I'm going to order attachments from the US amazon site because they'll ship to the UK and there's no difference. I'm waiting for some vouchers before I order though

Damn it! He's just come back with, 'but you bought a brand new car last month!' God, that was low! Grin

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 17:25

we make pasta with hand-cranked machine quite often, but it is a two person job - hence the desire for KA attachment.

Does anyone have this? or this? (both also on my wishlist)

Kellamity · 15/03/2012 17:26

And is it nicer than shop bought pasta?

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 17:27

I want that shape press, soo £££ tho.

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 17:28

Yes def a LOT nicer. It harder to cook though cos it can all stick together, I tend to hang it all out on the clothes airer to dry it out before I cook it. Then when it's cooked I drain and them stir through some olive oil.

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 17:29

Kellamity - homemade pasta, once you get it right, is way nicer than shop-bought. Not that we don't still buy tons of pasta, since my DC are as someone once put it "pasta based lifeforms" but the homemade stuff is in a different league.

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 17:30

I mainly wanted to make my own for the versatility to make my own tortelini, so i can make venison, crab, etc. but it expanded to making our own spaghetti and tagliatelle as it is that much nicer than shop bought. It melts in the mouth, not rubbery like shop.

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 17:30

Chops - pasta drier

Jins · 15/03/2012 17:31

162 dollars on amazon.com

Works out at £147 including shipping to the UK

yeah, i do keep meaning to buy one, but it's money I don't NEED to spend, and I make extra extra long spaghetti - sometimes 4 ft long, so clothes horse is better!

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 17:33

I didn't even know you could buy from amazon.com! Thing is, won't you get stung for duty charges too?

sybilvimes · 15/03/2012 17:35

I want to join, I got this thing of beauty for christmas.

I do love it much more than a kitchen appliance should be loved. It's a bit worrying really how much pleasure I get from just looking at it. It also makes ace chocolate/raisin brownies...

Kellamity · 15/03/2012 17:35

V nice Sybil welcome Wink

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 17:36

I think you would (get stung for duty) - especially as it is a 3rd party seller, not Amazon.

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 17:37

John Lewis have the roller for £78 - seriously tempted.

wem · 15/03/2012 17:41

Before I set my heart on expensive bit of kit just because all the cool kids have one, could someone tell me why it's so good? I have a magimix, what difference would it make?

Honeydragon · 15/03/2012 17:55

Snobs Grin

Are the tips and recipes on the Wood Pussies thread not good enough for you?

I have Tiger rolls in my oven now and am awaiting the outcome to post on here if they are good, but I sharnt share now

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 18:00

I have a magi mix as well. A magic mix is a processor, it's good for chopping, grating, purée ing, etc. it's NOT a stand mixer. A stand mixer is great for baking, mostly. If you love making cakes or bread, you NEED a kitchenaid.

That ice blue is gorgeous, Sybil!

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 18:02

Stealth, go onnnnn!

Kellamity · 15/03/2012 18:03

Do you all use your KitchenAid recipe book? I haven't used mine yet but might have a look through tonight when DCs are in bed!

wem · 15/03/2012 18:03

I suspected as much. I don't think I'll be acquiring one anytime soon tho Sad

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 18:07

I use the one that came with the pasta attachment for pasta, but not really looked at the other one.

I've been working my way through the Hummingbirds bakery book for cakes. They come out wonderfully light with a kitchenaid. For bread I get Canadian bread flour from waitrose and use e recipe on the back of that. I rathere like chucking in those mini wrights packets too, all read premixed ingredients.

Bought a ginger cake one recently and that was lovely, especially after I made a ginger icing to drizzle over it - nice and quick for supper.

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 18:07

I hate typing on an iPad!

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 18:09

Wem, I got mine on amazon black Friday sale, 2010, they usually reduce them. I think selfridges have a sale on them too. My BIL got his from there, though I think he mainly uses it for chapatis.

Chapatis and naan are great in it too btw! I've stopped buying either now, so I reckon in the long run, the kitchen aid will pay for itself Grin
