Ooooo, I love a musical, I do. Which one is your favourite?

Just love a musical. DD2 and I just back from Rhyl where we watched Joseph.

I have tickets booked for Cats, Rocky Horror, Joseph (again, somewhere else) and Chicago - which I've never seen yet.

Esmesbees - Great taste!
A fellow Sondheim fan! Merrily we roll along is a masterpiece - just love it.

CharleyDavidson · 08/04/2016 23:53

Seeing a musical live is by far and away better than watching the DVD. With the DVD you have to watch where the director wanted you to watch. When live you can watch any bit of the stage you like. I've watched some things several times and never get bored as you watch and notice different things on different viewings.

Shameful confession... DD and I walked out of Joseph this afternoon, saw how badly it was pissing down, didn't fancy driving the A55 in pouring rain, so went back in, bought tickets and watched it again. :) :) DD thought it was hilarious that we did that.

She's well into my love of musicals. DD1, however, has declared herself bored by all musicals and won't watch any, apart from the rock and roll panto at our local theatre. Which, to be fair, is always amazingly professional and top quality (with no z list celebs in it either.)

I was meant to go to see Pricilla at the start of the year buf i wasnt well and missed it

Gooseysgirl · 08/04/2016 23:56

Was blown away by Phantom of the Opera when I saw it on stage in London, also loved Porgy & Bess at the Savoy a few years ago. Priscilla was enormous fun, as was The Producers. Have seen and enjoyed Wicked several times. Love Evita, probably the sound track I listen to most. Going to Sunset Boulevard this week in London, v excited!

cathyandclaire · 08/04/2016 23:57

EsmesBees you are clearly a Sondheim fan like me, you've just mentioned all my favourites.
Others I've loved include Book of Mormon, Mary Poppins, West Side Story and Cabaret.

EBearhug · 09/04/2016 00:25

Guys and Dolls
Oliver!
Sound of Music (I suspect my sister, our cousin and I drove our grandparents mad that summer we first saw it - 1981, with the royal wedding.)
Joseph
Les Mis
Rocky Horror
Grease
Jesus Christ Superstar
Godspell
Oklahoma!

I thought We Will Rock You was appalling, and I'm a massive Queen fan.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 09/04/2016 00:30

Godspell is truly awful.
Jesus christ superstar is actual genius.

OpiesOldLady · 09/04/2016 00:30

Rocky Horror Show.

Absolutely adore it. Can't count the number of times I've seen it live including three times so far on this current tour!

Wanderingwondering · 09/04/2016 00:35

Love les mis. I remember being blown away the first time I saw it and clapping so hard!
Lion king also stunning
Joseph is fun and I enjoyed wicked more than I thought I would but I would see Les mis or the lion king again over anything else

Tate15 · 09/04/2016 00:36

Hair
Little shop of horrors
Jesus Christ superstar
Hello Dolly
Caberet
West side story
Tommy

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/04/2016 00:47

Carousel I think, I've seen a couple of versions on stage and loved it. In fact, pretty much all of Rogers and Hammerstein.

And (possibly destroying my musical credentials here!) I really loved Dreamboats and Petticoats.

I liked Wicked - I had no idea of the songs or storyline before I went, so it played out brilliantly for me. Blood Brothers didn't really do it for me though.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/04/2016 00:49

Oh, I forgot - The Producers was absolutely brilliant.

And Top Hat - I saw that on its pre-London tour and then the tour last year when it had closed on the West End Smile

OodleDoodleBug · 09/04/2016 00:55

Oooh I love a good musical.

Les Mis, Phantom, Joseph, Hairspray, Bugsy Malone, Little Shop of Horrors.

Oh, Avenue Q for highly inappropriate giggling Blush

Fauchelevent · 09/04/2016 01:00

My username should be a giveaway to my favourite (Les Mis). Just the first few chords and my heart is happy. I also love it in Spanish! Los Miserables is incredible.

Matilda, Newsies and Memphis are current faves, with Wicked, Rent, Funny Girl, Legally Blonde and Phantom being long term loves. Oh and Anything Goes!

Fauchelevent · 09/04/2016 01:04

That being said I really won't watch the movie, there are some really moving moments but vocally 10AC is so much better and on youtube so when I need a fix I just wath that. Philip Quast, Colm Wilkinson... And the Michael Ball lick on "my world when she's not there" just amazing

Also yes I forgot Book of Mormon! I'm looking forward to Hamilton coming to the UK. Very popular atm so we shall see.

Floralnomad · 09/04/2016 01:05

I'm not a fan of musicals but I've taken dd to a few and the only one I've enjoyed is Legally Blonde and the worst was Wicked ( London ) if I could have left at the interval I would happily have done so .

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/04/2016 01:14

Ooooh, West Side Story is my face, but I also like
Les Mis
Fiddler on the Roof
Showboat
Carousel
Porgy and Bess
The King and I
South Pacific

Don't really like modern ones

SunsofAlanKey · 09/04/2016 02:47

Starlight Express - brilliant, saw when I was 11, sat behind Richard Stilgoe who wrote the lyrics and he signed my programme!

The Book of Mormon, funny, irreverent, joyful and just brilliant!

TheFlyingFauxPas · 09/04/2016 03:00

We've got tickets to see Jesus Christ superstar in Lincoln cathedral in the summer. Can't wait,😊 Missed it last year. Its meant to be really something 😊

Drycleanonly7 · 09/04/2016 06:11

Calamity Jane, Mack and Mabel and then Gypsy in that order!

Fiderer · 09/04/2016 06:37

I love the old ones. The Music Man. My children get told "Think the Minuet in G" and "Watch your phraseology!" The boys now also say "Thister thister" when talking about their sister.

Also fond of saying "Come on Dover" when hurrying them up. Sometimes followed by "Move your bloomin' arse" - from My Fair Lady.

And pretty much anything with Howard Keel.

CaptainAnkles · 09/04/2016 06:50

Hairspray
Rocky Horror
Wicked
Rock of Ages

Badders123 · 09/04/2016 06:56
