If you've seen it, come here!

I m a bit sad about there being no more related characters. Dd thinks the kid at the end is a relative of Obi but I can't see how.

Loved the ending with Luke but I was surprised all the old guard have now gone.

Hated the hamster like creatures. It feels like R2D2 was 'cute' so they try to include 'cute' in the films.

Was obvious Kylo Ren and the killing of his enemy.

SouthWestmom · 17/12/2017 09:01

Actually Snoke going down so quickly by Kylo was a bit weird . Rey couldn't battle him so how did Kylo?

Agree Re Luke - had he just exhausted himself? Was that it before he died? Do they hate Hamill and want him out of the films?

OP posts:
Dozer · 17/12/2017 09:13

Snoke was a crap character and needed to go to make kylo the big baddie.

Luke skywalker needed to make rey the big goodie.

RJnomore1 · 17/12/2017 09:19

I might be wrong about snoke but I thought it was that he thought he was indefeatable because he could see people's intentions... but kylo either had a bit more training to mask some things or understood the limit to what snoke could see so could let him see he planned to kill his enemy, and snoke arrogance made him think that was Rey not him leaving him exposed?

I wish we knew a bit more about where he came from but I guess there's a Disney origins film in there 😕

ButtMuncher · 17/12/2017 09:30

I really need to see it again. There is just so much that seems so incoherent and I don't know whether it's me or the film. I've never felt that way about SW before, even the prequels had a direction. The pacing was weird and I felt like I watched two films.

NormHonal · 17/12/2017 09:43

I felt like it could have ended before they landed on Crait and left more uncertainty about the rest of the plot.

The last scene with the child felt like it could have been the end of the entire saga. i.e. the fight between the rebels and the dark side will continue, but whilst there is repression there is the hope of a new rebellion.

Eightbelles · 17/12/2017 10:34

It was ok. Its starting to feel like beating a dead horse though to be honest. I am beginning to dread the next 3 films after the final one in this trilogy.

It was too long. It got to one point and I thought 'oh good its over now' and then it just carried on for another half an hour.

Will they be using CGI to kill off Leia now too since she's still alive in the films? They had a good opportunity to kill her off and wasted it. Think its either CGI next or just have a funeral and have someone say she died of her injuries. Bit of a waste for Leia really.

I find it odd that Rotten Tomatoes critics have given it 93%, and yet the public have given it 57%. Usually a bit closer than that, kind of thinking maybe some critics have been paid off considering there are a lot of plot problems, problems with humour etc. Cant see how they can find it that brilliant.

My favourite film of the year is still Murder on the Orient Express, followed by the recent Spiderman film.

RJnomore1 · 17/12/2017 10:35

There's another trilogy to come?

Oh ffs.

Dozer · 17/12/2017 10:54

ANother trilogy?!

Eightbelles · 17/12/2017 11:04

Yeah sorry to break the news. I dunno what its about though. Theres supposed to be spin off films too about like Obi Wan and other characters, I think people want a Wookie film too. But I dunno if thats what the trilogy will be about or if its another story.

PerfectlyDone · 17/12/2017 11:11

Yeah, it's really not going well for the rebels.

Another trilogy?!
Well, I'm out, I think.

They will need to suck a whole new generation in because even DSs are now getting a bit jaded.

FlaviaAlbia · 17/12/2017 11:15

I loved it. It was a bit long in a couple of places though. On one hand it was a shame the Finn/Rose plot came to a dead end but it did let them get on board to bring Phasma into it for showdown between her and Finn. Plus I quite like long odds heroic endeavors failing sometimes to show its not inevitable that the good guys will win.

Did you notice the Jedi books in the drawer that Finn gets the blanket from? So Rey stole them before leaving the island and Luke didn't know they weren't there when Yoda did his lightening job.

FlaviaAlbia · 17/12/2017 11:18

I wished they'd do a Rogue Squadron spin off following the Michael Stackpole and Aaron Alston books but I think itwould be impossible to fit in with the plot now. I was so annoyed when it was announced they weren't canon.

Eightbelles · 17/12/2017 11:18

Just read that the new trilogy is going to be made by the guy who directed this star wars film. He's been given the green light for it without even having a story for it, so it may suck. He says he wants it to be about something new in Star wars, new places, characters, storyline, the works. So nothing that we've previously seen in the last soon to be 9 films (10 if you count Rogue One).

