I'm looking for knock-your-socks off romance - bonus points if it's available on prime! Any recommendations?

Before Sunrise
Singles
In the Mood for Love

Another vote for “Some Kind of Wonderful” - an 80s teen rom com, which features the best kiss in cinema history.

Baz Lurhman’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Especially when that first meet before they’ve even exchanged words with each other.

The Notebook

The Station Agent

@froodledoodle

I came on to say Now, Voyager too. Love that film.

YY to Sense and Sensibility! Also Casablanca. (Unoriginal suggestion, sorry!)

Not a 'film' as such, but a video of a 1984 live performance from La Monnaie which I watched last night: José van Dam as The Flying Dutchman. Such atmospheric music and staging, and one of the great love stories. It's on youtube:

Ooh Some Kind of Wonderful is very good and has also made me think of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe. Both starting Mary Stuart Masterson in tomboy roles.

MrsChollySawcutt · 04/08/2018 18:09

And another for me - Shining Through starting Melanie Griffiths and Michael Douglas as a pair of spies infiltrating a Nazi SS Commanders home in war torn Germany.

And Working Girl, another Melanie Griffiths movie this time with a young and beautiful Harrison Ford.

Jerry McGuire.
The lost boys

Another vote for The Way We Were.

""You expect too much from me"
"Oh, but look what I've got".

Gets me every time

Bit left field but what about Betty Blue?

JAPAB · 05/08/2018 02:34

Would The Adjustment Bureau count? Think the leads have good chemistry anyway.

drigon · 05/08/2018 02:41

Shadowlands is lovely but heartbreakingly sad.

parklives · 10/08/2018 11:52

Much ado about nothing, I love the chemistry/banter between Emma T and Kenneth B

The Notebook

JustLikeBefore · 11/08/2018 18:23

I just remembered a really cheesy, it so bad it's great rom com.

But I love it, it's got Martin Kemp in. It's called Day Dream Believer, or it's also known as The Girl Who Came Late.

......and it has horses inGrin

LlamaPyjamas · 11/08/2018 18:27

Before Sunrise (and both of the sequels). So sad and romantic it makes me upset just thinking about it.

QuietNinjaTardis · 11/08/2018 18:36

I know it’s crap but I have a soft spot for 50 first dates too. Also Stardust and 10 things I hate about you. Forrest Gump while not technically a love story does make me cry every time when he’s talking to her grave.

Branleuse · 11/08/2018 18:43

Natural Born Killers

PrivateParkin · 11/08/2018 18:47

The Shop Around the Corner - the sweetest, most romantic film ever, with a young Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan sparking brilliantly off each other. You've Got Mail was based on it.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 11/08/2018 18:59

For romance I love Falling In Love with Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro. Beautifully acted and must have been magic to have me rooting for two adulterers!

I also loved Atonement.

Have saved some of the other suggestions to a list myself!

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 11/08/2018 19:00

I also enjoyed a movie about a couple who hook up and she takes the morning after pill. They then spend the day together (i think because he’s waiting for her to take the second pill or something!). Sounds terrible but it was actually really lovely Grin

Haggisfish · 11/08/2018 19:05

I also love before sunrise and sequels and baz’s Romeo and Juliet. Fried green tomatoes at...is good too.

Vitalogy · 11/08/2018 19:06

Something a bit different I really liked, Charlie Countryman:

Baubletrouble43 · 11/08/2018 19:12

Last of the mohicans

MinesABabyGuiness · 11/08/2018 19:24

Fools rush in. Love that film.
