We’ll…that was bloody good!

I saw it this morning and loved it. Yes it was a bit predictable at the end but the time flew. Daniel Craig’s shoes are massive for the next person to try and fill.

randomuseragain · 03/10/2021 15:54

Thought it was good but don't understand where they'll go from that ending, what does a complete reboot mean? I'm sure the mosquito bit had some hidden significance but I can't figure it out. I also think the trope of having a disfigured villain is severely dated and untenable in 2021.

randomuseragain · 03/10/2021 15:56

Just googled the symbolism of mosquitos. So mosquitos bite to feed their young, the bite is a small agitation to ensure the survival of their family. Possible foreshadowing of Bond 'dying' to ensure the survival of his family?

Re-boot like Spider-Man has been. Different actors, whole casts actually and the story doesn’t follow on. It’s like the older ones never happened.

I can’t see how this can follow on. I mean surely M would lose his job after all it was M who started the whole DNA thing.

Mumsnut · 03/10/2021 16:00

Wonder if it's setting something up for the next film? An implant of some kind ?

itsgettingwierd · 03/10/2021 16:13

Saw it this morning.

Ds is a big bond film fan and I loved the earlier ones as a child but have to admit to not seeing the other DC films - ds has watched them all.

I really enjoyed it. Loved how it had old school Bond scenes but without the sleeze!

Did turn to ds a the end and ask "have they actually just killed James Bond?!"

I also think James Bond has ended. But not 007 as a character and therefore more films will appear.

Singerleon · 03/10/2021 16:50

I saw it last night and adored it! Can’t get it out of my head. Just loved how it was shot, the locations, the cars… just everything. How they used All the time in the world …
I want to see it again!

BestIsWest · 03/10/2021 17:00

I thought the scenery was spectacular but the film itself was much too long. I’d given up caring by 3/4 of the way through. I did like Paloma though.

brokenbiscuitsx · 03/10/2021 17:41

The mood around me in the cinema was completely flat. We were a party of 8, none of us was crying, just deflated. No one around us clapped or was crying as far as I could see, just shrugging their shoulders and feeling cheated.

That was us, DP and I just looked at each other in silence then sort of shrugged. Was a bit meh.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/10/2021 17:51

I thought it was fantastic. To me Daniel Craig has been the most like the Bond in the books. There's a sensative side to Bond the others haven't even come close too.

IglesiasPiggl · 03/10/2021 18:05

I enjoyed all the action scenes but felt they could have wound it up a bit quicker in the second half. The private island was all a bit Thunderbirds, and like a PP, I too was annoyed at Dr Swann's inappropriate footwear 😂 Daniel definitely looking a bit old and jaded compared with when he started but I still love him as Bond.

BlowDryRat · 03/10/2021 18:24

I can't decide whether I liked it or not. We saw him being blown up as the missiles hit so he's definitely dead and, just, how dare they? James Bond doesn't die! He goes off on an alcoholic bender on a beach somewhere and re-emerges to save the world another day.

PeppermintMocha · 03/10/2021 19:04

Yes I too thought the mosquito chat meant that Mathilde was somehow affected by Heracles already. If Madeleine's father had been in Spectre, somehow she could have been distantly actually related to some of the other people in it perhaps, and the nanobots were programmed to find some genetic feature that she might have had and thus Mathilde too. And as Mathile was smaller ,I thought maybe it was a tiny infection or something. But it wasn't to be.

We left just thinking 'what?' surely he survives somehow, he always does. And wondering how the next films would deal with him coming back. Because it is too lucrative an enterprise to kill him off totally.

I noticed Madeleine's footwear too, thought it looked ridiculous in the situation, nice as the shoes might have been.

Did Madeleine have a sister at the beginning in the remote lake-house, who was shot too?

I thought it was a little lacking in plot, despite some promising ideas, and a bit too heavy on all the chases and shoot outs and so on. I always get a bit lost in those as to what is happening and who is killed or not, and am just waiting for the fall out to find out how the plot will go on .

ToykotoLosAngeles · 03/10/2021 19:04

It's fairly easy to reboot. In Casino Royale DC was about 36 and early on in his career, so if you hire someone else in their 30s you do what is basically an origin story.

We've had 2 Batmans since Christian Bale's Batman had a very definite ending.

KillingMeDeftly · 03/10/2021 19:07

Madeleine's shoes are by Church's and I suspect they paid for product placement. There were also a few too many closeups of her white handbag in the opening action sequence so I wondered about that too!

Mumsnut · 03/10/2021 19:24

It was a very cute handbag though

Mumsnut · 03/10/2021 19:37

I reckon they will want to keep the Q/M/Nomi/Moneypenny team together, so they need a new Bond who will implant with them.

If Bond has fathered one child, he could have fathered another (heaven knows there is no condom unwrapping in any of the films).

What say Jinx (Halle Berry) being Rege-Jean Page's mum ?

I loved all her outfits, especially the cream jeans, white tank and black belt combo 😊
KillingMeDeftly · 03/10/2021 20:06

@brokenbiscuitsx Moneypenny had some killer (no pun intended) ensembles too!

KillingMeDeftly · 03/10/2021 20:08

@Mumsnut Your scenario is entirely plausible. Halle Berry is old enough to be RGP's mum despite only looking all of 35 herself!

mizu · 03/10/2021 20:10

We saw it this afternoon. I loved it and thought DC was fab in it. Fab women and great scenery. Too much shooting for me and the ending was a bit too much - no more James Bond Shock

I keep thinking he's just found out he's got a daughter and Madeline is back and now he's gone! Too sad!

KillingMeDeftly · 03/10/2021 20:27

I guess he felt he had nothing left to live for if he's basically become a walking biological weapon. Not only would he be unable to ever touch them but he'd pass Heracles on to anyone he came into contact with, and so on. At least I think that's how it worked!

Mumsnut · 03/10/2021 20:31

Any of the Bond 'girls' could be a putative mum. Maybe Bond has have a son in SMERSH, and Moneypenny et al could lure him over to the right side!

LarryVeest · 03/10/2021 21:18

Just seen it, and loved it!

On a very superficial note, I loved their all clothes. Everything looked so pleasingly robust. Madeleine in particular managed to look sort of cosy and alluring at the same time. And to be particularly specific, I was transfixed by her white vest.. she must have been wearing a bra, bit absolutely no sign of straps or anything digging in.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/10/2021 23:40

I enjoyed it. There were quite a few nods to the old bond films and IIRC "we have all the time in the world" was originally used in OHMSS where Bond's wife was killed.
DC was a good Bond and this was a fine send off for him.

I am interested to know how they will bring the character back but I am sure they will find a way.
