Well, that's two hours of my life I'll never get back- disappointing films you've seen?

Last night I snuggled down in clean PJs with popcorn and wine to watch the much-hyped "Girl on a Train". I noticed it was on Amazon Prime yesterday morning as was looking forward all day to watching it.

Well, what a completely bloody waste of time that was.

It was absolute horse shit and I genuinely went to bed feeling a bit deflated.

What disappointing films have you seen that you wish you hadn't bothered with?

Titanic - DM assured me I would love it and after she died, I watched it on TV. They could have done the whole thing in 20 minutes and made it interesting. I got a good bit of my book read during it.

Saving Private Ryan - XH took me to see this for our anniversary... I didn't care if they didn't save him. Even Tom Hanks couldn't save this film!

The Star Wars movies with the ghastly Jar Jar Binks - luckily DD2 spewed during the second one so I had to take her home - oh dear, how sad, never mind.

I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that stick in my mind.

Manchester By The Sea - utter drivel.

The Beguiled - I thought I couldn't do worse than Manchester By The Sea, I was wrong!

GiGiraffe · 07/08/2017 16:50

Lord of the Rings - had a lovely sleep though Blush

littlemissneela · 07/08/2017 16:51

I really liked RIPD (I also thought it was called Rest In Peace Department). We thought it was really funny, and a bit different.

I loved Mama Mia. Saw it in the cinema with my ED and it was great fun. It is screechy, and a bit cringy, but I think of how I felt when I watched it with her.

ElizabethThornton · 07/08/2017 16:51

Why has no one mentioned Les Mis with Russell Crowe?? The man can't sing a note and had to speak all the songs. A potentially goos film totally ruined!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 07/08/2017 16:52

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find
Them

2hrs and 13min of utter tedious boredom.
I painfully remember how long the film was as after 5 minutes I had to look it up how long I would have to suffer (yes I know I shouldn't be looking at my phone at the cinema but there has to be exceptions) it was painful

Titanic we were just about to leave when it got better and they hit the iceberg

I love Bridesmaids and Bridges of Madison County but agree the book is rubbish

I wouldn't watch Eat Pray Love I suffered through much of the book I fear the film would make me violent I can only take so much smugness

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 07/08/2017 16:53

Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy
Clockwork Orange
La la land
Music & lyrics
The holiday.

All bloody awful. Fell asleep during TTSS.

Better casting than Gerard Butler as the Phantom - a fit bloke who can't sing as the tortured disfigured musical genius with an enchanting voice?

But I agree Russell Crowe was awful, I also thought Anne Hathaway massively overacted and did not have a strong enough voice. Samantha Barks was fab though.

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/08/2017 17:05

Watchmen - it started so well, then descended into interminable plot explaination for what felt like five hours.

My DH commented, after watching under the skin, 'you know it's a dull film when you are actively getting bored of seeing Scarlett johannsen naked' Grin

TheNaze73 · 07/08/2017 17:07

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle

Utter cack

n0ne · 07/08/2017 17:11

Doctor Strange. Me and DH love Marvel films/series and all that geeky sci fi/fantasy stuff, and are fans of Cumberbatch, Swinton and Ejiofor usually, but it was such a pile of crap. Sorely disappointed.

GeillisTheWitch · 07/08/2017 17:24

The Fault in Our Stars was absolute boring drivel and I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters in it.

bagelbaby · 07/08/2017 17:34

La La Land aka the emperor's new clothes

RiverTam · 07/08/2017 17:46

Oh, we were pleasantly surprised with Doctor Strange, I bought it purely in the basis of Benedict Cumberbatch but both me and DH really enjoyed it.

marcopront · 07/08/2017 17:48

Agree about the English Patient and Manchester by the sea - what was the plot?

I am amazed no one has mentioned Sponge Bob the movie - I fell asleep. Again I'm not sure what the plot was.

annandale · 07/08/2017 18:04

LOTR. I am sure it's a huge achievement to have filmed it but it would be an achievement to sing Ode to Joy on a kazoo and I don't want to experience that either. Like others, slept well though.

Onetwothreeoops · 07/08/2017 18:07

I can't believe no one has mentioned Chappie yet. Utter drivel with totally unengaging characters.

GinnyWreckin · 07/08/2017 18:22

I am a Tolkien / middle earth fan and have even read the Silmarillion, .
The fan boy flicks of the super sizing Jackson were very like the parson's egg. Good in parts, (the scenery) but too long and deviated from the books too much. Frodo and Sam made some not very interesting detours. Lol at "we shouldn't even be here". Yes, indeed.
Faramir butchered, and helms deep half a movie!!! Bum bone numbing. It was about three pages in the book, and rightfully so.

Arwen looked like she should be in a timotei ad or a Vicks decongestant ad.
You could practically hear Jackson panting sweatily at the casting. So obviously a fan boy idea- she was truly awful!

And the massive gold statue of the dwarf idol in the hobbit? Wtf?

Whenever I need a laugh I put them on, they're so bad! So I suppose they are entertaining, but not in the way intended, ha!

I saw 'up in the air' recently, and liked it. Clooney's quite good when he's not being a member of the Hollywood prat pack. I liked the American too.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 07/08/2017 18:25

Onetwothree - Chappie, otherwise known as Die Antwoord: The Documentary Grin

KERALA1 · 07/08/2017 18:42

Glad to hear Manchester by the sea is drivel dh suggested but I am boycotting it due to that affleck man being a serial sexual harasser am sure my not seeing it will really upset him Grin but still

HazelBite · 07/08/2017 18:45

I watched Frozen yesterday, I wanted to know what the fuss was all about, I am still left wondering what all the fuss is about.
By far one of Disney's worst

Kpo58 · 07/08/2017 18:45

Big Momma's House. Nothing can save this film.

squoosh · 07/08/2017 18:46

Oh yes Casey Affleck is a complete turn off isn't he? I even resent him being in Good Will Hunting since I found out he's paid various women off.

AlletrixLeStrange · 07/08/2017 18:56

I actually fell asleep in the cinema watching Guardians of the Galaxy so I can only confirm the first half was boring.

LucilleBluth · 07/08/2017 19:01

Did the rather beautiful Justin Theroux not save Girl on the Train op.

There's more dross than not nowadays I think, nearly everything disappoints. The lates piece of crap I watched at DHs behest was 'John Wick 2'...even the lovely Keanu couldn't rescue it. Give me 'Grumpy Cats Worst Christmas' any day.
