I'm looking for knock-your-socks off romance - bonus points if it's available on prime! Any recommendations?

Another vote for One Day.
I also love the film "A Lot like Love", which hardly ever get mentioned on these threads. I watch it every few years and am amazed it wasn't more successful.

Roussette · 03/08/2018 12:28

I echo Bridges of Madison County.

It is so so sad yet beautiful.

MrsChollySawcutt · 03/08/2018 14:28

If you like old movies, try Waterloo Bridge - Vivien Leigh is a ballerina down on her luck during WW2, she meets her true love during an air raid but will they get a happy ending??

Bring tissues, lots of of tissues...

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/08/2018 15:46

Oddly I also watched an old film today, "Splendid in the grass", I really enjoyed it and had a wee sniffle at the end

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/08/2018 15:47

Ffs.
"Splendor in the grass"
Auto correct.

MrsChollySawcutt · 03/08/2018 16:06

Ooh I love Splendour in the Grass but agree it's a very sad movie. I always that neither of them got what they really wanted -each other.

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/08/2018 16:16

Yes.
I also found it interesting to see what the USA was like in the 20's.
I can't imagine the UK was anything like that.
(I've been meaning to watch it for years because of the Judy Blume book, Deenie)

Vitalogy · 03/08/2018 16:30

I also love the film "A Lot like Love", which hardly ever get mentioned on these threads I like that one too. Naked moonlit photo Smile

JustLikeBefore · 03/08/2018 19:06

Sky hasn't got some these mentioned that I fancy watching or they are buy or rent Sad

Another vote for One day, though.

pantosaurus · 03/08/2018 19:32

Come to think of it One Day and A Lot Like Love have a similar basic premise, a love story told over many years of meetings between a couple at various stages in their lives. I'm home alone tonight and off to see if I can get one of them to watch. Thanks for the thread OP.

God's Own Country beats Brokeback Mountain into a cocked hat. True romance, not just between the main characters but between the filmmaker and the countryside. I was in bits by the end (totally in a good way)

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/08/2018 21:09

OMG Maggie, I adore that film, no one I know has seen it.

Chuggachuggatoottoot · 03/08/2018 21:19

I like the 60's film 'Barefoot in the Park'

Viviennemary · 03/08/2018 21:21

I couldn't think of one right away. But certainly Sleepless in Seattle was the one I'd choose. Just so willing for them to meet up.

TheGruffalo30 · 03/08/2018 21:27

Pretty woman

Safe haven

The longest ride

Dear John

Graphista · 03/08/2018 21:52

The proposal.
Life as we know it.
The abyss - but nobody agrees with me on that one, it's the scene where Virgil is resuscitating Lindsay gets me.
About time - great film.
10 things I hate about you.
Some kind of wonderful
Bed of roses - but could be triggering for some.
The wedding date.
Up close and personal.
One fine day.

Shosha1 · 03/08/2018 22:01

@Forkrightorf. I have no idea how many times I have watched all three series.

I have the books too, in Hardback, Kindle and Audio 😂

Roll on November for season 4 🤗

jellybeanteaparty · 03/08/2018 22:07

Julia and Julia - about food but also a film about couples already together that stay in love!!!

Vitalogy · 04/08/2018 04:17

OMG Maggie, I adore that film, no one I know has seen it Doesn't sound much like a romance in the write up, is it though?

I like the 60's film 'Barefoot in the Park' Yes I like that one too, funny as well.

ragged · 04/08/2018 04:39

After reading this, I'm not sure what 'Romantic' means any more.
I think I prefer funny romances, so Some Like it Hot or Harold & Maude are my kind of romance (must get DC to watch SLiH, sometime.
