In my view this isn't a film to risk getting Covid for, if that's a factor. Mind you, If you're on this thread you shouldn't be because it explains the main big spoiler. Not much audience reaction at at the afternoon showing at the BFI Imax in Waterloo. Not many laughs or anything.
It's at times a grim, impressive movie - some of the opening scenes had a magnificence and foreboding. But all this spectacle is at odds with the traditional stupidity of the modern Bonds, the plot holes and Craig's Bond making stupid decisions.
To me, it's similar to Brosnan's Die Another Day or Craig's Quantum of Solace - the director simply doesn't have funny bones, no lightness of touch to help you go with the implausibilities.
And the writers had boxed themselves into a corner with the whole Craig story arc and him still harking back to a woman he met maybe for a week or a fortnight over 10 years ago. When they make the point that his Bond is a damaged, unhappy bloke, they're not wrong.
I could have walked out not far from the end because I didn't want to risk getting Covid for a film I didn't enjoy but stayed because I wanted to see how it was going (I had my suspicions) and certainly didn't want to fork out for it again.
