Just love a musical. DD2 and I just back from Rhyl where we watched Joseph.

I have tickets booked for Cats, Rocky Horror, Joseph (again, somewhere else) and Chicago - which I've never seen yet.

And venue cymru has little shop of horrors. Excellent.

I spend more money on shows than on holidays I think.

Am taking the dds to London in Oct and am thinking of doing a musical there. What's on there that's fab?

Sunset Boulevard is my favourite, saw it again on Wednesday with Glenn Close, she was amazing.

Love Book of Mormon. Fed up of Les Mis as worked there and saw it everyday for years.

DD's (8) favourite is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and she also loves Bugsy Malone and The Sound of Music.
My favourites are Guys and dolls, The Sound of Music, Cats and West Side Story.

Priscilla queen of the desert- very rude but fab.
Loved we will rock you, but not on any more.

Chicago was my least favourite out of everything I've seen.

I love pretty much all musicals with thr exception of jukebox ones that I'm not as keen on. There are a few childhood ones that didn't stand up to rewatching as an adult even though I still love the music. For instance I spent most of Cats thinking that the creative team may well have been high when they staged it. Still adore the music though.

I've not seen any West End productions or big touring productions, but I was brought up on musicals - soundtracks, films, and local amateur productions. I don't know if I have a favourite - maybe Sound of Music, but I have never seen it on stage. I still love the musicals my parents introduced me to - Showboat, Sound of Music, West Side Story, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Oliver, Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, The King and I, Kiss Me Kate, Anything Goes. I have a special affection for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, as Willie Gilbert's daughter is a friend and I got to hold the Tony he won. Of the more modern musicals, I enjoyed Les Mis more than I expected to; Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph. (I took part in productions of the latter two.) Also Chess. When I was back in the UK in the spring, we saw a local amateur production of Hot Mikado. It was very clever and very well done - and reminded me of how much I also enjoy Gilbert and Sullivan.

DD2 in particular loves musicals - she has seen big productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and We Will Rock You and has tons of DVDs and soundtracks.

Wicked and Evita are my faves!

Jesus Christ Superstar is my all time favourite, have seen loads of versions and have all the films. Loved Tim Minchen as Judas.

Ghost was amazing, I uncontrollably sobbed throughout which was a tad embarrassing. I know the film so well I even cried in anticipation. I have seen it twice and would go again. Special effects are brilliant.

Others I like;

Miss Saigon
Les Mis
Fiddler on the Roof
South Pacific
Phantom of the Opera
Billy Elliott

Oh there are just too many to name. There are not many I don't like or haven't seen.

Aspects of Love is fantastic music but the show is unusual although seeing David Essex and Michael Praed in it was amazing.

Never really fancied Wicked at all. Not sure why really.

Oh and West Side Story is one of my favourites too, can watch it over and over again.

DD lives for musicals atm these are her favs Lion King, Les Mis, & Chicago followed by WSS, Hamilton & Kinky Boots

She has seen loads but is now concentrating on the ones she can be in - Once was such a disappointment as she doesn't play any of the relevant instruments & Sound of Music is just disappointing for a casting point of view

Dream Girl, Thriller, The Bodyguard seem good prospects with Lion King as her firm fav with the idea of working her way up to Nala Wink Hamilton might be over here by the time she graduates

Haven't read all the thread yet but we go to am-dram as well as proper shows as they are often excellent

Don't think anyone's' mentioned Mamma Mia - the stage version is fab, far better than the film.

I also love:
Blood Brothers (seen more times than I can remember)
Chicago
Priscilla Queen of the Desert

Another Sondheim worshipper here.

All time favourite is Sunday in the Park with George. Saw Gypsy in Chichester with Imelda. Into the Woods I adore.

I'm currently rehearsing Sweeney Todd (playing MrsL) but sadly it's the play not the musical. Though we can't help humming at least Grin

I've seen Les Mis countless times, fell asleep during Wicked, would love to see BOM and the icing on the cake is that I'm going to see Bernadette Peters in June .

You can keep your Patti Lapone's of the world Wink

Forgot In the Heights she could do that one - but she probably won't be good enough for Cats Sad

I love Les Miserables and have seen it live (but not the film yet).

My favourite ever musical was at the Everyman in Liverpool in the seventies. I saw it a few times - John, Paul, George, Ringo and Bert.
Barbara Dickson was outside the theatre busking - the first time I didn't know who she was or that she was part of the show.

I used to be a musical theatre actress in my yoof. I've been in a shitload of shows and watched a shitload more.

These days I mostly go to the theatre with my 7y/o daughter, so current fave is probably matilda. I saw Cats 3 times on it's recent run at the Palladium: bloody amazing, I don't think people generally appreciate how fucking hard it is to dance like that and then sing!

All time faves include: Gypsy (HOW amazing was Imelda Staunton in that?Wow!) , Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon (but not Les Mis. Too dreary), Phantom, City of Angels and anything Sondheim.

Favourite is probably Avenue Q, seen it twice now and its just as funny second time around.
Close second is Wicked, again seen it twice, brilliant both times.
Wasn't too impressed with Joseph.
Loved watching Rent and Chicago (not live though sadly)

Les Mis. My dd wants to be Gavroche. She saw it on her 7th birthday. Both she and her 4yo brother can sing the whole soundtrack.

I liked Matilda too and have a soft spot for Starlight Express.
