Here it is.

recipes, tips all welcome

DH The DCs bought me Marian Keyes Saved By Cake book for my birthday, might start that and I've also got the River Cottage cake book - made a mean Lemon Drizzle cake from that with the KA. Much nicer that Mary Berry's - sorry Mary Blush

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 18:14

wem - having a stand mixer made the world of difference to cake-making (vs using Magimix) - and even more so to "frosting" (the hummingbird ones, especially) - you need one [sorry]

sybilvimes · 15/03/2012 18:15

Kellamity I got my kitchenaid cookbook just last week. I let it fall open in the first flush of excitement and it revealed - the champagne poached salmon...

At which point I just knew that it wasn't going to replace Nigella as my cookbook of choice. Seriously people, champagne is for drinking

Hairytoes · 15/03/2012 18:17

Sybil - you haven't perchance got a Dualit toaster have you?
The reason I askk is because after Chicken posted the bargainous price to be had on Selfridges website it has spurred me on to get one tonight. i can't make up my mind between the Ice Blue or just the plain ol' white though. My Dualit is Ice Blue, but I'm not sure the colour will be the same.
What is a girl to do?

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 18:21

I want a dualit

Champagne poached salmon would be lovely if it wasn't such a waste f champagne. Though it would be a great excuse to have to buy champagne Grin I'd like some more savoury ideas. I did make souffles once and they were very nice.

Jins · 15/03/2012 18:23

I've done Tiger bread already with my KA

sybilvimes · 15/03/2012 18:25

Sorry Hairytoes, I have a nice cream Delonghi toaster.

The ice blue Kitchenaid is more of a minty duckegg blue in my opinion if that helps at all probably not eh Grin

Hairytoes · 15/03/2012 18:28

That helps a lot thanks, my toaster is more blue.
Off to get me a white one :)

sybilvimes · 15/03/2012 18:28

I haven't made tiger bread feels like an under-achiever which recipe did you use and is it foolproof?

Hairytoes · 15/03/2012 18:41

I've ordered, am all excited now.
There was even an option to write a gift message, I couldn't resist writing To Me, Love from Me :)
I am sure DH will see the funny side!

PrancingBuffalo · 15/03/2012 18:51

I still haven't got my KA cook book - is that the one that you get if you register the guarantee? Must chase it up.

I got an extra glass bowl with mine, which is great for bread and yeast doughs - I rinse it out with hot water first so it holds a bit of heat for the rise. well in my head anyway

wem · 15/03/2012 18:56

Is it Kitchenaid or nothing? Are there any other stand mixers out there that are worth getting? I realise I'm probably asking the wrong people here...

sybilvimes · 15/03/2012 18:57

I got the glass bowl as well PrancingBuffalo so I suspect we got our KA's at similar times. My book arrived literally last week - it took ages.

Al0uise · 15/03/2012 19:09

I need the recipe book and the glass bowl. Might just have solved everyone's mothers day dilemma in this house.

PrancingBuffalo · 15/03/2012 19:13

Christmas present Sybil? Mine was!

I like your message to yourself Hairytoes.

Does anyone have the flexi beater and does it work?

OliviaMumsnet · 15/03/2012 19:17

Is there actual QUICHE on here? Grin

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 19:19

Wem the main other alternative is the ken wood, but it isn't half as nice looking. It works well though, I had an ancient one before I got my kitchenaid.

sybilvimes · 15/03/2012 19:29

yep, I was obviously a very good girl last year and Santa must have been feeling generous.

BiltongandBoerewors · 15/03/2012 19:47

I have the flexi beater and it make quite a difference to unmixed in butter etc. you get stuck in the bottom of the bowl with the normal beater, no need ot scrape the side of the bowl so often.

Al0uise · 15/03/2012 20:02

I didn't even know about the flexi beater. I love this quiche.

Hairytoes · 15/03/2012 20:10

I have just been looking at the attatchments, looks like the Flexi beater will be next on my hitlist.
Is anyone going to own up to having the can-opener - £50 OMG! Surely nobody would buy that.

Stase · 15/03/2012 20:24

Hello Quichers, I was thinking of starting a KitchenAid related thread a while ago, and now I know I'm in the right place. Grin

I wonder if anyone else finds themselves wishing they had another colour? I have a red one, that went nicely in the kitchen in our last house, but now I have a cream and blues kitchen and it doesn't really go. Any chance someone out there would love a red KitchenAid (about 6 years old) who has a more complementary colour to swap? Would need to be local as they weigh a tonne, but I'd consider lots of colours, just not primary/brights iykwim

Don't look at me like I'm nuts, I've seen how excited some of you are getting about all the fancy attachments! (attachments not part of the swap deal, obv)

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 20:35

LOL at Olivia. There's a stationery quiche and a cake quiche going already - what more do you want, woman?! (it is you who is the stationery fetishist of MNHQ, isn't it?)

So - flexibeater is a yes then? My family rejected my Amazon wishlist (including that) as "too boring" last year, leaving me wailing "but that's what I want" Sad

Likeaheadlesschicken · 15/03/2012 20:40

Eek how exciting Hairytoes, love the message, it will become your new favourite thing, trust me, the love for your kitchenaid is like no other ;)

I'm thinking I like the sound of a flexi beater too.....

I think this quiche is going to make me spend money....darn kitchen implements and cookery book obsession.

ariadneoliver · 15/03/2012 20:41

Wow. How come I missed the flex beater? It looks great.

Stase I've been lucky. I chose the grey matte colour and I have never regretted it. It wasn't my top favourite at the time but I thought it would go with just about any colour scheme I was ever likely to have.
