I'd be really grateful if you lot would critique our dinner tonight, to see how healthy/nutritious it is.

Each plate had:

55g rump steak
2 X baby potatoes roasted in olive oil
1/4 pink onion, roasted with pots
60g champignons, sautéed in butter
130g mixed salad
10g crispy noodles (on salad)
Approx 3tbsp mustard gravy, made with steak juices, tbsp wholegrain mustard, and a few gravy granules

I suppose it's nutritious enough, but very tiny.

I'd still be starving afterwards.

Did you really weigh everything!?

cheeseandmarmite15 · 29/06/2016 11:06

I would be stuffed after that.

No idea how healthy but I would consider that a large meal which if eaten occasionally, would be fine.

I would have committed the salad and crispy noodles as they wouldn't have gone with the rest the meal.

Letmehaveausername · 29/06/2016 11:06

I agree, seems quite small? But....

Will you come make dinner for me tonight please? Grin sounds great!

LillyVonSchtupp · 29/06/2016 11:07

Sounds small.

And salad and gravy on the same plate is just wrong 😯.

Apart from that, fine!

Hastalapasta · 29/06/2016 11:07

Sounds fab, I would cook larger steaks and more spuds but my lot are gluttons for both...
Good balance of nutrients. If you followed it with fresh fruit it would be perfect!

musicposy · 29/06/2016 11:08

Depends who it's for. 55g - that's less than 2oz? So really tiny.
DH would be starving - he'd eat an 8oz steak and probably around 6-8 baby potatoes. He's thin, though, so not trying to lose weight.
For younger DCs I'd say it sounds fine, depending on age.

Artandco · 29/06/2016 11:09

Salad with gravy?
Potatoes with noodles?
Slightly strange

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 29/06/2016 11:09

2 potatoes?

Shock

2??

Did you watch Oliver and think the dinner scene was aspirational?

2??

What's a pink onion? Didn't know onions came in pink.

And what's the French sounding thing?

It sounds lovely. But you need more than 2 baby potatoes.

user1465823522 · 29/06/2016 11:13

butter and oil? Not that healthy. and the portions are very small.

user1465823522 · 29/06/2016 11:13

And what's the French sounding thing?

Mushrooms

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 29/06/2016 11:14

I generally do, not exactly, but go by approximations from labels, deli weights etc.

I found it fairly filling. Interesting to hear that it sounds small.

Champignons are mushrooms, the crispy noodles went on the salad and the mustard gravy went on the steak. Honestly, it was enjoyed here.

We'd normally have steak, very large salad and 4-5 potatoes

Salad with gravy Why? Confused
Noodles and potatoes Confused Why would you need noodles and potatoes?

BarbaraofSeville · 29/06/2016 11:18

What what the mixed salad? 130 g of leaves is a massive pile, but if it was carrots, tomatoes, cucumber etc, not so much.

Seems a bit small and insubstantial and I say that as someone who eats little in the evening. I would be OK with it but I would have had larger breakfasts and lunches.

Butter and oil is not unhealthy as long as the food wasn't drenched in it. But it sounds quite nice really - sauted noodles is probably the least healthy component and a bit of a random addition really. I would drop those and have more steak and mushrooms.

musicposy · 29/06/2016 11:19

Why do you weigh everything? unless you have a reason eg a very obese family member, it's not healthy to get into weighing everything you eat. Is there a reason you need your dinner critiqued?

I'm not trying to be snippy, just concerned as to what's behind this.

blueskyinmarch · 29/06/2016 11:19

That is the worlds tiniest steak and the mix of stuff you had with it was slightly weird. You need bigger steak, more potatoes, lose the noodles/salad bit and keep the mushrooms/onion. Maybe add green veg for nutrition - broccoli or kale?

I had a steak on Friday just for me and it was 250g! I had it with sweet potato fries (done in oven, half a sweet potato) and some sour cream to dip. No veg as couldn’t be bothered. I am steadily and consistently losing weight and my app told me this dinner was healthy (based on a low carb diet plan).

MitzyLeFrouf · 29/06/2016 11:19

Why exactly do you need MN members' feedback on your dinner?? You ate it, you all enjoyed it. What am I missing?

SpaceUnicorn · 29/06/2016 11:22

I was just about to post the same thing. Why do you want strangers on the Internet to 'critique' a meal you ate yesterday? Confused

RortyCrankle · 29/06/2016 11:23

I don't have a massive appetite these days but that sounds miniscule to me for an adult.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2016 11:23

I am surprised and concerned you found it filling.

That's a very small meal. Your bouche was hardly amused.

If you continue to find that satisfying, continue to weigh everything I'm going to suggest that you visit the doctor to rule out worms and to assess any concerns about your mental health.

SpaceUnicorn · 29/06/2016 11:27

Oh, sorry, it's your dinner for tonight, not yesterday's dinner.

Still very confused by the thread. Not least what the point is in making/apportioning 10g of noodles per person.

FeckinCrutches · 29/06/2016 11:27

55g of steak is absolutely tiny. This is 55g of cheese next to a teaspoon. (Don't judge me, I'm in the kitchen making something Grin)

What do you want us to tell you exactly? If you enjoyed it, fine! But it's a very small portion

please critique our dinner
miaowmix · 29/06/2016 11:29

was it a -chimps- kids' tea party?
Who weighs food?
Why 2 carbs?
Why salad and gravy?

so many questions...

Yokohamajojo · 29/06/2016 11:31

I would happily eat salad and gravy together every day! love the mix of cold and hot my husband absolutely hate it and would eat his salad afterwards, weirdo

Tatiana11235 · 29/06/2016 11:33

How bizarre Confused

FeckinCrutches · 29/06/2016 11:34

The more I look at that cheese the more I can't stop laughing. My family would be wondering what the hell was going on. It's like cutting up one normal steak to feed a family of four.