BagelGoesWalking · 17/12/2017 11:25

For Adam Driver fans, he's also in a film called Paterson. www.theguardian.com/film/2016/nov/24/paterson-review-adam-driver-jim-jarmusch

Went to see it last night, thought it was too long, didn't mind occasional overacting, but was disappointed to see that Rey's character didn't really develop. It all felt a bit disjointed, with three separate storylines going on : Rey/Ren, Poe & the rebels, Finn/Rose.

I'd also heard that there were good jokes and humour but there wasn't really enough, I felt. The Force Awakens was much, much better. Rogue One was better than this too. A shame.

christmastits · 17/12/2017 13:21

According to IMDb so who knows how reliable it is..

Mark hamil said 'I fundamentally disagree with all the choices and directions you've chosen for this character, you're going to need to give me some time to get my head round it, get over it and try and give my best for you.'

Some time and a few $$$$.

"Oh look, changed my mind!" 🤑🤑🤑

ButchyRestingFace · 17/12/2017 14:14

Another trilogy?!

Yeah, Jyn and Cassian made it off Scarif after all, if a touch sunburnt.

christmastits · 17/12/2017 15:47

@ButchyRestingFace totally agree!

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 17/12/2017 16:14

Really don't understand how it got such good reviews.
Because reviews are bought. Not in the conventional sense of ‘here’s £50 now right a good review, but in the sense of there being big review screenings which is made into a big event. I am willing to bet money that if a critic gave it a poor review then they wouldn’t get invited to review any more films by Disney / Fox.

badbadhusky · 17/12/2017 20:06

We’ve seen it. It left DH and I a bit underwhelmed. We didn’t enjoy it as much as The Force Awakens and we’ve spent the evening trying to work out why.

Stuff we liked:

  • Rey and Ren’s telekinetic chit chat - as DS2 said “just like on the iPhone!” 😂
  • Adam Driver’s chest (me)
  • the big light sabre dust up
  • poignant bits towards the end re Carrie Fisher
  • real life older women (with wrinkles!) on film in control rooms, as pilots etc
  • Rey moving rocks.

Stuff that made me grind my teeth:

  • Poe’s cocky Lord Flasheart schtick
  • Admiral Purple-rinse in cocktail party garb, not her uniform. She looked like a blow-in from a Panem scene (Hunger Games)
  • “dropping bombs” in zero G ffs! 🙄
  • the bug eyed hamsters - shameless soft toy merchandising crow-barred in
  • outrageous dissing of a female leader (Admiral) - makes me think Poe is a sexist twat
  • Hamill on autopilot
  • “Ready Brek Yoda” scene
  • pointless bloody casino wild goose chase (though good dig at Monaco/Monte Carlo type places & arms traders)
  • Luke Skywalker milking that CGI alien (think of the hours that went into programming all of that!)
  • the pointless housekeeping aliens on Skywalker Island
  • the weird mirror scene with Rey
  • the bit with all the racers on white/red planet
  • Not enough John Boyega, as he’s a decent actor.

If Rey goes all gooey eyed over Poe in the next film, I’ll be willing Kylo Ren on to run her through with a lightsaber. He could could not have been more of a dick in this film if he’d tried.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 17/12/2017 20:25

“dropping bombs” in zero G ffs!

That wound me up too. Also the guns on the space ship having a finite reach.

Dozer · 17/12/2017 21:57

Urgh yes, could’ve done without luke milking the mammal!

Perhaps it was to show that he was to some extent fending for himself and not being waited on by the “housekeeper” descendents of Toad of Toad Hall.

ButchyRestingFace · 17/12/2017 22:03

Urgh yes, could’ve done without luke milking the mammal!

I could have done without Luke Kevin the Teenager Skywalker and his petulance full stop.

Also, he seems to have shrunk since the first franchise.

At this rate, he’ll be the size of Yoda in the next movie with all that’s wanting being a dash of green paint and some ”Stop crying you will. Kill Kylo Ren you will. Try to stop fancying him you must” inspirational pep talks aimed at Rey.

scrabble1 · 17/12/2017 22:36

I need a golden dice keyring ......

Properly laughed at that Butchy Grin

Gold dice would make a brilliant stocking filler for fans scrabble1
