I'm looking for knock-your-socks off romance - bonus points if it's available on prime! Any recommendations?

It's a bit old school but I adore 'Shall We Dance' with Fred and Ginger!

Or 'My Best Friend's Wedding' not exactly romantic but a brilliant film in my opinion.

true romance

minsmum · 11/08/2018 20:02

Benny and Joon

affectionincoldclimate · 11/08/2018 20:16

The English Patient

MorvaanReed · 11/08/2018 20:24

Practical magic, while you were sleeping and Always.

Another vote for Last of the Mohicans and Benny and Jon.

BitOfFun · 11/08/2018 23:48

I've just watched Zoe on Prime. Thoughtful and romantic meditation on the nature of love and humanity.

Plimmy · 11/08/2018 23:59

Casablanca.

Brief Encounter.

Love Story.

Any half-decent film about frustrated love or love cut short. Such powerful emotions.

cinders15 · 12/08/2018 00:21

I loved The Lake House - 2 people falling in love through different times - with Sandra Bullock and I think Keanu Reeves?

Also Sliding Doors - John Hannah and Gwyneth Paltrow - what would happen if you missed that tube ....

soloula · 12/08/2018 00:39

Life is Beautiful - a proper film of two halves but a really beautiful love story in a really harrowing setting.

Another vote for An Affair to Remember "I was looking up, it was the nearest thing to heaven, you were there." Gets me every time (and I've watched it a lot).

I also love Doctor Zhivago.

The holiday

Unobtainable · 13/08/2018 16:32

TheLongestRide
TheEnglishPatient
OutofAfrica
TheLuckyOne

Anything by NicholasSparks basically. Beautiful to look at. Some are tear-jerkers though The NoteBook

MessageInABottle is romantic too.

BrokeBackMountain isn't romantic in my opinion just very sad. God Heath Ledger was beautiful.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/08/2018 16:46

The Notebook. Even men cry at that.

Mrsmadevans · 13/08/2018 17:18

The new Star is Born looks good, out in October:

Crocodile Dundee always has me in tears.

TwistedStitch · 09/09/2018 15:26

Have just watched God's Own Country on Netflix and was coming onto this thread to recommend it but I can see it's already been mentioned. One of the most mesmerising, beautiful and romantic films I've ever seen.

Robin2323 · 10/09/2018 07:43

Pretty woman
Eon Flex

lucysnowe · 10/09/2018 07:59

Yy for Gods Own Country & The Shop Around the Corner!

Also...Return to Me (cute overlooked 90s romcom), I Know Where I'm Going! (super hot), Springtime in Park Lane, The Ghost and Mrs Muir

MotherOfDragons27 · 20/09/2018 00:33

Never been kissed
Sliding doors
The proposal

umpteennamechanges · 20/09/2018 00:53

Another vote here for Before Sunrise and the other two films in the series. I'm going to have to watch them again!

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 20/09/2018 00:59

About Time always gets me

theluckiest · 22/09/2018 18:47

A film I ended up watching late one night - The Painted Veil.

No one I know has ever heard of it let alone watched it!! Ed Norton and Naomi Watts are a terribly repressed upper class couple in the 1920s - she has a fling so to 'punish' her, he makes them both decamp to China as missionaries as he's a doctor.

To cut a long story short, she starts off hating him but they then begin to fall in love...god, it's so romantic and sad and the landscapes are stunning.

Give it a watch!!

ScarlettSahara · 22/09/2018 19:44

You’ve probably seen it but love Jane Eyre- have always preferred meeting of the minds type films.

NoProbLlama78 · 22/09/2018 19:49

Wall E.
Bonnie and Clyde
