Nothing wrong with tearing up at the end of a movie, personally the end of this one left me cold but each to their own. However, the film Robin And Marion with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn, scored by John Barry, really does get me going, especially the end of it.

Had No Time To Die been released in October last year, as had been mooted at one point, it would have been very poignant given that the original Bond actor Sean Connery died at the end of that month.

I saw it yesterday, and was gutted. The cinema was silent at the end, save one peeved individual who said. Is that it??!!

My take, sadly, as I really have enjoyed the sexist, misogynistic fiction of it all, is that James Bond has come to an end. I think the 00 status will survive, and the next release will be a new era, on HIS Majesty's secret service. The potential for a lot of stand alone politically correct films with different main characters.

The prospect doesn't thrill me.

KitchenKrisis · 21/10/2021 21:07

Omg Fiennes! Rossiter!!?

PilatesPeach · 22/10/2021 15:50

Just saw it. Sorry but was unmoved. I am the biggest softie going but no even a lump in my throat. It was ok not wow imo.

Like many I’ve grown up with Bond and accept him totally as the highly flawed and actually, quite non likeable character that he is. It’s these reasons that make me think we don't need a black/gay/female Bond, as actually they merit their own character. And actually He is the character Ian Fleming created and he’s a very messed up chap. I think there is writing talent out there to create a female spy character and it would be lazy to just cut and paste. I think Nome had the foundation for a great new character. And Paloma was amazing too.

But yes the film … I was on the whole disappointed. At times it felt like a chick flick and there were too many “all the time in the world “ mentions. Lots of amazing outfits. A few great nods to classic bond that I enjoyed but on the whole it was lazy and felt a bit naff.

And as for killing off Bond 😳 I just don’t know why this was necessary. Except of course to “reboot “ the franchise. Which of course I’m never going to be happy with but that’s me.

And then the ending with the simpering looks in the car. First time I’ve cringed in a Bond movie!

I appreciate I may be over invested 😊

Oh and the Bond will be back thing is at the end of every one.

Noeuf · 25/10/2021 22:38

Just got back. Think I’m at odds with everyone else as I thought it was the biggest pile of crap I’d seen for ages! I knew it would be shit from when the bloke from a outnumbered appeared, it was obvious he’d be poisoned against Madeleine and he looked old enough to be her grandad most of the time. As for killing himself at the end? It was just drivel. Disappointed!

Knackeredmommy · 25/10/2021 23:15

I didn't expect that! Not sure how I feel about such a final ending. As much as I love Bond, a reboot is needed, lets see where they take it. I enjoyed the film.

This comment about it being On His Majesty's Secret Service is sadly likely to be true and a massive, massive thing, nobody on the Bond website I frequent has observed this yet. When Bond was created or thereabouts, Elizabeth was on the throne and she may still be next time round if she lives to Philip's age but wow not a given. It's been a long time...
garlicandsapphires · 01/11/2021 11:11

What are the Bond websites you’re on @NewspaperTaxis?
I saw it last night and LOVED it.
I laughed and cried.
The mosquito reference is bugging me - there must be a reason for it?

garlicandsapphires · 01/11/2021 11:29

My immediate thought was that perhaps we'd see Mathilde take over as the 'new Bond' - but is there anyone left to avenge? I hope we see her as an adult one day.

MenopauseSucks · 01/11/2021 11:40

Quite a few reviews of stage performances by Ralph Fiennes have compared him to Leonard Rossiter.
I saw his Richard III at the Almeida back in 2016 & there was a definite touch of Rigsby about him...

colourmebladd · 03/11/2021 10:30

It definitely said after the credits "JAMES BOND WILL RETURN"

It will be interesting to see how they do it!

@Ionlydomassiveones

Omg - just seen it - weird plot, boring dialogue, the dreariest lead female with no chemistry despite the ‘j’taime’ … a sum total of 15 mins of some spirit of the old Bond with a fabulous ‘Bond girl’ in Cuba but then they fucking kill him off! I’m in shock. You can’t kill Bond. That’s the whole point of him! Yes dump charisma-void Craig but don’t kill Bond. He’s a British institution. Jesus. Shock

Paloma was fantastic, especially keeping her modesty in that dress!!
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 05/11/2021 09:25

God yes, some excellent tape used there I reckon. Actually I think I've a girl crush on Paloma now Grin

I don’t know how really owns the character of James Bond, it’s quite complicated. Casper Fleming , Ian Fleming’s only child died at 23 and there have been a few legal battles over the years.

Sturmundcalm · 06/11/2021 19:13

Ana de Armas was absolutely FABULOUS - has totally inspired me to learn how to do lethal combat in a dress made of tiny bits of silk while pretending to be slightly daft. Lashana Lynch on the other hand was really wasted, I was so disappointed in how they handled that character.

As others have said the main villain's storyline had plot holes you could have driven a double-decker through and was just bizarre. And I found the ending totally meh - I don't think they have killed him off, I think we'll get a reboot, so where is the emotional investment?? If he's not really dead why do we care?

It was very nicely shot and while slightly too long was a pleasant way to spend an evening but really not a great film IMO.

NewspaperTaxis · 10/11/2021 11:16

Sorry @garlicandsapphires I hadn't logged in lately - the Bond website if Absolutely James Bond, but the comment is mentioned there now - because I went and did so!
Some love the film, others hate it. It's a fan website, so it's often like football fans moaning their team isn't in the Champions League and could always be better, while others just go and enjoy the game.

The mosquito thing no one is really sure about, it might be a way of building tension prior to a car chase, a sort of annoying distraction, or it might refer to Safrin's nanobots, a sort of hint at how things can be transmitted. That may have later led to some relevant dialogue that got cut.

Robin233 · 21/11/2021 22:11

^^^
I do hope so.
That ending was pants.
Loved the music though - best Bond music -
(Maybe the nano bots will rebuild him - as a new actor )

roses2 · 30/12/2021 21:35

Went to the cinema tonight to watch this. It was full! So glad I went, such a lovely movie.

ShonkyWonkyDonkey · 31/12/2021 15:00

I believe the original premise of the character was that James Bond was a code name that spies used, so if one died, another would just take over the name. That's why there hasn't been an issue with so many different actors playing the character.
I think the difference with Craig's Bond is that they kept a story arch going through all 5 films, so it felt much more about that particular agents backstop, which I think was rounded off well.
They can still have a James Bond 007, he will be stepping into that spy name already used by his predecessor.

ShonkyWonkyDonkey · 31/12/2021 15:01

Backstop - I mean back story!
