In your opinion, which roles were miscast?

I’ll start off with musicals:

Russell Crowe in Les Miserables
Piers Brosnan in Mamma Mia

I don’t think their singing was strong enough. There were enough star names so I wished the producers had been braver and cast unknowns who could act and sing.

Posted too soon... with the original stage cast of Julie Andrews, Richard Burton and Robert Goulet , although Franco Nero ( who didn’t do his own singing) was very handsome, soo handsome that he and Redgrave had a son together, Carlo in 1969, broke up and then married in 2006.
As much as I love Audrey Hepburn ,she looked beautiful and her acting was good as Eliza in My Fair Lady, but Julie Andrews really should have been in the film.

“ No, Kate’s far too mature and sensible. Renee has that confused innocence that makes her so funny to watch. I dont associate Kate with humour (although I’m sure she can be funny given the right circumstances).”

I actually love RW as Bridget and Kate never would’ve crossed my mind. I don’t Particularly associate her with humour either but when I think of her character in The Holiday I can more easily picture her as Bridget. That’s the only role I can think of that actually that makes easier for me to see her as Bridget

@ThatLibraryMiss - I refuse to even consider that abomination. WHY? JUST WHY? It's ridden roughshod over beautifully created and written characters for 'tick box' pointless reasons.

The whole POINT of Cheery Littlebottom ox people not knowing she's female. The only giant dwarf is Carrot - who we all know isn't a dwarf.

Angua is gorram Werewolf not the tooth fairy.

Sybil Vimes is 'a galleon in full sail' NOT a pedalo.

Don't get me started on female Vetinari, Dibber & Cruces being women. There's no 'well, why shouldn't they be?' to this. Because the characters are MALE in the books.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhh! And breathe.

Change17 · 13/08/2020 18:16

I can’t put my finger on why, and she’s actually one of my favourite actresses, but Anne Hathaway in Interstellar always felt a little out of place to me.

thebatman · 13/08/2020 18:16

@LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE

So... Highlander...

Where Sean Connery plays a Spanish man but doesn't bother to even try a Spanish accent.

An American, Christopher Lambert, plays the Scottish lead, with THE WORST Scottish accent in cinema history.

However I still love it because of The Kurgan 😁

Actually, Ramirez is Egyptian, not Spanish, just to make things worse, and if you think CL's Scottish accent is the worst in cinema history I can only assume you've never seen Brigadoon.

Maria Bello as Evelyn O'Connell in the Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Tom Hardy as Shinzen in Star Trek Nemesis

I’ve never seen the 3rd mummy movie. Why did Rachel Weisz not continue her role as Evelyn ?

I wish the most recent movie Cats wasn't CGI'D to death, I wish they all wore costumes like Grizabella and Deuteronomy.

I'm not a fan of CGI at the best of times so to have a whole movie of CGI was just too much for me and they all looked weird.

Now I've seen it 10 times I can cope with it but the first time I saw it I nearly walked out of the cinema!

iklboo · 13/08/2020 18:41

Where Sean Connery plays a Spanish man but doesn't bother to even try a Spanish accent.

Well to be fair he'd sound like a really bad 'Allo 'Allo parody if he did. Grin

ednakenneth · 13/08/2020 18:46

Totally agree about Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham carter. Olivia's real accent kept coming through and Helena is too weird. Claire foye was brilliant and could keep the accent going.

mumoftinyterrors · 13/08/2020 18:55

Leonardo Di Caprio in Titanic. He looked far too young against Kate Winslet’s Rose.

namechangedasscared · 13/08/2020 18:57

@Jojoanna

Leonardo DiCaprio as jack in titanic , he looked to young for Kate Winslet
I’d argue then the miscasting was Kate Winslet. Rose was supposed to be 17. She looked much older!
Enterthedragons · 13/08/2020 18:58

Emma Watson as belle in Beauty and the Beast, terrible. Alicia Vikander would have been perfect.

Joistlooking · 13/08/2020 19:03

Agree with Florence Pugh and Timothee Chamalet in Little Women and add Johnny Flynn in Emma - too young, too blond.

Imnotahugger · 13/08/2020 19:03

@Mommabear20

Everyone in twilight 😂
Couldn’t agree more
SkaraBrae · 13/08/2020 19:13

Re Jack Reacher. Tom Cruise bought the rights and, to no-one's surprise, insisted on playing the lead.
I remember the author being initially v diplomatic about the whole thing.
Poor guy wrote all those books and ended up having no say on any of the casting.

Other book- Hunger Games.
I enjoyed the films but the 2 male leads were physically the exact match for the characters they didn't play.

SJ2703 · 13/08/2020 19:23

Brenda Blethyn in Vera

Ken1976 · 13/08/2020 19:30

Everyone in Mama Mia . Bloody awful film .

Violinist64 · 13/08/2020 19:34

I agree with Florence Pugh as Amy in Little Women. Amy is a rather silly twelve year old girl at the start of the story so would be expected to have a high, light voice. Florence Pugh had rather a rasping voice like a smoker's (obviously l have no idea whether or not she smokes) which does not fit in with this. Even at the end of the story when she is around twenty l think she would still have a fairly light voice.

SpangleSparkle · 13/08/2020 19:35

Jodie Whittaker in Dr Who
The really creepy guy who played the Joker in suicide squad (still gives me the stomach sickness when I think of him)
Tom Cruise as Reacher, he’s too short and not rugged enough

SpangleSparkle · 13/08/2020 19:37

Oh and the awful guy in Mamma Mia 2 who couldn’t sing a note and I actually walked out of the movie rather than listen to him. He was the young man who sung one of the first songs so I watched all of 10 minutes of that one

thelongwayhome · 13/08/2020 19:43

I think both Peeta and Katniss were miscast in the films. I read the books at least a dozen times each and they were always described as being young looking, children, small. It's not a big deal as I still think the acting was good but it's a shame. I remember my illustrated cover, Katniss looked absolutely tiny on it!

Scatterlingsofafrica · 13/08/2020 20:03

Definitely Andie McDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Almost ( but not quite ) ruined the film for me.

Shony · 13/08/2020 20:30

For me it was Mad Eye Moody in HP. Should have been Billy Connolly.

whitechocolatespaceegg · 13/08/2020 20:35

Nicholas Cage.

As anyone in anything. The most awful actor. So wooden.
