I'm looking for knock-your-socks off romance - bonus points if it's available on prime! Any recommendations?

@SergeantPfeffer I studied Strictly Ballroom for my GCSEs a long time ago! What a great film, haven't though about it for ages.

The African Queen.

Shrek 2.

The honeymoon is literally over, and the relationship becomes strained with the realities of everyday life (disapproving ILs, an annoying talking donkey). But they're both willing to change to save ther marriage - Shrek turns himself into a handsome prince, while Fiona is prepared to walk away from her family and kingdom to join Shrek in the swamp. In doing so, they realise that they love each other as they are, warts and all.

Atonement

Top Gun

Goose dying is one of the most traumatic things I have seen on film.

MrsEricBana · 02/08/2018 09:06

The Notebook hands down for me. Also a film by same writer called The Longest Ride.

loveka · 02/08/2018 09:07

Moonstruck is wonderful.

The Notebook

Truly Madly Deeply

Forkrightorf · 02/08/2018 09:34

I don't actually think I've seen The Notebook which is strange for someone who likes soppy films as much as I do. I'll make sure I get around to it. Thanks for all the suggestions, lots of new ones that I haven't heard of.

Lost in Translation.
Although I was Angry and Shock when fil described it as a romcom, it’s wistfully romantic.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:46

I want to say Peggy sue got married but I've not seen it for 20 years!

In retrospect I think it's probably a bit sad.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:47

I watched lost in translation and didn't get it? Where was the romance? Have a feeling it went over my head as it was billed as fab and I was ??? !

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:48

Brokeback mountain is incredibly upsetting. Really good film though.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:48

Room with a view?

Maurice?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/08/2018 09:49

Maurice is an ace book.

Scenes in a Room With A View : the music makes it for me.

Also Bas Luhrmann Romeo and Juliet in the ball scene, again I like the music.

For full films : anything with Fred Astaire in. Ginger was pretty good on her own in Kitty Foyle, a romantic drama that I love.

Modern films don't compare because they have cynicism where the soul should be.

Peppapogstillonaloop · 02/08/2018 10:06

I Love an affair To remember.. and brief encounter,
Netflix seem to have a ton of more modern romcoms

Vitalogy · 02/08/2018 14:56

Also a film by same writer called The Longest Ride. Yes it was good wasn't it. Have you seen The Best of Me? Nickolas Sparks as well, although I liked the alternative ending better. I think I've seen all of the Nickolas Sparks ones, I liked the story of Dear John but couldn't get on with the actors.

I was watching Out of Africa again yesterday, oow the beautiful scenery and music.

MotherOfDragons27 · 03/08/2018 11:40

Moulin rouge

Thirtyrock39 · 03/08/2018 11:50

I was also going to say truly madly deeply

Thirtyrock39 · 03/08/2018 11:52

Broke back mountain is brilliant but not what I'd go to for a romance it's pretty harrowing

shartsi · 03/08/2018 11:54

Another vote for the Notebook. Also fools rush in.
