glad I started this thread. I still haven't got around to ordering a book but I will. I want to make a tea loaf now.

The tea loaf was good Smile

PurpleBlueAnemone · 14/04/2020 17:25

Looks yummy 20Newnames

ADreamOfGood · 14/04/2020 22:02

That tea loaf looks so good @20Newnames !
I haven't made it yet, because we've no flour or eggs or currants Sad

PurpleBlueAnemone · 15/04/2020 20:23

Hmmm I'm a bit disappointed with my tea loaf. Despite taking it out dead on the 1 1/2 mark its dry and a bit rubbery.
Oh well I'll probably eat it all.

MyOtherProfile · 15/04/2020 22:15

Slice it and eat it with butter on?
