Does anyone have a BeRo book?

I used to have a BeRo recipie book and I cannot find it anywhere. I want to make the strawberry jam muffins. Could anyone link me to a pic if they have it?

Anyone who has lost their copy, try ebay. I found the 32nd edition which is the one my mum had and that I learned to bake with. It made me feel very nostalgic to use the favourite old recipes again.

SoupDragon · 06/04/2020 14:51

I love how many of us happen to have a copy to hand 😂😂

Pebbles574 · 06/04/2020 14:56

Yes! And in fact it has had a lot of use over the last couple of weeks as DS has wanted to make things (pancakes, scones, cookies etc) and I find it easier to have a physical book rather than a phone or device which needs constantly waking up etc.

You can still get them! (£2.99) www.be-ro.co.uk/

Here’s the tea loaf

It's also great that it's so small, we don't have much counter space and working from full sized cookbooks is tricky, Be-Ro is tiny and stays open flat.

snakeinthebrantub · 06/04/2020 15:01

No pink slice though in either of the books I have

Inforthelonghaul · 06/04/2020 15:01

I used to and it disappeared mysteriously- I was heartbroken!!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/04/2020 15:06

My 35th Ed has Battenburg Cake, could that be what was meant by pink slice?

ADreamOfGood · 06/04/2020 15:06

Thank you @snakeinthebrantub !
I have tried other tea loaf recipes, but they've never tasted the same as the bero one I made as a teenager.

ADreamOfGood · 06/04/2020 15:07

I assume pink slice is a coconut confection?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/04/2020 15:10

Coconut and lime loaf, I'll have some of that @Marmite27 if you have the recipe.Smile

SoupDragon · 06/04/2020 15:15

I should probably stop looking through the book and do something useful...

Many thanks Soupdragon

SoupDragon · 06/04/2020 15:20

I hope your name isn't true... 😂

dkanin · 06/04/2020 15:25

This looks like a great book! I hadn't seen it before but I have some old wartime and oxo brand recipe books I love.

Can anyone tell me what sort of things are included in the Be Ro book? Is it just baking cakes/biscuits etc or does it contain main meal/savoury foods as well?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/04/2020 15:28

Grin I'm thinking I should name change, it's not really in the spirit of the thread is it.

TangBloodyFastic · 06/04/2020 15:31

Ahhh I have my grandmas bero books, this has spurred me on to get it out and make something

My grandma was an avid baker and she used to make something called "feather cake" I cannot for the life of me find the recipe in all her books, does anyone know it? I don't know the ingredients but I know that it was finished off by pouring a sugar glaze over the top while warm and it went lovely and crispy and the sponge was so light - hence the name!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 06/04/2020 15:35

The milk chocolate cake is the best!

Boomchikawowwow · 06/04/2020 15:36

I love how popular BeRo books are! I genuinely didn't expect to get a reply to this thread Grin

That tea loaf is the best. Guess what I'm now digging out? Might go old school and make coffee kisses! I used to bake something from the bero book every sunday as a teen and I still use it now, in my mid forties. It really is the best for simple good baking.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/04/2020 15:41

Mine is in with all my many cookery books in the kitchen. It's not the original (the eldest sister took this to the US with her) but one of the photocopies another sister made in the 70s (so pretty old in itself).

I loved the eves pudding, empire biscuits and melting moments.

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/04/2020 15:43

My husband got me a copy for Christmas, it was the version we had as a child. He has no idea how happy he made me.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/04/2020 15:44

I wonder if they still make them or if they have ever done a compendium of all the recipes?

SoupDragon · 06/04/2020 15:45

@dkanin this is the index to mine.
