Eh? Sal,how can that possible put you off when you eat the crap you do?? (Sorry love, but blunt words are called for.)Mackeral are free wild creatures, having a life unlike so much other stuff.

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:10

Nowt more grungy than cod - they do eat crap, and most have some sort of worm infestation. Hope that hasn't put you off pure, tasty, 100% prime fillet blah de blah cod fingers (thats why I do haddock - ask any Grimsby-ite, they all prefer haddock)

At the risk of upsetting the food police I think Good fish fingers are fine and a very useful emergency food for the freezer. Always a hit with a few beans and Im sure there are far worse things you can feed a kid. Mine have now graduated onto Waitrose cod portions as I was trying to get them to eat something that is more like proper fish and they really like these too. PS my professor of nutrition at uni said people round the world can live live on almost anything providing they get enough to eat!

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:12

baked Mackerel with chilli, ginger and spring onion - sigh, Thai heaven.

LOL Treefuses

Hmmm, cod i bought the other day had a live parasite wiggling in it.
Swordfish is the worst fish for infestations apparently.
Of course, with fishfingers, you'll never see the worms as they are just ground up with everything else.

Honestly, can think of no better dinner than grilled mackerel or sardines with salad, bread, wine and fruit.

Fish fingrs are so joyless and functional-I think things like this merely function as carriers for ketchup and mayonnaise.

moondog · 08/12/2005 23:16

Lol at this myth about 'emergency food'
Since when do we ever have an eating crisis in the UK????

elastamum · 08/12/2005 23:16

Emergency food is for when you are really late back from swimming etc trying to referee a fight get homework done and give the monkeys something they will eat quickly. Also I LIKE fish finger sandwiches

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:22

fish finger sandwiches with lashings of ketchup or massive rounds of toast and marmite or peanut butter- staple student late night-soak-up-the booze-at-4am fare.

elastamum · 08/12/2005 23:23

Gosh i'm starting to feel hungry

STEP AWAY FROM THE FREEZER

GingerBearingGifts · 08/12/2005 23:24

I love sardines BBQ'ed on a hot beach with cheap wine and hunks of bread.
I am a....what's the word- contradiction? Cos I love proper fish and scruff's fish too.
