Can't believe I've never tried this before! It's lovely and doesn't taste dairy free (it's the creamy garlic and herb). What vegan foods do you all love Smile

So many great recommendations here stuff I've never heard of! Thanks everyone!

Iamastonished · 29/01/2017 23:22

Please could posters say where they buy these products from as well?

Thank you

TwentyCups · 29/01/2017 23:24

The yogurt I posted up thread was from morrisons

cariadlet · 29/01/2017 23:29

Tofurky tandoori flavour slow roasted chick'n - I added it when I'm making a curry.

Taifun blocks of tofu and Taifun tofu fillets - way nicer than any other brand. I like them for cooking (eg in stir fry) or raw (eg in salad or a salad pitta).

My local Tesco's has extended their Free From range over the last few months. I mostly cook from scratch, but they have lovely stuff for treats eg strawberry and vanilla cones, toffee and vanilla cones and crème caramel style desserts.

There seems to be lots more coconut based products now (eg Alpro's yummy coconut ice-cream) which is great for any vegans with a soya allergy.

I don't tend to see Tofurky and Taifun products in supermarkets or Holland and Barrett so I tend to stock up when I visit one of the nearby towns with independent health food shops.

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 06:27

Our Holland and Barrett (next town from me 8 miles away). Is really good for chilled and frozen. It doesn't have a full range but it's the only place in the county (Pembrokeshire) that I can get these items. Goodness direct has a massive choice I'm going to put an order in this week. We don't have a Chinese supermarket but I've seen canned mock duck in Holland and Barrett, has anyone tried it?

Chocolate avocado mousse. Mmmmmmm

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 06:35

Is it your own recipe witwoo? Could you tell me what avocado actually tastes like? Blush

I lost the taste for soya milk on cereal and soya lattes after a while. Felt too sweet and stomach felt unsettled.

Ice-cold Alpro Rice Milk is now my preferred milk for cereal in the morning.

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 06:53

I don't drink tea/coffee but I think a mug of hot cashew milk tastes like Horlicks.

Canned mock duck is what I make my pancakes from.

The granovita one does come in gravy which needs rinsing off first though.

It doesn't look that great when taken out of the can though

beefandmustardcrisps · 30/01/2017 06:59

Also works equally well in fajitas or stirfries

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 07:08

Yes I think it is the granovita one, once rinsed do I fry it?

How the bloody hell do you have a fishless fishcake? Hmm Confused

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 07:29

The same as you have a porkless pie Wink it's actually really nice, and does have a fishy taste Grin

Why do some non vegans get so arsey over what vegans eat?

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 07:33

^ yes, then they throw in the rainforest etc and how eating processed meat alternatives go against vegan principles screams of their own guilty conscience eating an animal
This is just a nice thread to share foods that we might not have heard of Smile

Placemarking. Great shopping list Smile

Iamastonished · 30/01/2017 07:57

"How the bloody hell do you have a fishless fishcake?"

They flavour it with seaweed. It is pretty damn good.

I am not a vegan, but I would like to think I'm not arsey about what vegans eat. I find it irritating that so many food manufacturers make what might be a perfectly good vegan snack and then add milk products to it. A lot of crisp manufacturers do this.

CactusFred · 30/01/2017 08:02

Violife cheese is the best.
Taifun tofu - comes in a variety of flavours, e.g. smoked, basil, olive - and is solid not soft. I eat this fried or cold in a sandwich.

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 08:10

I've never heard of taifun before, will have a look where I can get it.

Has anyone tried the hale and hearty cheesecake mix? I've got a box reduced from tesco to £1 so I'm going to make it up tomorrow.

Is golden syrup vegan does anyone know?

JennaRainbow · 30/01/2017 09:25

I haven't tried their cheesecake but hale and hearty are amazing so hoping it tastes good. Let us know!

JaneEyrehead · 30/01/2017 09:42

Could you tell me what avocado actually tastes like?
Ripe avocado has a rich buttery taste (lovely spread on toast with a squeeze of lime and twist of black pepper)

FishlessCake · 30/01/2017 09:43

I will post a picture of the finished product Smile

Asda do a vegan lemon cheesecake that is amazingly good. My only grumble is there isn't enough crust.
