Last night I snuggled down in clean PJs with popcorn and wine to watch the much-hyped "Girl on a Train". I noticed it was on Amazon Prime yesterday morning as was looking forward all day to watching it.

Well, what a completely bloody waste of time that was.

It was absolute horse shit and I genuinely went to bed feeling a bit deflated.

What disappointing films have you seen that you wish you hadn't bothered with?

OP posts:
Loyly · 07/08/2017 15:30

Colossal starring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis.

It's the worst film I've ever seen.

RiverTam · 07/08/2017 15:31

Well, I think PJ, Fran Walsh and Phillippa M (producer) are all real Tolkien boffins, I don't think you should underrate their depth of knowledge of Middle Earth. I wonder how much Warner pushed stuff in to him? I wish Giuellmo del Toro had got to make The Hobbit.

Got to disagree about Helm's Deep, awesome battle!

reek · 07/08/2017 15:34

Magnolia. Oscar-nominated. All star cast. Massive pile of pretentious shit!

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 07/08/2017 15:35

The film remake of Starsky and Hutch. Bought it on DVD, DH and I gave up and switched it off after about 20 minutes. Awful.

Superbad. Maybe I'm missing something, because I know people rave about it, but I hated it.

Under the Skin - renamed in our household as An American Tourist Lost In Scotland.

Any and all of the LOTR trilogy. Overlong, overblown, and NOTHING EVER BLOODY HAPPENS!! I fell asleep. Every time.

Whathaveilost · 07/08/2017 15:36

45 years, the Tom Courtney and Charlotte Rampling one. Over hyped and boring.
Black Swan. My all time hated film.
Wonderful life, in fact anything with James Stewart and his wooden acting playing the same type of angst character over and over again!

Owl1011 · 07/08/2017 15:36

OP fair play to you for watching Girl on a Train until the end...I turned it off after 10 minutes!

squoosh · 07/08/2017 15:39

Magnolia. Oscar-nominated. All star cast. Massive pile of pretentious shit!

Oscar best picture films are generally ponderous self indulgent nonsense. I haven't seen Manchester by the Sea but I feel confident in saying it's twaddle.

I'd love a comedy to win Best Picture!

Crinkle77 · 07/08/2017 15:43

American Beauty was also incredibly boring.

DrDreReturns · 07/08/2017 15:48

Me too squoosh. As soon as I saw they were making three films out of the Hobbit I decided not to watch it. It could easily have been done in one film imo. The lotr films were all too long imo.

implantsandaDyson · 07/08/2017 15:49

I didn't really like Lion I found it curiously dull, it bored me a bit, not the story but the film. But I loved Manchester by the Sea, so what do I know Grin But Magnolia- Jesus it was pretentious cack, I'm not immune to a touch of pretension but that was just nonsense from start to finish.

ShatnersWig · 07/08/2017 15:55

It's horses for courses. I totally agree about The Hobbit (haven't seen parts two or three) and eeking out something that could have been done in one film. Whereas Lord of the Rings I much prefer the extended DVD versions than the cinema ones. I can understand why some people don't or thought they went on a bit, but to write off Peter Jackson as a bad director ginny staggers me.

AnneGrommit · 07/08/2017 15:56

Saving Private Ryan - typical schmaltzy Hollywood treatment of war which of course only the Americans fought in with Tom Hanks emoting all over the fucking shop while diddling his little peemus with dreams about the Oscars. I really hate it.

Wolf Creek, especially when morons gasp wide eyed about this derivative lazy pos that it's a true story.

AnneGrommit · 07/08/2017 15:57

(It isn't. You plums.)

RiverTam · 07/08/2017 15:58

Shatners I always get annoyed of any of the LOTR films pop up on TV and they're never the extended edition - sacrilege!

Orangebird69 · 07/08/2017 16:10

Mama Mia. Mugged of 2 hours of my life.

KERALA1 · 07/08/2017 16:19

Loved bridesmaids hilarious and la la land two of my favourite all time films so not with you there pps.

My worst tinker tailor soldier spy lots of grey men talking. One of the dullest two hours of my life.

Also the royal tenambaum.. Utter self satisfied "aren't we quirky" wank. The guardian said it was marvellous we usually agree - not this time both hated it very nearly left cinema.

ALemonyPea · 07/08/2017 16:20

Mama Mia was utter crap. DH and I kept watching it in the hope it got better. It didn't.

The Emoji movie, watched it at the weekend with DC. Its like one of those dodgy DVDs you get at Poundland that's a rip off of a blockbuster movie, this one being Wreck It Ralph. Surprised Disney aren't suing them.

QuizteamBleakley · 07/08/2017 16:21

Beauty & The Beast = wank
Trainspotting 2 - steaming jobby
Logan = I'd rather put Wolverine's claws in my eyes than watch that again
Batman -vs- Superman = double shite
Viktor (starring curly wurly Liz Hurley & Gerard Depardieu) = like watching someone who is watching someone else watching paint dry. Fucking dreadful. If there is a hell, that will be on the big screen.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 07/08/2017 16:29

The Happening. Shite shite shite and boring. Literally nothing happens. I felt like asking for a refund!

KERALA1 · 07/08/2017 16:31

Aww come on re mamma Mia - surely po faced not to like it. It's for kids, the scenery is lovely and abba songs wash over you pleasantly.

It's like the terrible reviews in the guardian etc of the remade Annie film. Yes you too cool for school hipster reviewers obviously easy to sneer but our primary age girls loved it and we both quite enjoyed too especially the fancy flat and Cameron Diaz.

Girl on the train is a moderate thriller agree not worth the hype but not terrible either.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 07/08/2017 16:33

The book is excellent OP and I was disappointed with the film too.

La La Land was so dull. They meet and go out. Nothing else happens. I can only imagine the head honchos of these fancy award do's were heavily bribed to let that crap film win so many awards above the incredibly moving and genius Lion with Dec Patel.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 07/08/2017 16:35

*Dev Patel Blush

squoosh · 07/08/2017 16:35

I hope Girl on a Train would be like those grippy thrillers of the 1980s like Presumed Innocent or Frantic. Love a bit of 1980s Harrison Ford!

Birdsgottaf1y · 07/08/2017 16:38

The last one was the remake of Poltergeist, it shouldn't have been allowed to link itself with the original film. They should all feel ashamed of themselves.

It's made me fear the new IT and Jeepers Creepers 3, both of which I wanted to see at the Cinema.

BrieAndChilli · 07/08/2017 16:42

The other month while up in the early hours of the morning icing DDs birthday cake I ended up watching Sausage Party. It was absolutely shit. I think if I'd watched it at the cinema i would have asked for my money back
