Can't believe I've never tried this before! It's lovely and doesn't taste dairy free (it's the creamy garlic and herb). What vegan foods do you all love Smile

This is the recipe I used cannyfood.co.uk/uncategorized/vegan-dairyfree-yorkshire-pudding-recipe/. I didn't have any egg replacer but it still came out nice. Used Linda McC sausages as our local Iceland sells them for £1.25/packet so always have some in the freezer.

economymode · 15/02/2017 21:40

I've just tried the alpro go on yoghurt and I don't like it! I have 2 tubs (ordered it from ocado thinking I might like it). Any thoughts what I could do with it?!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 15/02/2017 23:34

Mix it in smoothies? Could try mixing fruit in then freezing like frozen yoghurt ice cream sort of thing?

FishlessCake · 16/02/2017 06:00

I've got two small pots of the alpro go on yogurts in the fridge, they were on special in tesco I haven't tried them yet. My favourite is the alpro big pot either cherry or strawberry and rhubarb (which thankfully tastes nothing like rhubarb).

Thanks for the recipe @economymode I will try it out.

Just tried the alpro pot (blackcurrant one). It's certainly different, I quite like it ands it filled me up more than eating a whole big pot Blush.
Also forget to say I found some maccies? Crisps in poundland turkey and haggis flavour which are labelled vegan!

Dd2 decided fancy experiment a little. We had rice with green beans and wilted spinach planned.D's wanted tuna, lil zoo(miss dairy free) wanted hummus.dd2(vegetarian)ask could make something vaguely similar.we mix tahini, little dry rosemary we ground to power, garlic and eater to single cream consistency then added butter beans and blitz hand blender add touch vegan stock powder.I think she was bit heavy handed tahini but it made the cooked rice and veggies quite delicious so thought we "share" her efforts!!Grin
At some point in next day or so will make banana muffins n post pic

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/02/2017 13:55

Eater?waterBlush

FishlessCake · 18/02/2017 14:36

That sounds lovely Smile, make sure you do post a picture.
Went into the pound shop and found that their gluten free Worcester sauce is vegan! I've never tried normal Worcester sauce so I doubt this will disappoint Wink. Also from what I could see colmans packet mix parsley sauce is suitable too.

I got lil zoo some raspberry ruffles from home bargains.her little face was classic as she bit in and discovered deliciousness(cos let's be honest dairy free choc buttons etc can be very "dry tasting")

TellMeItsNotTrue · 18/02/2017 18:49

Had she never tried them? I grew up on those!

You should have a look at Vegan Town for lots of lovely chocolate treats. I found them recently and am currently working my way through everything! Lots of it you wouldn't know was vegan

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/02/2017 19:24

Thanks for the link tell I just didn't check packets and assumed she couldn't eat themBlush
I found loads accidental vegan recently just by packet checking
BTW if a jelly doesn't have cochineal or gelatine why would it still not be suitable veggies or vegan (sorry if that's a stupid question)

FishlessCake · 18/02/2017 19:58

Raspberry ruffles are the greatest, I'm going to grab a bag tomorrow Grin. Thanks for the link to vegan town @TellMeltsNotTrue
You can also get a 3 pack of frys creams in poundland (mint and original flavour).

We aren't vegan but are dairy, egg and gluten free due to allergies. We do regularly eat vegan though. I make pretty good Yorkshire puddings using flax egg. The sainsburys vegan cheeses are really good too. I like hazelnut milk best in coffee and rude health oat milk for everything else. I mostly gave up on chocolate but my husband ,daughter and son like the dairy free orange chocolate best

FishlessCake · 18/02/2017 20:25

Does anyone keep their own pet hens? We are getting 4 at Easter, we have a large garden which backs onto woods so plenty of room for them to roam. People keep asking if I would eat eggs from my own pet hens, I'm pretty set on not. But can you get more ethical than your own pet hens who you would keep regardless if they stop laying (planning ex battery hens).

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 18/02/2017 21:08

You can't say better than than fishless your veggie kids are eating eggs from well cared for hens as locally sources as physically possible!!
Hmmm Fry's creme bars -must go to poundland and start reading packets--

PhoenixJasmine · 18/02/2017 21:13

I'd eat eggs from my own ex-battery hens, yeah, otherwise you're just throwing food away. In that instance you've rescued the animals and I don't think rehoming ex-batteries supports the industry in any way.

I used the LM sausages this week, cooked and then cut into small sections to act as meatballs in a tomatoey pasta sauce. Worked very well.

In other news I made my own soy milk! It was a MASSIVE faff Grin soaking, skinning, blending, straining, boiling. Took about an hour to get 500ml of milk. But it was quite a meditative thing to do and felt very nice in a earth-hippy kinda way to start with beans and water and end up with milk. I won't be doing it every week but I did enjoy it and will do it on occasion! It's also left me with okara (soy bean pulp) which I can use as an ingredient, just need to think what in.

Oat and almond milks will be much quicker and easier, I'll try them next.

Approximateh0usewife · 18/02/2017 21:22

Meridian crunchy peanut butter, yes aware it's just peanut butter, but I couldn't exist without it.

Vegan kimchi is my latest obsession.

Ben & Jerrys dairy free that I had too much if on hols last summer. not available in U.K as yet. Almost worth tolerating Trump for. Almost.

FishlessCake · 18/02/2017 21:24

Wow Phoenix that's really impressive.
So many people have told me it's better to buy young healthy hens, but for me the point is to give some hens a peaceful nice easy life for the rest of their days regardless of how many eggs they can give. The local rescue centre has loads of ex battery hens needing homes. We get eggs from a cattery at the minute who have hens wandering everywhere, who just die a natural death of old age. Plus they just have an honesty box for their eggs.

Just read the whole thread,so many ideas...I looked on amazon....3 boxes of beeches coffee creams for £6...and loads of other flavours...I practically live of the Quorn fishless fingers .100 calories for 3 of them....sainsburys are doing them.tesco sometimes..yum...and no wind...I could never touch vegetarian Quorn,or everyone suffered..but the vegan stuff no problem.there are vegan Quorn fillets I use in wraps ,or with pasta in stead of tofu as kids arnt to keen...but I could live of tofu roasted with soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce...yum .tesco do big packs of stirfy veg ,chuck it in a wok with some oven cooked tofu , noodles, check for egg, plenty are vegan, and you've a easy meal in minutes...

Slimmingsnake · 18/02/2017 21:33

I make a mean vegan mousaka,...so easy Tesco do a frozen tomato sauce..an aubergine and couple of potatoes sliced alternatively throw a few chunk s of the frozen sauce between layers plus a bit of white sauce..(.soya milk or rice milk,a shake of some flour, and sainsburys or Tesco own make vegan chesse...not a lot, touch of mustard shake of frozen garlic.and cook.)cooks quick and thickens nicely...pour over ,or in between the layers,I put onion in to.and cook..bloody lovely...I also make a vegan potato dauphinois as above but no aubergine or tomato sauce...totally yum

FishlessCake · 18/02/2017 21:46

@Slimmingsnake the beeches creams are so good, especially the rose and violet ones. I can't wait to try the quorn fishless fingers.
Going to try the mock tinned duck tomorrow.
