Can't believe I've never tried this before! It's lovely and doesn't taste dairy free (it's the creamy garlic and herb). What vegan foods do you all love Smile

This is the most amazing dairy free ice cream I have ever tried.

FishlessCake · 20/02/2017 22:22

Ooh will keep an eye out for it Smile. Has anyone tried the alpro icecream?

GherkinsOnToast · 20/02/2017 22:32

I haven't - I hate the taste of soya milks/yogurts etc. so doubt the ice cream will pass my taste test.

Nemesia · 20/02/2017 22:36

I'm not keen on the alpro vanilla ice cream. It has a weird chemical taste to me. The chocolate hazelnut one is much better.

FishlessCake · 21/02/2017 09:50

I find that with the alpro vanilla big pot, very strange taste.

I'm coming round to the original alpro Greek style yoghurt. It's ok mixed with blueberries and a bit of crunch on top.

Made beetroot bourguinon for dinner tonight as bought loads of beetroot a week or so ago and figured I should actually use it! Was pretty nice.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/02/2017 22:14

Thanks fishless I made it for a non vegan friend and she loved it.its embarrassingly easy to make and everyone who tries it loves it despite reservations "that's weird making cake without eggs, milk or butter"Grin

Thankyou, I've got that down incase I lose this within the thread. Sounds just my sort of thing

FishlessCake · 22/02/2017 09:44

Does anyone know what the cup measurement would be in oz or g?

OP posts:
economymode · 22/02/2017 12:54

Don't know off hand but there are plenty of converters online. Weight will depend upon whether it's a cup of solid or liquid.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 22/02/2017 20:11

Vbites are bringing out new Lemon and Black Pepper Scampi Style Bites. It just says coming soon so I'm not sure when

Holland and Barratts sell Vbites stuff, morrissons sell a few bits, and you can buy it online direct from them

FishlessCake · 22/02/2017 20:56

I like the vbites sage slices and their roasts the best. Plus if you order from them direct their customer service is amazing, at Christmas they missed two items from our order but had put three other items in. I phoned them and they said it was a mistake but we could keep the items and they would send the other items to us Smile.
I tried the tinned mock duck (drained and fried as suggested in here). Not a fan, the texture was not what I was used to. I will try the tinned tofu next time I go to h&b.

I made these today www.davidlebovitz.com/chocolate-chocolate-chip-cookies-recipe/ but dubbed the egg for flax egg. Only made 1/4 of the recipe as it makes 50! But very nice they are too.

Also made a cream of tomato soup using sheese.

I'm using up the cauldron vegan sausages I bought. Think I'm the only person who doesn't like them! Find them too peppery.

FishlessCake · 23/02/2017 06:30

Going to make zoos cake today. I've found a cup conversion and also a vegan sticky toffee sauce recipe Smile

How did I not know about this thread lol. Been vegetarian for about 30 years and vegan for 9 years. I am having a wobble here re Alpro. I use their original UHT soya milk (the fridge one has identical packaging but has the opening at the front rather than the top, and doesnt taste very nice in tea or coffee, too strong) because its the same formula as the Alpro for Professionals that Costa use, but its half the price. Its great in tea and coffee and doesnt split or curdle. I also like Alpro fruit yogurts especially the GoOn.

BUT Alpro have been bought out by the dairy giant Danone.
So I think after this last bottle in the fridge, I am off. In fact I bought Aldis new soya and almond milks, unsweetened, yesterday to try.If I dont like that it will be Oatly from now on. I think Alpro are losing a lot of cuatomers and its a shame as their stuff is nice, but most vegans dont feel right contributing to a market leader in the dairy industry, and not only that its Alpro's dismissive attitude to vegans, who have financed them for all these years. In fact I feel the dairy industry is worse than meat in a lot of ways. Its what finally made me go vegan from veggie.

Heres one of many articles for those who didnt know :
theveganpunk.com/alpro-plant-milk-show-how-not-to-do-vegan-marketing-and-pr/

FishlessCake · 23/02/2017 09:38

Thanks for the heads up on Danone. I don't drink tea/coffee so no idea on what works best. But I agree in regards to the dairy industry, it's prolonging the agony and suffering of the animal.

Actual recipe was 350g p flour,235g dark brown sugar. I work in cups mostly so kids can help without Major disasters!!

bestcatintheworld · 25/02/2017 19:57

Thanks for that Alpro link, I had no idea. We have mainly Alpro chocolate almond milk for coffees here, I might have to try Oatly's chocolate milk instead. Don't want to support that.
