Ohhhhh..... www.be-ro.co.uk/ and the first book image on the top right hand side of the age looks very familiar from mt childhood too. Maybe my grandma has a copy (the dates would be right).

SoupDragon · 06/04/2020 15:46

The 41st edition is £2.99 on the be-ro website.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/04/2020 15:46

You can get them on the Be Ro website, mine is a newish one (15 years old ish), my original fell apart from over use!

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/04/2020 15:46

Does anyone's version have a chocolate orange cake in with a nice chocolate icing?

Pebbles574 · 06/04/2020 16:02

Mine's this one! Think my mum gave it to me when I went off to uni in the 1980s. All my friends had them - it was obviously a 'mum' thing to do!

repository.duke.edu/dc/eaa/CK0047 A library repository of an old Bero recipe book to download here if anyone's interested.
I never knew you could make cakes with ground rice.

SunshineOnLeithh · 06/04/2020 16:12

Wish I'd kept the older ones she had too, this was my Mum's

God this reminds me of my dear departed Mum Sad. Everything she baked turned out fantastic and she swore by this book

This is my 35th

Ah makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Might make a pie this week.

Can you still buy bero flour?

Pebbles574 · 06/04/2020 16:29

I just had a look on Twitter to see if BeRo have an account and I discovered that there is a lot of love for the BeRo book going on right now - must be a lockdown thing!

mouse70 · 06/04/2020 16:40

I inherited my Grandma's book my Mum's and have two of my own. My first one was used so much it was stained and fell apart. Lost count of the number of other cook books I have and never read!!!! Actually managed to find BeRo flour a few years ago(I am in SE and BeRo seems to be a northern product.) but can not find now. Love this book!!!!!

SpendAPennyPenny · 06/04/2020 17:07

Yes yes to the poster who mentioned the milk chocolate cake!

I made the Victoria scones the other day for the first time. I love those jam muffins too, OP. I've never made the suet puddings or the pan pizza. Off to have another flick through. I think o was given mine at my wedding as well. Cake

SpendAPennyPenny · 06/04/2020 17:09

Mine is also falling apart! Does the current edition have all the same recipes as the 40th one?

Could just eat an almond slice!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/04/2020 17:13

The Australian Crunchie recipe is amazing.

MusicianTom · 06/04/2020 17:13

I had been baking what I though was my Mum's special chocolate cake recipe for years, and then learned via MN that it was from the Be-Ro book! So I bought the 41st edition.

Now I want to bake, but there is no baking flour to be had round here for love nor money.

SpendAPennyPenny · 06/04/2020 17:14

@Lordfrontpaw are you suggesting a Mumsnet Be-ro Bake-along??

I would love that. Maybe after we're allowed out to buy non-essential ingredients like glacé cherries.

ArriettyJones · 06/04/2020 17:14

Funnily enough I was trying to buy a replacement the other day. I miss mine.

pazwaz70 · 06/04/2020 17:21

Love my Bero book. Do all my baking from it.

Blingismything · 06/04/2020 17:26

When I ordered one recently it came the next day, it was a replacement for an older book I had leant out. I was amazed at how quickly it came.

Apolloanddaphne · 06/04/2020 17:55

I am planning to make the spiced chocolate cake from mine. I will do it tomorrow and let you see how it turns out.

Apolloanddaphne · 06/04/2020 17:56

We could try and make all the recipes between us!

Boomchikawowwow · 06/04/2020 18:06

I need to order myself another book. I can't remember which one it was I had

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/04/2020 18:49

I've made it without the spices loads of times and it's a lovely cake @Apolloanddaphne
