lol moondog - I just think of all the lovely organic meat - those well looked after animals have probably been lying in their fields on top of not only their own shit - but the "wildlife" shit too

moondog · 09/12/2005 17:35

The cows behind my house don't....
Anyway, shit is only as bad as what goes in the other end.
If it's mainly grass then bring it on I say.

moondog · 09/12/2005 17:38

What bothers me is that children get used to food that is very easily masticated. It's practically half digested for God's sake!

Augurs badly for the future as with processed food it is possible to ingest an enormous amount of calories very quickly.

By contrast, would be near impossible to od on fish or shellfish in its original state (although have come damned close on various crustacean splurges.)

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 09/12/2005 17:38

no rabbits or mice round your way then - bet they leave their shit all over those fields

PS - I'm only jealous because I can't afford Organic atm LOL

moondog · 09/12/2005 17:40

Dh (agriculture is his life) says that difference between organic and non organic beef and lamb is tiny so one less thing to worry about.

(How are things btw qoq???)

NannyL · 09/12/2005 19:37

Then theres all the antibotics and growth hormones that they fill non organic meat with...

people wonder why chidlren and getting bigger and starting pubert earlier, and many suggest its down to all these growth hormones that we are indirectly deefing the children that they catch in the food chain!

Give me PROPER cared for organic meat thanks, or else i'll choose the veggy option any time!

And chicken is the one thing i'll NEVER compromise on! Battery farms should be banned and they sooner they are the better!

chipmonkeys37today · 09/12/2005 20:12

When on holiday in Portugal, ds1 asked for fish fingers in a restaurant. The waiter just lokked at him quizzically and said:
"so far as I know, the fish, they don't have fingers!

GingerBearingGifts · 09/12/2005 20:12

Sometimes I can be arsed to cook, other times I can't. I blame PMT.

GingerBearingGifts · 09/12/2005 20:13

I reckon Moondog is really Gordon Ramsey incognito

Glitterygook · 09/12/2005 20:15

I think 100% cod fillet fish fingers are fine and it's the only processed food mine have. I don't buy fish shapes, chicken shapes or any of that stuff. The packet of fish fingers says cod, breadcrumbs - all the other packets have 601 other nasty things in them.

moondog · 09/12/2005 21:43

If someone gave mefishfingers for dinner i would be really depressed.

My nightmare would be to be slumped in front of a huge tv with surround sound on a Saturday night eating something like fishfingers or a cheap pizza, drinking bad wine and watching something like that 'Celebrity' jungle thing.

I'm depressed just thinking about it.....

Mercy · 09/12/2005 21:48

chacun a son gout

moondog · 09/12/2005 21:51

Je suis tout a fait d'accord.
Doigts de poisson???
Non merci!

harpsiheraldangelssing · 09/12/2005 21:57

ker-rist 140 posts about fishfingers
god I love mumsnet
what really p88ses me off moondog while we're on the suject is chidlren's menus. always full of disgusting overpriced crap. why do restaurants think that just because they are serving it to children it can be utter crap?
I usually ask for a half prtion of something off the adult menu. which is what dd1 eats at home anyway, whatever we're having

moondog · 09/12/2005 22:08

I love waving 'kiddy'(Gah,hate that word) menu away imperiously, then hissing into dd's ear
'Right. You're having the chargrilledsquid with chilli sauce whether you like it or not!!!'

lol
(My mother reckoned that they would vaguely try to get my sisters and I intersted in aforementioned menu as it was cheaper but that invariably I would announce (at the age of about 4)
'I think I shall have the trout'

UCM · 10/12/2005 02:44

My nightmare would be sitting around a 95" plasma watching a really interesting documentary without the wine or pizza. Sorry I am honest.

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 10/12/2005 15:54

nannyL - would you like to give me the money to buy all the "perfect" organic meat then?

Quite frankly I can't afford to be paying an extra £2-4 for the meat to feed my family - I'd rather I fed them up a decent, balanced meal with non-organic produce - than feeding them off ready meals, and cr*p.

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 10/12/2005 15:56

Moondog - my DH would be depressed too - they're not exactly filling are they? Well unless you use a whole box of 20 odd to feed a family of 4 - even then you're pushing it

NannyL · 10/12/2005 17:19

HRH! no i wont give you the money (sorry!) but i would rather do without other things than eat meat filled with antibiotics and growth hormones, and i wouldnt eat ready made crap either!

and i refuse to put any of my money in, to fuel this cruel industry!

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 10/12/2005 17:56

You know what?? I'd love to see you put your money where you mouth is - and if you do ever find yourself in a position which we're in ATM actually go completely vegetarian rather than eat non-organic meat (btw I don't buy organic veg either - as I can't afford that - so you'd be really stuffed).

DS2 (2yrs old) favourite part of the meal is the meat - he'll eat pretty much anything, vegetarian or meat - but if when we do have a vegetarian meal he eats very little - regardless of whether all his other 'favourites' are in it.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 10/12/2005 17:59

moondog SNORT at "I think I shall have the trout"
nice work

DissLocated · 10/12/2005 18:26

I've been afraid to click on this thread incase the answer was 'They're full of cr*p and the middle classes aren't buying them anymore' but I now feel validated in my choice of tea time treat for dd.

NannyL · 10/12/2005 19:15

Ok, last post in this one.... i DO put my money where my mouth is!

And was veggy for 7 years, vowing that id only ever eat well cared for meat!

And as for organic I know a family very well, mum on income support cause Dad left etc.... they have 'not a lot', (no car, No TV cause 'cant afford' TV license, and she still gets ONLY organic meat and animal products!!(its just a question of choosing what you want to spend you money on!)

Also say good for you on having children brought up on a diet of PROPER food rather than processed crap shaped into little animals etc, which does seem to be somewhat the minority some times!

WTF is wrong with a 100% cod fillet fish finger? Unless they take the time and effort to reshape the processed crap, you can see that it's proper fish. Of course, I'm sure I can get the breadcrumbs etc and coat some fillets that I've cut up myself but why would I??

Chicken nuggets are a whole different kettle of, er, fish so to speak.
