Ooooo, I love a musical, I do. Which one is your favourite?

Just love a musical. DD2 and I just back from Rhyl where we watched Joseph.

I have tickets booked for Cats, Rocky Horror, Joseph (again, somewhere else) and Chicago - which I've never seen yet.

Is there anyone on the thread (possibly from the Liverpool area) who knows the musical Her Benny?

Some lovely sings in that (dd played Nell & had to die at the end of Act 1)

Katymac · 09/04/2016 23:39

Well I do - but you know that Wink

DD loves the Slipper & the Rose (as do I)

Katymac · 09/04/2016 23:40

Know Her Benny I mean Wink

Balletgirlmum · 09/04/2016 23:48

I loved slipper & the rose but I must have been about 10 when I watched it.

Only1scoop · 09/04/2016 23:56

Phantom ....have seen it on Broadway ....in Vegas and in London 4 times Blush

TrionicLettuce · 09/04/2016 23:56

Definitely not the only one Petra!! DSis and I were obsessed with it when we were young. We used to re-enact 'Protocoligorically Correct" on our stairs Grin

Les Mis is my favourite musical. I love it, though I've sadly not yet had the chance to see it live. The best one I've ever seen live was The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes, one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Not technically musicals in the strictest sense but, seeing as a few have been mentioned upthread, I absolutely adore G&S. Totally impossible to pick a single favourite, I love them all.

Balletgirlmum · 10/04/2016 00:10

How could I forget Book of Mormon.

DS2 is autistic and obsessed with musicals... so we see everything we can.

His favourite is Blood Brothers (saw last month..3rd time)
Mine is Jesus Christ Superstar...(4 x) !! I will see it every time it tours.

Saw Les Mis 2 weeks ago in London..it's not my favourite but it blew me away on stage...amazing.

Cats...seen 5 times just for the dancing.

Cabaret... wasn't sure whether I'd enjoy it but it was brilliant.

LOVE Chicaco...

I can't think of many I haven't seen now, but those are my favourites. I NEED to see Fiddler on the Roof on stage...

Shakey15000 · 10/04/2016 09:28

katymac So exciting! Will there be guest singers do you think?

Katymac · 10/04/2016 09:45

I hadn't even thought about it - DD & I are just so excited - she really wants Unexpected Song and Capped Teeth & Caesar Salad!!

Are you Manchester or London like us?

Shakey15000 · 10/04/2016 09:56

Manchester Opera house. Yes, I'd like Unexpected Song as well. Also Not A Day Goes By and I guess she's now "of the age" where an "I'm still here" would be fitting.

If Mandy Patinkin rocks up I'll squeal. Likewise Stephen though I'd quite likely faint. Though you've got more chance of that than I and, that being the case, I shall ne'er converse with thee again Wink

PunkrockerGirl · 10/04/2016 09:59

Love Slipper and the Rose, such fabulous music.
Also, Guys & Dolls and Les Mis.
My all time favourite is the Sound of Music though Blush

CharleyDavidson · 10/04/2016 16:36

American Idiot is at the Empire in June. I'd not have given it a second's thought without this thread, so thanks for the recommendations.

Rent and Grease are my faves. We did les mis at school!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/04/2016 16:39

And Book of Mormon and Avenue Q for seeing them live at the theatre. Both an amazing night out!

AGreatBigWorld · 10/04/2016 16:45

HIGH SOCIETY .....
Grace, Bing, Frank and Louis in one film. Sublime!!!

bruffin · 10/04/2016 16:51

I forget about High Society. I went with DM and MIl to see the Regents Park open air production. It was lovely but the heavens opened 5 mins from the end so were given free tickets to see from the end. Ds was 8 or 9 at the time so took him and he loved it.

PiggyPlumPie · 10/04/2016 16:56

Oh have found my people!

Love Les Mis, Blood Brothers, Starlight, Phantom, Barnum, Lion King,

Actually the only one I wouldn't choose to see again is Cats, have seen it twice and enjoyed it but not enough to pay £££s again.

Aspects is Love was also a fave and Chicago and Chitty and Joseph and...

I just bloody love musicals!

AGreatBigWorld · 10/04/2016 17:13

I have now persuaded DP to watch HS with me! His first time (my umpteenth!!) Kevin Spacey did The Philadelphia Story at The Old Vic a few years ago and it was excellent!!!

CharleyDavidson · 10/04/2016 17:22

I feel the same way about Cats, Piggy. If it's local and not too ££ then I will go and enjoy it because of the talent and the songs. But I won't go too far to see it, or watch it too frequently.

If there's a run of something I like on then I'll book a couple of trips (depending on price), but Cats is a once in a while.

Bit shocked at the £££ of the shows in London. Most I've paid for a ticket in Liverpool etc is £70ish for excellent seats for Phantom, but that was a one-off. Usually I pay on average £35 for a ticket. I was just looking at booking Charlie and the Chocolate factory for me and the DDs in London in Oct (admittedly at half term) and was Shock at £105 per ticket. That's out of my league!

Shakey15000 · 10/04/2016 17:49

When in London and wanting to see a musical/play my recommendation is to either head straight to the theatre's box office about 15 minutes to curtain up and see if there's any reduced returns or buy the cheapest ticket, head to your seat, scan the seats, see what's empty, then 10 mins before curtain, whizz to foyer, look for who's in charge (normally wearing a headset and ask for a free upgrade Grin

That's worked for me a few times.

bruffin · 10/04/2016 17:50

Charley
I very rarely pay full price for West End tickets. £35 is usually max. Dd being 18 can sometimes get £5 tickets for shows like the Lion King, in the Heights , Bend it Like Beckham for her, unfortunately we are too old for those tickets.
She got us tickets for Wonder.Land at the National Theatre last month.

Livnatmum · 10/04/2016 18:09

Saw Book of Mormon for my birthday last week - LOVED IT, howled with laughter all the way through, very cleverly done, well acted and songs that I'm still singing now! I love musicals, Les Mis, Joseph, Miss Saigon ......

CharleyDavidson · 13/04/2016 22:49

Ghost is booked. :)

So now I can look forward, in the coming year, to watching Joseph, Cats, Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret and Ghost.

Still dithering over Blood Brothers and American Idiot. There's only so much in my bank account!
